London is the place to be this fall as the art fair season descends on the city. There are some niche events we’ll definitely be highlighting twice in our agendas, like Crossroads Art Show 2016, taking place from 6-9 October at The Old Truman Brewery in East London.

Crossroads is an art fair that has brought together 50 international galleries and special projects, handpicked by a team of renowned curators. It presents a dialogue between cultures, geographies, history, diverse political situations and aesthetics and will include artists and curators such as Eva Ruiz, Pablo León de la Barra, Fernando Bryce, Franklin Evans, Cecilia Jurado, Bruno Leitão, Federico Luger, Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo, Manuela Ribadeneira, Aura Seikkula and Octavio Zaya.

The London Design Biennale in now opened in London at Somerset House. Installations, artworks, prototypes and designs from 37 countries and territories have come together in an entertaining and inspiring exploration of the role of design in our collective futures.

Visitors will interact with brand new work by world-leading architects, designers, scientists, writers and artists in a broad, vibrant exhibition that includes large-scale kinetic sculpture, immersive digital installations, culinary pop-ups, performances and VR renderings of the future. Each exhibit is a response to the Biennale’s 2016 theme ‘Utopia by Design’, chosen as part of Somerset House’s UTOPIA 2016: A Year of Imagination and Possibility, to mark the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More’s text. The resulting commissions are richly varied, including fantastical imaginings of future cities, homages to unrealised utopian proposals of the past, and innovative solutions for issues in 21st-century life. We recommend you to visit the Israel exhibition where with their project “Human Touch”.
They show how design can address human needs in extreme situations and impact positively on society. Don’t miss either Turkeys proposal of a “wish tree” an interactive installation where the wishes for a better future are casted. In a world where water is becoming a “luxury good” in some countries Saudi Arabia shows us the their “ Water Machine” the need for global structural change towards sustainable resources. Following the concept of a vending machine to represent the Syrian conflict, France provokes interaction an reflection on the ongoing situation of the refugees. The Brooklyn-based designer opened her small, multidisciplinary studio Slash Projects in 2013, and since than has been exploring design through varied mediums. You might have caught glimpses of artist Andrea Zarraluqui’s porcelain creations on instagram. If you’re like us, you won’t be able to choose a one and only favourite. Because, you know, variety is the spice of life! Here’s some bit and pieces of this talented painter’s life and work. Andrea was born into a wine producing family and was able to study in in London and New York, cities in which she lectured and perfected her unique style. She started painting on canvas and then moved to the porcelain realm. To develop each piece she mixes paint and plates she buys everywhere she goes and that later on serve as inspiration for future creative concepts. It’s this personal, handmade touch that sets her designs apart and have won her so many accolades for her work. Olivia Palermo, Carolina Herrera, Nuria March or Cayetana Martínez de Irujo are among her biggest fans. If you look closely at the images of her work you will see a myriad of inspirations, from exquisite botanicals to abstract flowers and colourful birds. He once collected blood from 20 celebrities to make a piece of art for his Life Is Not a Fairytale exhibit in Los Angeles (and also photographed Lindsay Lohan as a vampire).
Tyler did a series where he destroyed things to see just how well they were made. Like the Birkin bag he set on fire (before he used chainsaw, but it seems that wasn’t enough). He was a professional inline skater. He participated in the 1999 and 2000 X Games and toured with Tony Hawk in 2003
Shields was criticised for a photoshoot with Glee star Heather Morris with a bruised eye as making light of abusive treatment of women. The photographer apologised after receiving death threats, saying, “If you are anti-domestic abuse spread the word about it. Threatening to kill me is not going to help anything”.t

You might think there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to photographs of David Bowie. But think again. Snap Galleries’s new exhibition, David Bowie - unseen photographs, will feature unpublished photos from the acclaimed artist in the early stages of his musical career. The photographs were taken by the photographer Gerald Fearn. He was the brother of “Dek” Fearnley, the bass player of the band The Buzz, who played on Bowie’s very first album. Gerald’s was the colour portrait that appeared on the front cover of David Bowie’s first album, the self-titled 1 June 1967 release David Bowie.

Del Pozo’s alluring resort collection

There is a mysterious appeal in Delpozo that makes its pieces stand out. Maybe it’s the brand’s unique approach to volume, color and silhouette. Or perhaps its the freshness of Creative Director Josep Font, whose designs reflect his architectural beginnings and couture savoir faire. For his first resort collection, he has found inspiration in one of the silent cinema’s great narrators, George Méliès. This season’s starburst print pays homage to Méliès’ masterpiece Le voyage dans la Lune. The French cinematographic took inspiration from the sun and the moon, creating fantastical solar and lunar landscapes. Font has taken this concept and applied it to volume and texture. Other references include British abstract sculptor Anthony Caro, which inspires the organic silhouettes of Delpozo’s DNA: delicate petal arches, trapezoid shapes, draped knots and bows mix with Font’s powerful use of colour. So pure, yet piquant.

Their 32 bedrooms have been created by interior designer Vanessa Scoffier. Here’s a look at some of our favourite corners. Geometric shapes and colour patterns remind us of the contemporaty look&feel of Secondo Pensiero in Milan. Louis Vuitton’s incredible runway show in Rio de Janeiro
Niteroi’s Museum of Contemporary Art served as a backdrop for the presentation of its colourful 2017 Cruise collection. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, this ovni inspired building holds a very convenient red passage though which the models used as a runway. The sea and rocky Rio scenery completed this dreamland setting.
Springs home, and this year they’ve outdone themselves with this extraordinary setting full of contrast in Rio de Janeiro. Fashion extravaganza included an homnage to the soccer culture, with illustrations and icons adorning clothes and accesories. Flat-soled shoes, fine scarfs, bold colours and parachute-silk dresses and suits were other key trends.

Sneaker fever: brands to look out
If before it was the it-bag, now it’s the itsneaker. Sporty shoes have become a social symbol, a universal change of attitude (and style). But now that we’ve all gone through the white sneaker phase, now that even dad has embraced the the ‘hybrid shoe’ trend…is there anything new under the sun? Here’s a breeze of fresh air from some up-and-coming brands on our wish list for SS16. Mo:vel, the devoted to movement sneaker Mo:vel shoes made it straight into our hearts with their contemporary lines, extremely light construction (less that 250g each!) and simple yet sophisticated design. Their new collection is

1. Martin Parr’s food truck. Inspired in Martin Parr’s Real Food book, cooked by his chef daughter, along comes the Magnum photographer’s Real Food van. The kitsch caravan will be stationed on the River Terrace of Somerset House and will be offering all of Martin’s Phaidon books, as well as dishes inspired in them.

Other key talks and speakers include Erik Kessels, who will be talking about creative mistakes with fine-art photographers Joachim Schmidt and Lucas Blalock (Thursday 19 May) or photographic artist Garry Fabian Miller, who will be discussing ‘meaning and place’ with ceramicist Edmund de Waal. The Bunyadi, the world’s first nude restaurant It will open from June 2016 but it already has a waiting list of more than 4,000. Diners will be encouraged to disrobe and mobile phones and photographs will be banned. Designed by Lollipopup, the goal is for guests to “experience true liberation”. Its founder Seb Lyall explains.‘‘I think it will appeal to vegans and naturists from all over the UK. It won’t be a first date venue but certainly second dates and dinner with friends”.The specific location is still a mystery, but we do know it has space for forty-two people and dinner will cost around 60 per person.

Fantasy Pink Islands Installation in Miami
Now why would you turn an island pink fuchsia? And why not? Duo of land art artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude made this magnificent facility called Surrounded Islands in 1983. For two weeks, these eleven islands in Biscayne Bay, Miami, were surrounded by a pink polypropylene fuchsia belt. The message of this work of art? Underline the various ways in which the people of Miami live, between land and water. On May 4, 1983, with the help of 430 people, the crew began to blossom the pink fabric over the islands, which were tended day and night by 120 monitors in inflatable boats. 52

As with Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s previous art projects, Surrounded Islands was entirely financed by the artists, through the sale of preparatory drawings, collages, and early works. Calchemise Modern Man’s Onesie The just-got-out-of-bed look just got a little quirkier. It looks comfortable, it certainly makes a statement. The calchemise is the latest early-adopter trend in mensclothing...in France, at least. With more than 1300 likes in less than a month, will the calchemise become the new must-have in men’s wardrobes? Calchemise is the perfect combination of ‘caleçon’ - boxer shorts, and ‘chemise’ - shirt. This innovative onesie is already a success in France and plans to go worldwide. No more shirts draping out of trousers! The calchemise can be worn alone, as a statement piece, which is the most common trend in Paris, or with trousers, as a more classic shirt, which stays neatly in place.
The modern man’s onesie was created by a group of six friends, all of whom are engineers. The six Parisians began brainstorming in 2009 and today have a large range of designs for all tastes, all between €50 and €65. The Idea to harmoniously unite boxers and shirts arose from the problem men face when trying to keep a shirt tidily tucked in for the whole day, meeting after meeting. Calchemise has already tripled its sales objectives and new versions of it focus on altering the style of the collars and cuffs. The trend has been massive in France, but will it have as much success elsewhere around the world?

Christian Louboutin expands its Nudes Collection

“All women want longer legs”. It was in 2013 when Christian Louboutin decided to take this statement to the next level, launching the Nudes Collection, a range of skin tones that transformed Nude from a colour to a concept. This year, the best seller collection has expanded the line, adding two more shades and a delicate ballerina flat into the mix.
The Solasofia model is the latest addition to the family. This ballet pump with a pointed toe joins the Pigalle Follies 100 and the Senora 100, both of which are also available in seven shades of nude.
