Joseph Ayres, the Selling Agent of WindRiver Lakefront and Golf Community on Tellico Lake and also Creekside Estates comments, “This truly is an opportunity that has not happened in the Town of Farragut limits for many years. The trend in West Knoxville has often been to have a much higher density in this area. With Creekside Es4 March 29, 2018 | A Place Called Home | Spring

tates we have taken the opposite approach. This land has the potential for eight owners to build beautiful homes, have privacy and have room for outdoor features such as expansive pool areas, playgrounds and even a barn for horses. It’s the type of lifestyle that many people still want in the western part of Knox County. We have set protective building restrictions to protect your investment!” Michael Dulin, General Contractor and Building Company President with Arthur Rutenberg Homes notes, “We have home designs and floor plans that will work well on these properties. The size of the lots will allow for homes with 4+ car garages and many other features that simply do not work on smaller residential lots. As a true custom home builder, the options that these Arthur Rutenberg Homes can have to fit the owners’ lifestyle are also unlimited. The award winning designs and floor plan layouts will range from square footage options See CREEKSIDE on Page 5

of 3,000 square feet to over 7,000 square feet. There truly are many plans from which to choose, however, if a buyer does not see what he or she likes, our in-house Architecture department at Arthur Rutenberg Homes can design a custom home from the ground up!” Dulin adds, “Arthur Rutenberg Homes has a storied history of building custom homes on some of the most unique and breathtaking properties throughout the Southeast United States. We build on golf courses, ranches, lakefront and ocean front properties, so Creekside Estates is the type of project that aligns so well with our Construction Excellence and Design Elegance. Amish Excellence

Amish Excellence Dedicated to Things that Last: God, Family, Integrity, Thrift and Simplicity Celebrating their second year in business, the Amish Excellence showroom now offers upholstered sofas and chairs which are also Amish-made. “We use only solid American hardwoods such as quarter-sawn white oak, maple, cherry, hickory and elm, as well as several other wood species” owner Angie Carroll says. “There are no veneers, laminates or imports at Amish Excellence and we are the only store in the area that exclusively offers Amish handcrafted furniture. Custom order is our specialty. We do not have a large inventory on hand from which customers have choices on wood type, stain or fabric color.” Amish Excellence customers are involved in every aspect of the design and are often surprised to find so many options available. Carroll adds, “While dining tables and bedrooms have been a big part of our business in the past, we’re now seeing several requests for ‘live edge’ pieces. This is furniture that is the shape of the tree and in some cases, may still have the bark on it.” She chose to work with Amish builders because of the quality of the craftsmanship and integrity they are so well known for. “They’re known for fine, quality pieces and that’s what I wanted. I didn’t want to have to apologize for inferior workmanship or materials.” Carroll explains. “It’s also important that we offer American made furniture that is sustainable, Earth-friendly, and chemical-free.” Amish Excellence is located in Farragut Village at the corner of Grigsby Chapel Road and Kingston Pike (just behind Walgreens). Angie Cody

Angie Cody Team work allows growth Real estate was always in the back of Angie Cody’s mind and in 2006 she pulled it off the back burner and was off and running with a career she loves. “I was told in my early 20s that I would be good at real estate and just went for it,” she says. An independent contractor with Realty Executives Associates, she likes having her own business and clientele. The flexibility to somewhat set her own schedule lets her juggle her professional and personal life which includes her son, a student at Knoxville Christian School where she’s a volunteer mom. She likes helping families and works with many that are relocating to the area. They’ve researched online and like what they see about Farragut. Cody moved here 20 years ago after doing her own research. As a Realtor she focuses on West Knox County and knows what it’s like to be a newcomer from her own experience. A self-described “people person and people pleaser” Cody relishes the compliments she gets from clients when she’s done a good job. “Real estate can be stressful and it makes me feel good that I’ve done 16 March 29, 2018 | A Place Called Home | Spring

a good job and helped clients reach their goals,” she says. Buying a house is usually the most expensive purchase anyone will make and she strives to find the right fit for each client. “I just want to help more and more families each year in selling homes,” Cody says. “Each year I’ve been in business it’s grown. I sell 40 to 50 houses a year.” In 2017 Angie formed the Angie Cody Team. This has allowed her to grow her business even more and allow her clients to have a better experience knowing there are several licensed Realtors assisting them in either selling or buying. Also in 2017 Angie became a Real Estate coach with a national real estate coaching company called Club Wealth. She is coaching Realtors across the country. Angie enjoys helping people so this seemed like a natural role for her to take on since she is also a Club Wealth coaching client and has seen her business grow because of the result in coaching. Angie Cody can be reached at Realty Executives Associates, 865693-3232 or angie@angiecody.com.

Diversified Enclosures & Screen

Time to relax on the porch Diversified Enclosures & Screen offers custom sunrooms It’s a beautiful night, low humidity, slight breeze, great time to relax on the porch. It’s East Tennessee so grab the mosquito repellent and don’t forget the fly swatter. That is unless you have the Eze-Breeze system from Diversified Enclosures & Screen. Then you can sit back, relax and laugh at the bugs! Mike and Stacy Pfeffer are owners and have been in business since 2000. They can transform your existing porch into a bug-free zone or build a screened porch or sunroom from the ground up. What makes their system different is it uses memory vinyl, not glass, cutting the cost in about half from traditional systems. With our mild winters, Eze-Breeze rooms can be used nearly year round. A sunroom with glass windows becomes a permanent structure but their system allows homeowners to still use the sunroom as an outdoor porch. The advantage is when you want to let the breeze in you can collapse the vinyl windows for 75 percent ventilation, leaving a screened porch. “We probably do 200 to 300 a year,” says Stacy Pfeffer of the EzeBreeze system. “Most people use them like a normal sun room putting their TV and patio furniture in one. It’s all sealed against the weather.”

18 March 29, 2018 | A Place Called Home | Spring

Everything is powder coated aluminum and maintenance free in three color options. There are even three sizes of pet doors that can be installed in the “people door” or a solid wall. Pfeffer says people find all sorts of ways to use the sunrooms. One customer bought one for her cats, calling it her “catio.” Another wanted a bird sanctuary and customers have used them to stash temperature sensitive plants for the winter. “We can screen a 9 x 13 opening without any posts in the center,” Pfeffer says. “People who live on the lake don’t want their view obstructed and we can do those large openings and offer a lifetime blowout warranty.” The self-locking spline system withholds 550 pounds of pressure. The company also offers powder coated aluminum handrails in bronze or white. Handrails are custom built for each project and can be done to any height or length. Custom gates are built to match. They also use custom built screen doors from PCA Products, a sister company. The office number is 865-453-6780. Check out the Web site at sunandscreen.com or visit the show room at 110 Flat Creek Rd. in Sevierville, TN.

Gina Johnson

Gina Johnson Gina Johnson went into the real estate business more than two decades ago. As a realtor, she helps clients of all ages buy and sell homes. She loves the business but she especially loves working with senior citizens as they transition into their golden years. “I just really enjoy working with seniors,” said Johnson, who works for Coldwell Banker, Wallace & Wallace, Realtors and began working in the real estate business in 1996. “I work with everybody, I work with young people who are first-time home buyers, relocating to, from and within the area and I work with seniors. “I love helping seniors and I love helping people, period,” said Johnson, who formerly worked as a high school math teacher. “When you deal with seniors, it’s different. “A lot of times, you’re dealing with a widow who is downsizing and is not used to having to make a decision alone. You have special concerns. You sometimes have to deal with auctions and estate sales.” Guiding them through the process is most rewarding. Most seniors have not sold homes in several years.” Johnson has a Senior Real Estate Specialist designation from the National Association of REALTORS and her special interest in senior relocation may have been inspired by her mother. “My mother is 98 years old,” Johnson said. “She still drives and she has a single family home of her own. “She has a home of her own and it’s not a condo.” While this is extremely impressive, Johnson said that she knows this is a rarity, especially in the Knoxville Area. “My husband and I have lived in Knoxville all of our lives and I know my market well,” Johnson said. “In Knoxville, you just don’t have affordable single homes for senior citizens.” “Many people would like to have a single family home that’s 1,600-square feet or less, but there are just not that many affordable homes like that for seniors in Knoxville,” Johnson continued. In addition to the lack of affordable single family homes for seniors, Johnson adds that assisted living facilities and nursing homes are also expensive, “We’re an aging population,” Johnson said. “Assisted living and nursing facilities are extremely expensive.” As a Senior Real Estate Specialist, Johnson said that she must work extremely hard to educate her clients and establish trust. For that, she relies on her past experience as a school teacher. “When you deal with people, whether they be first-time home buyers or seniors, you have to educate them,” she said. “When you deal with young first-time buyers, they have some idea about the process of buying or selling a home. “The senior may not know because they haven’t been in the market for a home for a long time and you have to establish a trust with them.” Johnson has earned many awards and designations over the years and is dedicated to the real estate profession as a full time Realtor always anxious to use her real estate expertise to assist her clients sell and purchase homes putting the clients interest first. Johnson can be contacted at 865-966-1111. ~ Ken Lay 22 March 29, 2018 | A Place Called Home | Spring

Morning Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care

State Farm Homeowners

Morning Pointe Residents Paint with Purpose The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Lenoir City hosted the “Painting with a Purpose” painting party with family and friends. Sparkling cider and hors d’oeuvres were served as the artists worked on their pieces. Teresa Karimian, owner of Unique Technique Painting, donated her time and talents to the cause, assisting guests with their creations and exploring the therapeutic benefits of art. The canvases, illustrated by the minds of those with Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions, will be on display during the Art for Alzheimer’s Auction on April 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the memory care community located at 155 Morning Pointe Dr. The associates, families and local volunteers are credited with pulling the gallery together for the seniors, who are the true stars of the show. Every week, the residents will engage in creative self-expression as they prepare work to be featured. Funds raised from the auction will benefit the upcoming Alzheimer’s Tennessee walk in Knoxville. “Our volunteers have been very drawn to what we do here at the Lantern, and they are happy to give their time to seeing this project come to light,” says Maggie Devaney, program director at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Lenoir City. “We find so much joy from seeing our residents exercise their creativity with colors on the canvas.” Morning Pointe Senior Living is the region’s choice for assisted living and Alzheimer’s memory care in East Tennessee, with locations in Clinton, Lenoir City (2), Powell and Knoxville (coming in Fall 2018). Realty Executives

Powered

by Experts

50 Years of Real Estate Excellence In 1965 a real estate professional named Dale Rector was about to transform the real estate industry. The concept, designed to provide the maximum benefit to the most productive, experienced and effective real estate agents, birthed the first ever 100% commission real estate company - Realty Executives. Now, they are top producers, and they close 32% more transaction sides per agent than other leading franchises. Realty Executives Associates was founded in 1979 by R. Vance Burkey who bought the first original 100% concept franchise. (The 100% concept draws a much stronger agent). They were the number one firm in the market in 1985 and have held that position for over four decades. The gap between them and their competitors is growing daily. They have evolved to be the best perceived Residential firm in East Tennessee with over 550 agents and eight offices. They have six operating offices, two licensed offices, and 28 employees. The company is run with the philosophy of providing a high level of resources, services and tools to the productive agent. An agent driven company that demands professionalism and ethics. Their operating offices are brokered literally seven days a week to assist the agents and the consumer. The three largest offices are brokered by principal owners in the firm. Realty Executives Associates was the first firm in East Tennessee to sell over one million in residential sales in one year and the first to sell over one billion in sales in one year. They take pride in being one of the lowest fee companies in the industry in their market. They have only had one agent fee increase since 1998. They provide top technology packages for agents, staff, and bookkeeping with a compliance division that coordinates agent’s paperwork to comply with federal, state and MLS requirements – a true paperless firm! Their strong presence in the News Sentinel with a long term lock on the center page spread of the Saturday and Sunday real estate insert, provides an effective, inexpensive form of advertising for the agents. The tenured administrative and office staff provides a wealth of knowledge for the agents and their assistants. They provide full services to agents from inputting listings, process closings and assist with various agent procedures. Realty Executives Associates has a nationally recognized relocation department and also has a large commercial division with nine agents, two of which hold a CCIM designation. They have a property management department that handles over 500 residential single family homes and is in the process of bringing the same level of management to commercial properties. They house one of the areas largest marketing department that services real estate agents, builders and developers, providing a full range of branding, budgeting and promotion with an array of marketing products. ~ Submitted

Coldwell Banker Sr. Specialist

Assisting seniors through the real estate process Larry Maynard is one of six agents at Coldwell Banker Wallace and Wallace Realtors in Farragut who specializes as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, or SRES®. This credential from the National Association of REALTOR®s, earned after spending 16 hours in classroom training, better prepares them to help clients over 50 with their real estate needs. As a REALTOR®, Maynard says he knows that the decision to buy or sell a house or move can be difficult for anyone. He noted this is especially the case for seniors who may be facing other life transitions. “As an SRES®, you support clients 50 and over, or the Baby Boomer Generation,” Maynard said. “Those people are undergoing unique life transitions.” “They might be facing retirement, or downsizing. They could be looking at multi-generational residences for themselves, their parents, and their children. Often, they have emotional attachments to their homes and lifestyle that need a level of support unique to their situation.” Maynard adds some seniors might not have experienced a home sale or purchase for many years. “The real estate transaction process has

changed significantly and the amount of documents to navigate a buy or sell can be overwhelming. Having a trained SRES® agent as support can be invaluable.” As an added service to the community, the Coldwell Banker SRES® agents are providing a means for properly retiring the American flag. “Statistics show that 68% of 50+ clients fly the American flag,” says Maynard. “While helping seniors retire themselves, why not provide a means to retire Old Glory as well?” The Coldwell Banker Farragut Office serves as a drop-off point for worn flags and the SRES® agents work to ensure they are disposed of correctly. As SRES® agents, Maynard and his colleagues strive to make all facets of real estate transitions easier for their clients. Maynard can be reached at 865-966-1111 or by email: realtyxl@charter.net. ~ Ken Lay
