Media Advisory: Community Rallies to Hold Cowles Accountable for Bad Choices in Budget Concerned citizens to speak out against Cowles support for budget that places corporations and the rich over the most vulnerable in society WHAT: Protestors will line the street leading to Cowles’ office with signs highlighting the bad choices Cowles supports WHO: Green Bay Community members WHEN: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM WHERE: Webster Street in Allouez between St. Joseph St. and Beaupre St. GREEN BAY—After seeing the Joint Finance Committee author numerous corporate giveaways, while raising taxes on seniors and the working poor, local residents say they will not stand idly by waiting for Robert Cowles to rubberstamp a budget that makes terrible choices for Wisconsin’s future. In response, community members will meet at 11:30 AM along Webster Street leading to Cowles’ office to highlight some of the many bad choices that Cowles supports in this budget. Just a few of the extremely bad choices that Cowles supports in this budget include: - Raising taxes on seniors and working familes by almost $70 million - Cutting over $800 million dollars from public education - Ending FamilyCare enrollment, hurting seniors and the physically disabled - Taking local control of highway projects away from municipalities in an attempt to payback large campaign donors This extreme budget has continually drawn protests and faced harsh criticism for its priorities, which have remained largely unchanged despite opposition from hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites.
