SCIENCE BEHIND PURIFICATION USING LIGHT

Science

The science behind UV water treatment is remarkably simple. When biological organisms such as viruses, bacteria, pathogens, etc., are exposed to UV light, the proteins present on the cell wall ruptures and causes the death of the microorganism. This effect is further enhanced when cells stop replicating as genetic material (RNA and DNA), and form thymine dimers upon absorption of UV light.

Solar Radiation

Sunlight consists of a wide range of electromagnetic radiation. Particularly, this radiation includes ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light. Ultraviolet is subcategorized into UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C regions. Of all the ultraviolet radiations emitted by the sun, only 34% reach the earth. Of the UV radiation that reaches the earth, 95% consists of UVA, 5% consists of UVB, and 0% consists of UVC due to the earth's atmosphere absorbing all the harmful radiation.

How UV-C Purification Works

Over the years, several scientific studies show the effectiveness of UV light in treating various surfaces. Most recently, it has been found that UV-C light has maximum germicidal efficacy, which means that by using an extremely low power of UV-C light, one could treat a surface effectively.

CrazyCap uses this special region of light to achieve its maximum germicidal effect. Using low powered UV-C light offers great benefits in terms of safety and power consumption.
