Star Rating Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. Official BHA Rating The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

PLAY SMARTER
MEZZANOTTE has shown promise in both starts to date and she was a little poorly placed at Lingfield last time away from the favoured stand rail. She should be able to take another step forward here and will take the beating. Uncs hails from a yard that can do very little wrong with its juveniles at the moment and he warrants respect. Neat And Dandy is far from out of the equation either.

PLAY SMARTER
DESERT DREAM has gone close in his last two runs and he should be able to get his head in front here under a very promising apprentice rider. His yard had a winner earlier in the month and he makes most appeal. Key Look will be the biggest danger in her bid to follow up her Catterick win. Moretti could leave her below-par run at Leicester behind here and she has an each-way chance.

MOTAGALLY is favoured in a trappy sprint, as he was progressive last season and returned with a solid display at Haydock after missing the break. PLAY SMARTER
CRANE shaped well at Redcar back in April before disappointing last time. He had some mitigation though as was stuck towards the far side from his low draw. He is still lightly raced and could bounce back here. Kentucky Kitten really caught the eye last time and he may come on for that outing to take a hand. Kylie Rules is a C&D regular and she holds each-way claims.

PLAY SMARTER
LOVE YOUR WORK has yet to win for this yard but he’s been acquitting himself creditably. He should be going close off a mark of 49 in this company on his best form. Rock Warbler took a step back in the right direction last time and he could offer some each-way value. Clotherholme isn’t out of it either.
