Sheri Lynne, a new local author from Jackson County, recently contacted me about her publications. Hawaiian Dreaming and Hawaiian Flames are the first two books in her trilogy. The stories are somewhat based on her deceased husband and his twin brother who both served in the military and had once hoped to open a restaurant in Hawaii.
Hawaiian Dreaming introduces us to twin Mike TreVaine who served in the Air Force, stationed on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. After leaving the military he stuck around, and now Mike and twin Mark own a popular restaurant on the island, the Hawaiian Lanai. They are noticing a suspicious shortage in their liquor inventory. Jenna Hathaway is in her final year of studying to be a Certified Public Accountant. They hire her to discover how these shortages are happening. Instant fireworks occur between her and Mike upon their meeting. As Jenna delves into their books, she uncovers more than she bargained for. Loan sharks and undercover cops become involved. Her relationship with Mike ends predictably!
Hawaiian Flames continues with older brother to the twins, Captain Peyton TreVaine. Peyton has spent ten years in special ops division in Afghanistan, with his last year in search and rescue. He is ready to leave all of that behind. He joins his brothers in Oahu and is deciding his
I assume her final book in the trilogy is the story of twin, Mark. However, never assume! Sheri Lynne’s two books are in local libraries. On her Facebook page, there are links to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Dorrance Books. Happy reading!
Lastly, my husband Marty recently read a book he enjoyed, and I asked him to write the following review. The War Journal of Major Damon “Rocky” Gause; Firsthand Account of One of the Greatest Escapes of World War II is one of one of the most inspiring true-life escapes from enemy captivity in print. This account was undiscovered for 50 years in a footlocker and sent to his wife after his death. His son published it without change in 1999. It is truly a tale fitting of America’s Greatest Generation. The story is of a 3,000-mile voyage in a 20 foot wooden boat from the Bataan Peninsula to Australia. After the fall of the Philippines to Japanese forces in 1942, the Major and his partner, Lieutenant William Osborne, made the trek in 52 days. The story includes romance, shark attacks, a visit to the world’s largest leper colony, strafing by enemy aircraft, typhoons, food and water deprivation, and much more. Unbelievable, is all I can say.
