Setting T H E Standard F O R Nursing Excellence BOSTON
Massachusetts ranks in the top five states for highest salaries for both nurse practitioners (3) and registered nurses (4) in the country. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Nurses are the backbone of healthcare. As the population of patients continues to grow, so does the need for highly qualified nurses and nurse leaders who can provide quality care and promote positive health outcomes. OnwardHealthcare recently named Boston the #1 city for nurses, citing a high quality of life, many and varied job opportunities, amenities, nursing salaries, cost of living and the city’s personality as a whole. Boston is also home to many of the state’s Magnet® hospitals—a designation awarded to just eight
percent of U.S. institutions by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for demonstrating a “hard-earned commitment to excellence in health care, with contented nurses at its heart.” Emmanuel’s home in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) affords convenient access and developing partnerships with neighborhood institutions such as Boston Children’s Hospital*, Brigham & Women’s Hospital*, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute* and Joslin Diabetes Center. *Magnet® status Emmanuel College

A New Chapter for Healthcare at Emmanuel
When the College welcomed its first cohort of traditional undergraduate nursing students to campus in the fall of 2019, students joined a longstanding tradition of excellence in the field. Emmanuel has been a leader in nursing education for over 40 years, through its RN-to-BSN program, launched in 1980, and the Master of Science in Nursing, which launched in 2011.
“Emmanuel students have the benefit of walking across the street for clinical rotations and internship experiences at the top hospitals in the world. When they graduate, they have already gained the experiences and participated at a level that will set them up for success for their entire career.” – Josef Kurtz, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer

Nick Eline ’23 CLINICAL LOCATION: Spaulding Hospital When it comes to “firsts,” Nick’s Emmanuel experience is full of them. He is a member of the first cohort of the College’s traditional undergraduate nursing program, which has created a special connection with his classmates. “Being a member of the inaugural cohort provides many opportunities for learning and growth,” he said. “Without any cohorts above to give us advice, my classmates and I have built a close-knit connection built on collaboration, communication, and a mutual appreciation for the experience that we are sharing.” During the second semester of his first year, COVID-19 sent shockwaves through the nursing profession, and Nick found himself watching a public health crisis unfold on the news in real time.
“Any doubts that the pandemic created were washed away as the true nature of nursing was illuminated in the determination, resiliency, patience and caring of healthcare professionals across the world,” he said. “The pandemic has made me want to become a nurse more than ever before.”

As a nursing student, you will launch into your nursing coursework as early as your first semester, with a first-year nursing seminar that will assist you in acquiring the essential skills, techniques and behaviors that will lead to success as a student, a lifelong learner and a beginning member of the nursing profession. You’ll have access to nursing faculty right away and will also be guided by both an academic advisor and a nursing faculty advisor—resources that will set you up for a meaningful and rewarding journey.
The Joanne DiGeronimo Migliaro and Anthony Migliaro Nursing Skills Laboratory (opened in 2021) simulates a real clinical setting, giving you the chance and practice a range of skills such as medication administration, sterile technique, IV therapy, and tracheostomy/nasogastric care safely. The labs host state-of-the-art equipment including Omnicell, IV pumps, medication carts, blood pressure cuffs, enteral feeding pumps, stretchers and vital sign machines. The School’s simulation laboratories allow faculty to control fast-paced patient scenarios and observe and guide students in real time.
