Good afternoon and welcome to Ripon Racecourse Ladies’ Day! It’s been a very quick turnaround for us after racing last night but we’re raring to go this afternoon for the ﬁrst post-lockdown Ladies’ Day in the UK. Ladies’ Day is always one of the highlights of our season here and we’re delighted to offer some wonderful prizes in our Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat competitions today, courtesy of our sponsors Jenny Roberts Millinery, The Secret Spa in Bedale and Grantley Hall. We are delighted to welcome Jenny Roberts, Valeria Sykes of Grantley Hall and Melissa Hogan of The Secret Spa who, along with 2019 Best Dressed Lady winner Lisa Longden, will form your judging panel this afternoon. The competition will take place around the bandstand after the conclusion of our 2.15 race (around 2.20). Our feature race on the track is the Mansionbet’s Betstival Beaten by a Head Handicap at 2.50, featuring four-time Course winner Benadalid. The Chris Fairhurst-trained six-year-old is on a career high mark after his impressive win here on his penultimate run but it would be churlish to rule him out on his favourite track. SHALADAR was unable to build on his debut third at Doncaster when encountering softer conditions at York last month but he is worth a chance to bounce back on a sounder surface. Mot And The Messer is expected to step forward from his first start having finished fifth at Haydock, while Boondoggle is likely to know his job ahead of his racecourse bow.

Sea The Stars ﬁlly Aletoile has failed to ﬁre thus far in the campaign but is respected off 9lb lower than her handicap debut in April. Moorland Queen has been running well over shorter and merits consideration now attempting this trip.

Top-weight Excessable takes a drop in class and may well ﬁnd life that little bit easier in this company, with Mo Henry another to consider for the places back on the turf.

Trainer Richard Fahey took this in 2019 with Borodin and sends Delph Crescent this year with Andrew Mullen riding. He can go close back up in trip after a poor seventh over a mile at Ayr last time. DATA PROTECTION is preferred, though, as his stable is in great form and he is dropped in class after a third at Epsom. He will appreciate the quicker going here and should prove hard to beat, while Briardale is better than we saw last time and had been on a winning run in lesser company prior to that.

HARLEM SOUL may just have needed his ﬁrst run of the season when third here at the beginning of the month and the switch into handicap company for the ﬁrst time is likely to see the son of Frankel improve. Fight For It has shown promise on all three outings to date and appears to be on a workable handicap mark, while the extra couple of furlongs might see Impulsive One take a step forward.

Dance King illustrated that he retains plenty of ability at the age of 11 on his penultimate start and demands consideration. The son of Cable Bay has placed on his last three outings and should we see a reproduction of that level of form, he could prove tough to beat. Little India sits 3lb above her last winning mark and completes the shortlist.
