Many thanks to today's sponsors: the Watson family and the Curzon Family.

It will be good to see some young and more senior people engaging in the “Behind the Scenes” initiative to hopefully encourage more participation in racing careers and also for many to see how a raceday works, whether for the trainer/ jockey or racecourse. This is a new initiative for us, but I believe vital for the next generation to engage in this special sport. Many thanks to ZebraPR and Diane for setting this up. Please do go and have a look

Cheltenham is not far away, so do please come to our Cheltenham Review on the 8th March which will be lots of fun, with a different twist to it. We also have our Cheltenham Gold Cup day at the racecourse on the 14th; all can be booked on the Ludlow Racecourse web site.

Best Wishes,

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Race Summary:

A straightforward task awaits NO QUESTIONS ASKED, who split a couple of useful-looking novices when runner-up in Listed company recently and a reproduction of that effort would be more than sufficient. Bumper winner John Barbour could be the one to follow him home if his jumping passes the test, while Tracking Treasure is taken to again finish third, having done so over this C&D two weeks ago

BOLD RECRUIT: Following its run on 16/12/2024 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed. Betting Forecast: 9-4 Bold Recruit (IRE), 5-2 Pike Road (GB), 11-2 Doctor Midas (FR), 8-1 Keel Strand (FR), 10-1 Swift Jet (IRE), 22-1 Loch Frisa (IRE), 25-1 Queensland Boy (IRE)

Race Summary: It’s probably fair to say PIKE ROAD didn’t improve on his maiden hurdle form when fifth on handicap debut at Catterick but that was still a decent effort and he shades preference ahead of Bold Recruit. Big-yard representatives Doctor Midas and Keel Strand may both step up on what they’ve shown so far now faced with a stiffer test, while Swift Jet could also have a part to play.

Race Summary:

The change of tactics probably didn’t help REGAL RENAISSANCE at Fakenham and it would be no surprise whatsoever to see this consistent 7-y-o get back on track in what should be a strongly-run race She gets the nod ahead of Sacre Coeur, who lost little caste in defeat at Uttoxeter and a reproduction of that effort would put her firmly in the picture. Current Mood also enters calculations.

This is designed to provide privacy for the Veterinary Surgeons, the patient and connections Please do not assume the worst.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
