Engineering

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are dependent on community transportation systems for mobility and access. WE BIKE is experienced in incorporating the unique wants and needs of pedestrians and bicyclists for both recreation and transportation. From trail design and assessments to sidewalks and onroad/off-road bicycle facility recommendations, WE BIKE’s Planning and Engineering Services will help integrate walking and bicycling for a safer and more sustainable community.

Pedestrian & Bicyclist Needs & Facilities Assessments (WB) WE BIKE has the ability to assess the specific needs of pedestrians and bicyclists in a community. WE BIKE’s professional assessment allows for the creation of recommendations for improving conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists which will be safe, cost effective and implementable within a reasonable timeframe. 

Education

Education is a powerful tool for increasing knowledge, improving skills and changing behavior. Through pedestrian, bicycle and motorist education, residents learn to share the road and gain confidence to commute to work and school, run errands and be active for enjoyment. Create a healthier, more livable community with education services like public service announcements, targeted education programs and outreach from WE BIKE. Teaching Safe Bicycling Workshops (WisDOT) Teaching Safe Bicycling (TSB) is an instructor’s course for professionals and advocates interested in teaching safe bicycling to children. Topics covered include: Understanding the Child Bicyclist, How Bicycle Crashes Happen, Hands-on Demonstration: Teaching Bike Safety to children, Bicycle Ride: Community’s Accommodations and Hazard Identification, Working Together Locally for Bike Safety Programs. http://dot.wi.gov/safety/vehicle/bicycle/ 

The seminar emphasis is on how to teach bicycle safety and skills so as to provide increased comfort and confidence for new and returning bicyclists and youth. The Seminar does not emphasize the content or specific details of the cycling course curricula. It is primarily about teaching, and each candidate will have opportunities during the seminar to practice facilitating parts of the Traffic Skills 101 curriculum, both in the classroom and in the parking lot. The seminar is normally one evening and two full days. Generally, 1/3 of the time is on-bike, so students should be prepared to ride. The registration fee is $300 and includes the seminar materials. https://www.bikeleague.org/content/become-instructor ď ś

 Bicycling Skills 123 Youth (LAB) Bicycling Skills 123 Youth is composed of 13 on-bike stations that teach children better bike handling skills. https://www.bikeleague.org/content/take-class

 Safe Routes to School (LAB) This program is designed to increase the safety of youth bicyclists and walkers, the number and frequency of children bicycling and walking, and improve the lives of children. The curriculum is divided into three levels. Each progressive level provides more in-depth learning and greater opportunity for students to practice and apply safety knowledge in real-life scenarios. Each level requires increased expertise, time, and resources to effectively implement. http://www.bikeleague.org/content/take-class

For this reason, WE BIKE has developed training specifically for motorists to help them identify and avoid, common mistakes that pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists make in traffic that lead to crashes.

Enforcement

Law enforcement officers don’t enforce laws that they don’t know and they don’t enforce laws that they can’t defend – yet they are the only ones who enforce laws - for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to improve safety. Officers come in contact with pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists on a daily basis, resulting in a unique position to assist with and add credibility to community efforts to encourage walking and bicycling, improving safety. Are your officers prepared to enforce for pedestrian and bicycle safety?

Continuum of Training in Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety for Law Enforcement (WB) WE BIKE, etc., LLC has developed a law enforcement training model with 

essential pedestrian and bicycle safety educational materials and multifaceted training through a planned succession of information, from basic to in-depth knowledge. This manner of delivery and level of content is the Continuum of Training in Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety for Law
