Fun Reasons For a Pre-Wedding Bridal Shoot 1) Decor Purposes If you take your bridals in enough time before the wedding, your photographer can edit and deliver them for you to print for reception welcome decor! (Tip: Have your coordinator place the portrait and cover it so no guests or your future spouse, lays eyes on them until after the ceremony. Then, your coordinator or decorator removes the cover before guests enter!)

2) Hair and Makeup Trial Runs If you booked a stylist that is doing both your hair and make up, what added fun to that trial that you get to put your dress on after and take photos! Its like a wedding day dress rehearsal!

3) Save photo time on your wedding day by doing Bridals in advance Your wedding day schedule will be jam packed enough between first looks, group shots, family photos and postceremony couple portraits of you as newlyweds. If you want to dedicate a special time for you to do bridals and not feel the pressure of the timeline and waiting guests, doing them before saves the time! WEDDINGSININDIANA.COM // 19

4) Memento Portraits from bridals can be a frozen in time memento. A forever bride-to-be image to share with your posterity.

5) Fun Times it's never a bad idea to have a fun, personal excuse to wear your wedding dress for more than one day. Look how much fun this beauty had for this shoot

Rakoteet Photography I N D I A N A P O L I S www.rakoteet.photography @rakoteet.photography

Award winnning and internationally published Indianapolis and desitnation wedding photographer

WII: What advice do you give to couples when beginning their photographer search?

MR: I believe that everyone deserves to have wedding photos that they are head over heels in love with, and there is a perfect photographer for every couple. Keep in mind that photographers' styles are pretty set in stone. Look for a photographer whose portfolio already matches exactly what you're looking for in your wedding photos. Can you imagine you and your fiance and your own wedding details in place of the couples in the photographer's photos? Would you want to hang those photos on your walls and pass them down for generations? Make sure you love their editing style, the way they light their images, AND their posing style. I completely understand that the search for a photographer can be overwhelming, but you'll find the perfect photographer just like you found the perfect life partner!

34 // WEDDINGSININDIANA.COM

WII: What do you find most inspiring when it comes to wedding photographs? MR: My couples' love for each other is the most inspiring thing when it comes to creating amazing wedding images for them. Each couple and love story is so unique, and each couple interacts and shows their love for each other in different ways. While I have my posing systems down and try to create consistency for my clients in order to deliver exactly what they expect, I love to tailor my posing, photos, an overall experience to each couple based on their personalities.

WII: How do you like to "break the ice" with your couples? MR: Engagement sessions are the perfect way to "break the ice" with my couples. It's a great opportunity to spend a couple hours getting to know each other. I love getting to experience how my couple interacts together, and they get to learn my posing and shooting style. By the time their wedding day comes along, they'll be old pro's, and they'll be so much more comfortable in front of my camera.

WII: Tell us about YOUR favorite wedding menu. JM: Our favorite Wedding Menu - Appetizers: Bacon wrapped dates, caprese salad skewers, shrimp cocktail (or shrimp taco bites for Mexican themes!), and a beautiful cheese board. Dinner: Herb marinated beef tenderloin, buttermilk mashed potatoes, whiskey glazed carrots, fresh garden salad and slow rise rolls.

WII: Do you specialize in certain cuisines? JM: We specialize in custom cuisine that is as unique as your event! We do offer several sample menus for our clients to choose from, and are happy to help inspire your menus during our initial consultation. This includes some great options such as, BBQ and Mexican to more elegant meals with beef tenderloin or rack of lamb as the stars. We understand how important this day is for our clients so we take special care in make your event elegant and an illustration of who you are. Whether that be including anything from custom ingredients to special menu items and themes, we are here to make your menu memorable

18

WII: What’s your most valuable piece of catering advice for Indiana wedding couples?

JM: We always encourage appetizers! They make a beautiful welcoming gesture to have when guests are arriving and start your event off on a sweet (or savory!) note. The more modern choice for weddings is to offer an appetizer intermission in between the ceremony and waiting for the bridal party to make their entrance. Whether you have some extra time during certain events or want to have a welcoming atmosphere when your guests arrive - appetizers are the perfect addition.

Ryan's young cousins were ther Rng Bearer and Flower Girls. Sarah's brother walked her down the aisle and her sister was the Maid Of Honor. Since most of their guests have never been to Mass at the Basilica, the couple wanted to bring in the choir—such an integral part of Mass. The food was nearly all gluten free, as Sarah has Celiacs Diease. They incorporated thier favorite foods—pizza in appetizer form; macaroons and cake as their desserts. The DJ kept the dance floor hyped and played all of their favorites all night, prompting crazy unplanned dances!

Couple's Best Advice

"We have some practical advice for couples still planning and waiting for their big day. First, invest your planning time into the ceremony instead of the reception. You want to remind guests why they have traveled all that way and it is truly to see you get married to the love of your life! Everything else is secondary and just a wonderful add on. Second, invest in the BEST photographer. Your dress, your florals, your tablescapes, your cake, etc. will ALL be gone or useless the day after your wedding. Your photos and your memories are literally the only thing you truly keep so invest and build your budget around it. Oh and if you need a suggestion for the best photog in the biz, Jason T Photography!" - Sarah & Ryan WEDDINGSININDIANA.COM // 47

Celebrations After a sweet ceremony, the couple and their 150 guests continued reception celebrations at Upland Columbus Pump House. Donuts, dancing and drinks, oh my! Being lovers of craft beer, both Lynda and Ian sipped on Campside Pale Ale throughout the evening surrounded by elegant homegrown pumpkins of white and green. Like a fluke summer night in the midst of fall time. (Which is exactly what Lynda wanted!) WEDDINGSININDIANA.COM // 53

Favorite Element After retiring from the Air Force, Ian still has a love of aviation. The couple often eat at Blackerby's Hangar 5 Restaurant, a restaurant in the Columbus Municipal Airport. Lynda got in touch with Brian, the contact at the airport, to arrange a surprise First Look on the tarmac. Little did she know that Brian had arranged for a Vintage Stearman Biplane to be pulled out for the First Look photos, A very special touch before walking down the aisle!

Favorite Element Katie and Oliver incorporated so many personal touches in their wedding decor. The images resonate to an outsider like reading the story of what brought them together for this celebration of love. Katie designed and created all the chalkboard art; the flower vases were vintage and thrifted by the Mother-Of-The-Bride, telling a story themselves! Handwritten escort cards written on library cards; book titles for table names; they tied in Chinese heritage red lanterns with gorgeous pops of flowers and vintage red chairs. Excerpts from their favorite books were included in their ceremony and vows. We personally love how they incorporated a "Mirror of Erised" for a ceremony backdrop!

Having all that love in one space is sure to bring some spectacular blooms next year." Needless to say, we are SO looking forward to seeing flowers grown in love from The Klocs in the future!
