AFTERNOON RACING
SATURDAY 17 JULY 2021 Official Racecard £3
THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU Welcome to the July Course. It is a pleasure to welcome you to Newmarket’s July Course for a summer’s afternoon of racing here in this most beautiful of settings. We have seven races to savour today, including the Thank You Dr Jerry Hill Handicap, our second race on the card. Dr Jerry Hill is the Chief Medical Advisor for the British Horseracing Authority and was recently awarded an MBE for services to British Horseracing during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Queen’s birthday honours list. His compassionate approach during these challenging times is greatly appreciated by the sport. The race forms part of The Jockey Club Grassroots Series, which aims to offer enhanced prize money for horses operating below the highest level and culminates on Finals Day at Nottingham on Wednesday 29th September. Today we remember the late Ric and Mary Hambro with the Ric and Mary Hambro Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes and we are very grateful to their family for supporting this race. We would like to thank Lettergold, Fine Watch Club, Avenue Bloodstock and Maritime Cargo for their generous sponsorship of this afternoon’s racing. We also extend our thanks to Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, for their sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility. Though we are now very close to returning to life without restrictions, we all still have a crucial role to play in minimising the spread of coronavirus. I therefore remind you of our customer code of conduct, the key points of which can be found on page 6 I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck and hope that you all have a wonderful time with us here at Newmarket this afternoon. Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General ManagerWHAT’S ON SITE TODAY?

Dubai 2020 will be long remembered as the one of the most difficult years that our generation will have ever faced. Covid-19 has brought many challenges to everyday personal and business life. The Thoroughbred Racing Community across the globe have had to make many tough decisions to keep racing going albeit behind closed doors. As racecourses across the UK start to welcome a limited number of people back to their tracks, we would like to congratulate Sophie and her team at Newmarket Racecourse, The Home of British Racing, on their efforts and determination to bring back spectators. We know it isn’t the same as before but we look forward very much to returning to the track in numbers to enjoy the sport we all love. Good luck to all and stay safe.
