These full face ski masks are also known as monkey caps in India mainly because of its color that resembles with earth. These masks are also available in many varieties like having pom pom at the top. It is mostly worn by Himalayan people as it protects their face from chilling winds and cold climate of that region. It is also used by military troops to hide their identity while doing some secret mission by SWAT and Special Forces personnel. Traditionally, these masks were knitted with wool. But now, some cool balaclavas masks are also made by silk, cotton, polypropylene, neoprene, acrylic and polar fleece. In 19th century, such masks were known as Uhlan cap or Tmplar cap.
