A Message From The Director There is no better place to be than Albuquerque. The Bosque is in its glory, the sky is filled with beautiful balloons, and children are laughing and cheering in parks. I am so proud to be part of this wonderful community and to be able to share with each of you our new Parks & Recreation Program Guide. Inside you will find information about sports, recreation, swimming pools, golf, open space, and cultural events. This comprehensive Guide is a one-stop-shop for park and recreation programs and resources specially made for you! The Guide will be published three times a year (August/December/April) so keep your eyes out for future publications. In the mean time I hope to see you out recreating!

Parks and Recreation Department OPen Space Upcoming Events Geocache event for National Public Lands Day on September 24 at the Route 66 Open Space. This event will be a "Cache in Trash Out" event which combines geocaching with a trash cleanup. Dia del Rio on October 15. This is a volunteer focused on the Rio Grande Bosque. We will be working with volunteers to build trails and cleanup trash.

About Open Space Division Open Space works to acquire and protect the natural character of land designated as major public Open Space in the 1988 revised City of Albuquerque Comprehensive Plan. These lands, which are more than 28,000 acres in and around Albuquerque, are managed to conserve natural and archaeological resources, provide opportunities for outdoor education, provide a place for high and low impact recreation, and define the edges of the urban environment. Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department patrol Open Space areas by foot, vehicle, horseback, and mountain bicycle. These fully commissioned law enforcement officers make contact with the public to educate and oversee compliance with rules and regulations. Their dual mission is to protect the Open Space lands and resources while ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit. In addition to these officers, Open Space lands are regularly monitored by volunteers, who are trained to observe and protect the natural characteristics of the environment.

Need More Information For a list of Open Space events for the remainder of the year. Join us at our webpage with the events at our Open Space Visitor Center: http://www.cabq.gov/openspace/calendarofevents.html
