Summer is Heating up in Hillsdale

Summertime means more hours outdoors enjoying the balmy nights and longer daylight. Enjoy summer at Sandy Beach relaxing, playing volleyball or basketball, and more!

Baw Beese Lake is great for boating, fishing, and swimming with access to Sandy Beach, Owen Memorial Park and Waterworks Park along Waterworks Drive. A public boat launch is available at the DNR launch just off the Waterworks Park parking area. Season admission passes to Sandy Beach are available. Hillsdale has popular summer event series that will give you a reason to step out and savor these summer nights.

Movies in the Park, sponsored by the Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities, returns with three family-friendly movies that are free for everyone. The movies will be shown on June 17, July 8, and August 5, shortly after it gets dark. (Please note these showings are subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Any questions should be directed to marketing@hillsdalebpu.com.)

Music fans will be happy to know that the Tuesdays in the Park concert series is also a go for 2022. Also a free event, the concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in Mrs. Stock’s Park. The concerts will be held every Tuesday through August 9. People attending either of these series should bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Hillsdale’s Summer in the City will be Friday, August 5, in downtown Hillsdale with a car show and vendors in front of the courthouse from 4 to 8 p.m. Sidewalk sales with local merchants are planned. Tri-State Scenic Steam Excursion - August 27 & August 28 This all-day, 100-mile train ride will treat passengers to a late summer train ride from Edon, Ohio, to Southeastern Michigan for a three-hour layover in the historic downtown of Hillsdale.
