Together, we will continue to nurture creativity and empower the next generation of artists, leaders, and changemakers.
Dear Friends,
As we reflect on the achievements and milestones of the 2023-2024 school year, it is with immense pride and gratitude that I present this Annual Report on behalf of the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) Foundation. The past year was a testament to the resilience, creativity, and dedication of our students, faculty, staff, and supporters. Together, we navigated challenges, explored new initiatives, and continued to uphold our commitment to excellence in arts and academic education. I know without a doubt that the experiences our students have at OCSA – artistically, academically, and socially – will guide them as they embark on their journeys in higher education and their careers. Thank you for being a part of the OCSA magic!
Throughout this report, you will discover the profound impact of your generosity and advocacy. Your contributions empowered us to enhance our programs, provide invaluable opportunities for artistic growth and exploration, and expand access to arts education throughout the community. From our annual campaigns, special events, community outreach efforts, and everything in between – each page of this report tells a story of achievement made possible by your unwavering support.
Looking ahead, we are excited to build upon this momentum and embrace new opportunities to enrich the lives of our students and communities through the transformative power of the arts. Together, we will continue to nurture creativity and empower the next generation of artists, leaders, and changemakers. Thank you for being an integral part of our OCSA family and for your commitment to the success of our school and students.
With gratitude and enthusiasm,
Teren Shaffer President & CEO
Orange County School of the Arts
Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA), a public charter school located in the heart of Santa Ana, California, provides a six-year comprehensive academic and arts conservatory program to students in grades 7-12. Established in 1987, OCSA is one of the premier arts schools in the nation, where aspiring young artists have the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 17 preprofessional arts conservatories. OCSA provides a rigorous collegepreparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars. For nearly four decades, the school has impacted thousands of students, molding generations of creative thinkers, leaders, artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
OCSA has received honors and recognition for innovation and excellence in both arts and academic education. Since its founding in 1987, the charter school has been recognized with:
• Exemplary School (Arts Schools Network, 2023-2028)

Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) is a donationdependent public charter school. No student is offered or denied admission based upon their family’s financial capacity. While the State of California provides funding for the academic instructional program offered at OCSA, approximately $10 million must be raised on an annual basis to fund the arts conservatory programs.
The OCSA Foundation is dedicated to the financial support of the school’s arts programs, relying on the generosity of individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors. The OCSA Foundation is responsible for leading annual fundraising campaigns, school expansion efforts, special events, and community outreach initiatives, helping to provide the transformational OCSA experience for all students.
Your support helps enrich the lives of our students and communities through the transformative power of the arts.

The Hearts for the Arts campaign provides additional support for arts conservatory needs beyond annual budgets, by purchasing special equipment and supplies, taking student artists on field trips to professional arts venues, and presenting student performances. Support helps OCSA students compete in and perform at regional, statewide, and national festivals in the theatre, culinary, and music fields, among others. It also enables student groups to travel internationally for performances at the invitation of arts presenters.

OCSA’s new Serenity Center serves as a dedicated wellness space for all students, promoting mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and stress management. This is a welcome addition to our campus, and we would like to extend our utmost appreciation to the Samueli Foundation for helping to make this vision a reality, as well as Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for helping to provide the support and resources needed to prioritize the holistic wellbeing of our students.
The new and improved Scott & Charlotte Egan Studio Theatre features upgraded sound and lighting equipment and triple the capacity of the previous space. This theatre renovation has made a transformational difference in the performance experience for many of our students!
To better serve the needs of our Production & Design (PD) Conservatory students, the shop was relocated and expanded. This improved space allows our PD students to provide behind-the-scenes support to OCSA’s more than 200 annual performances.
