Welcome to Carlisle Bell and Cumberland Plate Day, Last year’s Carlisle Bell and Cumberland Plate sadly was not run due to the pandemic so it is with great pride that I and the wonderful team hear at Carlisle Racecourse welcome you back this year. It has been a challenging year for everyone and we are thrilled that the popularity of this event means that we have an optimum crowd here today within the government restrictions. We ask that you all follow guidelines and respect each other while on site. We have hand sanitiser units at each door way on site and dotted around externally. We have two marquees up on site should you require shelter from the weather and we have bought in additional benches for you to sit. In order to consume your drink you must be seated, you can go to the bar to purchase your drink but please remain seated while consuming – this is a government restriction and we ask that you all do your best to support us in ensuring that you comply. We want to be able to continue welcoming crowds back to the racecourse. It looks set to be an exceptional card with some great local entries for both the Bell and the Plate. I would absolutely love to see The Navigator win the Cumberland Plate as I have a bit of a soft spot for him, and it’s always a good day when Dianne Sayer has a winner! The Eternal stakes was run at Haydock last summer as it is a pattern race, it was won by Under the Stars for James Tate. It looks set to be a very competitive renewal this year and has attracted the attention of Irish Raider Ken Condon. I would like to thank Stablemate by Agma and The British EBF for their support of today’s card along with the amazing Owners, Trainers, Stable Staff and Jockeys who continue to work so hard to ensure the continued success of this great sport.
