BOTHWELL CASTLE RACEDAY WEDNESDAY 16 JUNE 2021

WELCOME Welcome to Hamilton Park on what we expect to be a sunny, warm day and a perfect week for Royal Ascot too. With the continuation of restrictions around the country, more and more of us are wanting to make sure we can attend events whenever they are allowed, and we are proud to be able to put on racedays allowing 1,400 racegoers in a safe environment. At the time of writing, we are awaiting the First Minister’s update as to what is to be allowed from the end of the month. You can be sure we will aim to increase our offering and facilities again just as soon as we can. Thank you to all who have attended already this season and complied with the social distancing we have asked of you. It all helps enormously to demonstrate we can all enjoy horse racing in a safe environment and also keep all of us as safe as possible. Many thanks to the European Breeders Fund for their continued support throughout the season and to our media channel RacingTV, both of whom are sponsoring today’s card alongside our very own on-site hotel, the Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park, which I know many of you have been using and enjoying both on a raceday and throughout the rest of the month. Today I am pleased to tell you that once you have entered through the turnstiles to the racecourse, you can move freely between the hotel bar and the outdoor areas of the racecourse without having to leave the racecourse grounds; just show your electronic ticket to the stewards on the door. Probably the majority of you watched the football on Monday at Hampden. What a shame that after 23 years of pent up anticipation, the boys weren’t able to give us a win. Hopefully here today you can all pick the winners from this afternoon’s line ups instead. With this warm weather the team has been hard at work tending to the ground and keeping just enough water on it to maintain the optimum ground for today’s seven races. This afternoon’s feature race, the #Cleanstay at Hampton by Hilton Bothwell Castle Handicap at 3.50pm sees David O’Meara’s Celtic Empress aiming to make it two in a row, having won here last week from a field of nine. Keith Dalgleish’s Breguet Boy, will however be aiming to keep up its improved form having finished 5th at the start of the month here, then edged up to 2nd at Ayr a few days later. June is always a busy month for us and we are all looking forward to Saints & Sinners next Thursday evening and then a further afternoon’s racing on 29 June. I hope you can come and join us again, and remember to buy your tickets safely on-line while we still require to have all racegoers buying tickets in advance. Have a super day.

Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (A HAMILTON PARK 2YO SERIES QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a six furlong maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

THE SCOTTISH RACING SUPPORTING #RACINGWITHPRIDE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 65 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

Sixth Race

4.25p.m. THE RACINGUK.COM HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile one furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 60 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (55 wins from 445 runners, 12%) runs AYR EMPRESS and CLAY REGAZZONI Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (8 wins from 88 runners, 9%) runs TEMPER TRAP Weightwatcher: DANDY’S ANGEL won off a handicap mark of 64, her rating is now down 5lb to 59. Longest Traveller: ZENZERO trained by D O’Meara, Upper Helmsley, 208 miles.

HAMILTON PARK RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE will present a memento to the winning owner of this race. In addition, a cash prize will be presented to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out. Owners Prize Money. BETTING FORECAST: 3-1 Oh So Hot (IRE), 5-1 Dandy’s Angel (IRE),

7-1 Clay Regazzoni (GB), 8-1 Perfect Soldier (IRE), 10-1 Temper Trap (GB), Zenzero (IRE), 11-1 Loch Long (IRE), 18-1 Jungle Book (GER), 20-1 Ayr Empress (IRE), 66-1 Cole Noir (GB) RACE SUMMARY: OH SO HOT was denied by the barest of margins when runner-up at this course on her first outing for Adrian Nicholls and is worth a chance to go one better with the scope for further progress. Dandy’s Angel is well treated and shaped encouragingly last time, so might lay down the biggest challenge. Zenzero should relish the longer trip, so he’s also a player. 1-2-3: 1.OH SO HOT (IRE) 2.DANDY’S ANGEL (IRE) 3.ZENZERO (IRE)

STEWARDS NOTE:
