This school year marks an exceptional milestone, as OCSA has now resided and flourished in the city of Santa Ana for 25 years! Over the past quarter of a century, the OCSA campus in Santa Ana has seen countless performances and served as the launching pad for thousands of dreams. Our campus has also provided a home away from home for students (and staff!) from Santa Ana and beyond. I cannot wait to see how our legacy within Santa Ana continues to grow and evolve.
As we open yet another exciting chapter in the history of the school, I would like to give a warm welcome to our new Chief Operations Officer, Dr. Gregory Endelman. Not only does he bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, but he is also a great and caring human being who is ready to do what it takes to help our school be the best it can be for our students and staff.
I am looking forward to partnering with Dr. Endelman, along with our esteemed administrators, faculty, and staff, to take OCSA into this next chapter!

Established in 1987, the nationally recognized Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) offers a dynamic school culture that enables students to flourish as artists and scholars. The school currently serves a diverse student body of approximately 2,300 students in grades 7-12 from more than 100 cities throughout Southern California.
In addition to offering a challenging college-preparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars, OCSA provides aspiring young artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 17 arts conservatories. Each year, more than 200 concerts, recitals, staged performances, and exhibitions are presented at a variety of venues in Orange County and throughout the world, providing students with the unique experience of entertaining and inspiring thousands of audience members.
OCSA is a donation-dependent public charter school; no student is offered or denied admission based on financial capacity. The school’s rigorous academic education coupled with advanced arts training has impacted many students, molding generations of creative thinkers, leaders, artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF TONIGHT’S MUSICAL
“Nobody but me is going to put it right for me, nobody but me is going to change my story.” - Matilda Wormwood
Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who stands up for what’s right and refuses to be limited by her circumstances. From the moment I began this journey, I was intrigued by the idea of bringing Matilda’s inner world to life on stage. This led to the creation of Matilda’s “mind” as an ensemble, where each actor embodies a unique part of her—willpower, creativity, emotion, imagination, intellect, and intuition. Together, these roles give voice to the internal forces that guide her. Throughout rehearsals, we found special moments where Matilda’s mind supports her, urges her to take a stand, makes bold choices, and ignites the magic. Too often, young people—especially young girls—are overlooked or underestimated, so it fills me with pride to see Matilda’s story unfold with the full support of her mind(s) on stage. She shows us the power of embracing who you are, of loving to learn, and of daring to be different. May we all be inspired to be a bit more like Matilda.
This production includes 45 talented students from 7th to 12th grade who have put their hearts into every part of this process. Together, they’ve balanced late-night rehearsals, exams, college applications, and the many demands of growing up. It’s been a joy to see them come together, support one another, and bring this story to life. My hope, as you watch, is that you not only feel inspired and in awe of Matilda’s magic, but also in the magic that is all 45 of these young people on stage. I am so grateful I get to spend my days watching these kids and their magic.

ELISE ARNDT(Director)
Elise Arndt (Director) is a San Clemente, CA native and holds a BA in Musical Theatre from American University. She is a passionate performer, educator, and yogi. She spent many years living in New York City continuing her training with the best in the business while developing her parallel career in teaching. She has performed in theatres regionally, toured, worked off Broadway, performed in countless cabarets and has credits in the TV, Film, and Commercial space. Her biggest artistic achievement to date has been the creation of her award winning one woman show “Sing, Bibi, Sing!” which she wrote and starred in that chronicles the life of her grandma Bibi Osterwald who was an accomplished Broadway performer and Television actress. She continues to audition, work, and train across mediums which allows her to bring real-world experience to her teaching and her students. Elise is currently on faculty for Orange County school of the arts in their musical theatre department and a teaching artist for Segerstrom Center For The Arts where she serves historically underserved communities bringing the arts to the most vulnerable. MADDIE BEANNE YOUNG (Choreographer)
Maddie BeAnne Young (Choreographer) is a passionate choreographer with a BFA in Musical Theater from the Hartt School. For the past 12 years, she has dedicated herself to teaching, with the goal of inspiring countless students with vibrant choreography and infectious enthusiasm. Maddie currently teaches at Orange County School of the Performing Arts, in both Integrated Arts and the Musical Theater Conservatory, as well as the Dance Electives Program. Additionally, she serves as the Dance Coordinator at Yorba Linda Spotlight Theater Company, where she influences the next generation of performers. Maddie aspires to continue her devotion to entertaining through dance and help all performers experience joy.
CHRISTOPHER W. SMITH (Music Director)
currently serves as the resident music director of the Musical Theatre Conservatory where he has taught for almost a decade and music directed many productions including: Bright Star, The Prom, SideShow, Something Rotten, Broadway and the Bard, Les Miserables, Now. Hear. This., Gypsy, Evita, 9 to 5, As You Like It, Footloose, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Jasper in Deadland and Xanadu. Christopher holds an MFA from UC Irvine and has worked as a music director, pianist, vocal coach, and producer throughout Southern California and has had the privilege of working with many talented artists, some of which include: Susan Egan, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Jessica Vosk, Jared Gertner, Terron Brooks, Jessica Lea Patty, Scott Barnhardt and Krysta Rodriguez. A few other highlights: Sweeney Todd (A Noise Within), Disenchanted (Laguna Playhouse), Westside Story (McCoy/Rigby), Les Miserables, 9 to 5 (Musical Theatre West) and Chicago (No Square Theatre & Yorba Linda Spotlight).
Christopher currently resides in Mission Viejo with his wonderful wife Joy, and two beautiful children, Grayson and Amelia.

About the Musical Theatre Conservatory
CONSERVATORY OVERVIEW
The Musical Theatre Conservatory offers a rigorous, supportive, and comprehensive course of study for students who are passionate about the art of storytelling through song, dance, and text performance. In each year of study, students concentrate on musical theatre repertoire, vocal technique, and acting skills. Middle school students experience a broad-based introduction to acting, musical theatre, and performance technique in preparation for the high school program. High school students receive an innovative arts education similar to that of a collegiate arts program, supported by a comprehensive curriculum that balances performance, content creation, and technique. The conservatory places particular emphasis on developing healthy artistic habits, experimenting with styles of theatre, learning the history of the form, and the practical accumulation of effective audition and performance skills to prepare for college and beyond.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
The Musical Theatre Conservatory offers its students the unique opportunity to participate in Performing with the Pros, a pre-professional experience through which students audition to study and perform alongside a celebrated Broadway star. This annual event is the culmination of a threeweek artist-in-residence program, where the guest artist works with the students to develop a fully staged production. Students share the stage with Broadway legends and gain performance insights and critiques from industry professionals.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
As a performer, Mr. Ryan Miller studied with members of the SITI company, specifically J.Ed Araiza and Ellen Lauren, who cast him as Oberon in her tap dance-infused rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He also worked with Michael Hackett on an adaptation of Helen by Euripides, along with various local theatre companies. Locally, he has worked with the Torrance Theatre Company, Coeurage Theatre Company, Shakespeare Orange County, American Coast Theater Company, and Pacific Symphony.
Mr. Miller’s film and television credits include All Summer Long, Winesburg: Death, A Lady, When Pressed, and Sanity. He was part of the development and performance of the 2017 original play Paper Cranes. Mr. Miller is the coauthor of The Cordray Christmas Variety Hour, a new play that had its world premiere in 2022. Directing credits include Learned Ladies, Shaina Taub’s musical adaptation of As You Like It (2018 JRAY Award for Direction and Best Ensemble), Antigone, Pride and Prejudice, Charley’s Aunt, Peter and the Starcatcher, Spoon River Anthology, and Something Rotten.
Mr. Miller is the recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Acting Fellowship, as well as the Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme Award for Artistic Merit. An arts educator for more than 15 years, he was awarded the Outstanding Orange County Educator Award for his work at OCSA in 2018. Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Vanguard University and a Master of Fine Arts in theatre from UCLA.

Ongoing research and clinical trials are creating breakthroughs in cancers once thought insurmountable—and we are a leader in bringing these benefits from the lab to the bedside. Our specialists routinely use advanced genomic testing to identify the DNA alterations driving the growth of a patient’s tumor, allowing us to identify treatments and clinical trials that target those mutations. The Artist Scholar Sponsorship Program supports economically disadvantaged students who attend OCSA. Donations help to fund the arts conservatory portion of their school day and ensure they have access to the full OCSA experience, including yearbooks, technology, school supplies, and more.

The Master Artist Series supports high-profile visiting artists who create meaningful experiences for our student artists. WHAT IS KIWIN’S?
CNH KIWIN’S (California, Nevada, Haiwaii), similar to its KEY CLUB counterparts, is an student-led club that stretches among multiple schools, including OCSA. This club promotes a sense of community and allows students easy access to various COMMUNITY SERVICE events. Students can learn to strengthen skills such as LEADERSHIP, collaborating with others, and can learn the significance of supporting your community. This looks great on COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, especially since joining this club can open up opportunities for SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS, and NETWORKING.
