THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU
Hello and a big welcome back to Haydock Park for the Betfred Grand National Trial Day!
The team and I are all so excited to welcome you all back for what promises to be a great day of action – and our first fixture of 2023 after we sadly had to abandon back in January due to the bad weather
We are very proud to be the hosts of one of the very few recognised Grand National Trials in the country, and this race is sure to offer up a stern test of stamina and determination, something which Lord Du Mesnil relished when winning for Richard Hobson in 2021 Last year’s renewal was taken by track specialist, Bristol de Mai, who has won here at Haydock Park an incredible six times in the past and once again carries an entry for this year’s race Lining up alongside him will be Snow Leopardess, Fortescue and Fontaine Collonges to name just a few – so it promises to be a thrilling watch.
As you would expect for this time of year, spring clues can be found throughout the card and the Grade Two Betfred Rendlesham Hurdle regularly auditions some serious contenders for the Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, which is just a little over three weeks away now.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are kindly supporting today’s card. Five of today’s races are sponsored by Betfred, including our feature race, The Grand National Trial Handicap Steeple Chase Meanwhile The Pertemps Network are sponsors of the Handicap Hurdle Race at 3.18pm and Albert Bartlett sponsor the Prestige Novices’ Hurdle Race, with runners going to post at 4.25pm We wish them and their guests a lovely day.
We’re also very excited to be welcoming Michael Smith, the reigning PDC World Darts Champion and World No.1, to Haydock Park today. Michael will be out and about across the racecourse throughout the day and will be presenting some of our winners with their awards in the Winner’s Enclosure – so keep your eyes peeled for him!
Keeping in theme with the day, close to the main entrance you’ll be able to find a replica Grand National Fence to get up close to Head over to get a look at exactly what the Randox Grand National runners are taking on when they compete in the world’s most famous steeplechase race which takes place at Aintree on April 15
We are also thrilled to be joined by Autism in Racing who we have worked with to offer a sensory room which is located in the Jubilee Suite. Please do head over there if you’re in need of a quiet space during the day.
After today, we’ll be turning our attention to the 22nd of March when we have afternoon racing, followed by our highlyanticipated Superhero Family Day on the 8th of April – so make sure you mark your calendars for a great afternoon of fun which will see loads of fantastic entertainment and games for everyone to enjoy.
For now I’d like to wish you a wonderful day with us here at Haydock Park
Warm wishes
Molly Dingwall General Manager
