Faculty Accomplishments The School of Business & Technology 2008-2009
The School of Business & Technology
Dean’s Message On July 20, 2009 we marked the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing and moonwalk. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin did what many considered impossible, that man could reach the moon, land and walk on the moon. It was the ultimate stretch goal that came to fruition. I have been thinking about what this means for the faculty of The School of Business & Technology at Webster University. What will be our moon goal? Can we dare to set such a goal and are we possessed of the audacity to accomplish it? Can we dare to set individual goals that will result in new discovery and scholarship? Please don’t misunderstand my conjecture; I am not espousing that we seek to be first in anything or that we gauge our success by claiming to be the very best. Instead, I am challenging each and every one of us to set a goal that will have a permanent impact on our discipline and our world; one that will not be limited to just being the first or merely the best in our area. Our moon goal should be directly motivated at being the best for the world. The 40th anniversary of the Apollo Mission validates the power of a stretch goal. It all began from the conception of a dream to the lofty delivery from a simple but delicate physics of a bird in flight to the extra-terrestrial marvel of Neil Armstrong who took one small step for himself and a giant leap for mankind. This begs the question; what is your moon goal? The 2008-2009 issue of faculty accomplishments is a collection of the research effort by faculty in The School of Business & Technology. It is by no means the end but an ongoing quest to reach beyond where we are and to bring reverence to our discipline. My Best, Benjamin Ola. Akande, PhD Dean, The School of Business & Technology Webster University
