WELCOME TO SALISBURY RACECOURSE Today is our eighth race meeting of the season, so it is now half way through. However, there is still plenty to look forward to, with all our feature races still to come. We have been blessed with fine weather at our previous four fixtures with racegoers. Today isn’t forecasted to be particularly sunny, but let us hope it stays dry. We have greatly enjoyed having people back at the racing but we continue to be limited on numbers permitted to attend, and there are certain rules that we all still have to follow. Thank you for your co-operation complying with those regulations – maintaining social distancing, face masks where required, hand hygiene, and sitting for your food and drink consumption. We will learn more tomorrow whether the remaining restrictions are to be finally lifted from 19th July, and can then plan the rest of our season accordingly. I am sure that most of you will be watching England in tonight’s Euro 2020 Final. We wish our national team the best of luck against Italy and hope that they can lift the trophy and be European champions for the first time. Thank you for coming racing with us today and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Our next race meeting is Saturday evening 24th July. Best wishes, Jeremy Martin Executive Director & Clerk of the Course

STAR RATING EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims ‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance. OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TODAY’S TIPS DID YOU KNOW: William Haggas is 3-3 with his runners at Salisbury this year, yielding a level stakes profit of £15.50, and today he saddles Penywern Taverner in the 1.50 and Yojaari in the 3.00. RACE ONE ALMADRINA was beaten less than a length when attempting to back up a victory at Brighton on her penultimate outing at the same course under a penalty last month. The daughter of Australia is capable of taking another step forward and she can prove too strong for the opposition. Roman Mist has been in consistent form over the past few months and commands respect along with Bolly Bullet. WIN: ALMADRINA DANGER: ROMAN MIST RACE TWO ADJUVANT made a winning debut at Chester last month when producing his best work at the finish to get up in the closing stages and the son of New Bay is entitled to take a big step forward despite carrying a penalty. City Runner is expected to improve from his second at Windsor with the extra furlong likely to aid his cause, while others to consider include Oh Herberts Reign and Fuente Ovejuna. WIN: ADJUVANT DANGER: CITY RUNNER RACE THREE BOLD AND LOYAL is bred to be very smart, a son of Frankel out of an unraced half-sister to Enable, and he is expected to have learnt plenty from his racecourse debut when fifth at Sandown. Tartan Chief finished third on his debut at Haydock and is capable of being in the mix along with Tying The Knot, a 75,000gns purchase at the Tattersalls sale in April. WIN: BOLD AND LOYAL DANGER: TARTAN CHIEF RACE FOUR Clive Cox has his string in fine form at present and could saddle another with here with seasonal debutant ARATUS. The Free Eagle colt shaped with lots of promise as a juvenile, building on his Newbury second when scoring easily at Kempton (both over 7f), and he may improve again for subsequent wind surgery. Yojaari fairly bolted up at Thirsk and rates the biggest threat, while Waleyfa and Unique Cut are others to watch out for. WIN: ARATUS DANGER: YOJAARI RACE FIVE DEEP SNOW is fragile but talented, finishing second on her debut in 2019 before winning her only start last year and she is one from one so far in 2021. The Bated Breath filly gamely won a novice stakes event over C&D last time and could strike again on her handicap bow. Nell Quickly also has a consistent profile and she could put up most resistance, while Fairy Cakes isn’t out of it either. WIN: DEEP SNOW DANGER: NELL QUICKLY RACE SIX INVINCIBLE SOLDIER caught the eye when putting in a career best to finish second over a mile at Leicester eight days ago. That performance suggests that he should be suited by this step up in trip and a 1lb rise in the ratings appears to be fair. Sisterandbrother also hit the crossbar on his most recent outing and he is likely to pose the biggest threat to the selection. The rest look to be up against it but Monsieur Fantaisie is arguably the pick of them. WIN: INVINCIBLE SOLDIER DANGER: SISTERANDBROTHER RACE SEVEN Most of these have claims but preference is for the unexposed SNOWALOT, who showed plenty of ability when finishing second on his handicap debut over this trip at Nottingham last month. A 3lb rise for that effort appears to be fair, especially as he may have more to offer on just his fifth career start. Cherry Cola is an obvious danger having won at the same venue when last seen. Others to note are Running Cloud and Orin Swift. WIN: SNOWALOT DANGER: CHERRY COLA RACE EIGHT CROWN POWER looked promising in her early starts on the all-weather at the end of last year, including when beating the reopposing End Result with plenty to spare at Kempton in October. She failed to build on that win on her handicap debut at the same track next time but she is given another chance to build on her early promise now switching to turf. End Result has bumped into some nicely handicapped types in recent starts and looks a danger, while Tralee Hills has hit a purple patch recently and can also have a major say in proceedings. WIN: CROWN POWER DANGER: END RESULT toteplacepot suggestions: (1) 1 & 3 (2) 6 & 8 (3) 1 & 6 (4) 4 & 5 (5) 1 & 5 (6) 1 & 3

THE BYERLEY STUD RACING EXCELLENCE APPRENTICE SERIES AT SALISBURY The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Byerley Stud. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys. The first race took place on 13th May and was won by Elinor Jones on the Stuart Kittow trained 4-1 favourite, Newton Jack. The second race on 13th June was won by Liam Browne on the 25-1 chance Amal, trained by John Jenkins. After today’s race, the remaining two races are on 11th August and 2nd September. A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows: 1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point. Additional points are awarded by the jockeys’ coach for presentation, professionalism, course familiarisation walk and riding ability. At the end of the Series the top three riders in the Series will receive prizes as follows, kindly provided by Byerley Stud. 1ST - £1,500

2ND - £1,000

3RD - £500

The current scores are as follows: Liam Browne ............................................................................ 16 Mollie Phillips............................................................................14 Stephen Mooney ................................................................... 12 Jonny Peate ............................................................................... 12 Oisin McSweeney................................................................... 11 Elinor Jones................................................................................. 11 Bradley Harris............................................................................ 11 Owen Lewis................................................................................10 Alex Jary..........................................................................................9 Charlie O’Dwyer........................................................................8 Erika Parkinson ......................................................................... 5 John Shinnick............................................................................. 5 Morgan Cole................................................................................ 5 Christian Howarth................................................................... 5 Rose Dawes.................................................................................. 5 Frederick Larson ...................................................................... 5 Hannah Fraser........................................................................... 5 Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA rebranded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’. In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP. The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.

Tartan Chief and Bold And Loyal should both step forward from their debuts, so they can be considered the main threats to the selection.
