Voters Statewide Voice Opposition to Extreme Budget in Recall Districts All over Wisconsin, constituents rally against devastating budget being rammed through in “extraordinary session” in Madison MADISON – While much of the media attention surrounding opposition to the devastating budget proposal being debated in the legislature has naturally been focused on protests in Madison, the reality is that widespread grassroots opposition the terrible choices in the bill is happening all over the state – especially in the districts of state Senators facing recall for their blind support of Scott Walker’s extreme agenda. From La Crosse to Fond du Lac to Baraboo to Green Bay, citizens all over Wisconsin are making their voices heard in their local communities against a budget that threatens to irreversibly damage our state and runs counter to Wisconsin values. Those voices are growing especially loud in districts where state Senators are facing recall elections, and are beginning to get substantial media coverage. Here’s a sampling of the coverage statewide of yesterday’s events:

While most Senators continued to ignore the voters of their district, Robert Cowles lashed out at his constituents for peacefully assembling to make their voices heard, calling the rally “an effort to intimidate” and derided voters of his district as “outrageous” and “disruptive.” “The resounding message to state Senators set to pass an extreme budget that includes devastating cuts to public education, increased taxes on seniors and working families, and massive tax giveaways for out-of-state corporations and the wealthy is that this bill is out of touch with Wisconsin values, and it needs to be rejected,” said Kelly Steele, spokesman for We Are Wisconsin. “These Senators will either hear that message and vote the will of their constituents, or be held to account in August.”
