VEG & NON VEG .....After Kammanahalli and Kalyan Nagar…Kasturi Nagar is the next buzzword. Located to the east of NGEF, Kasturi Nagar is a prominent residential layout, with well laid out parks sandwiched between the quiet environs. Planned by BDA, this locality is slowly emerging as the best place to live in. With closer proximity to ORR and Old Madras Road/Indiranagar/Marathahalli and Whitefield…Kasturi Nagar has definitely turned into a hotspot! .....As you stroll down from the Channasandra Main Road towards Kasturinagar Main Road, on your left you find Café Coffee Day, Seven Days Supermarket,

store that sells CD’s, Gifts and Hair Graph- a salon for men. .....Krithika Mani, resident of Kasturi Nagar is happy with the development in the area. “Two years ago, shops were a rarity in this area. We had to travel to Banaswadi or Kammanahalli for purchases. But, now things have changed. There are many supermarkets that have come up in the area that cater to the needs of the residents in the area. The traffic on the main road has also considerably increased.”

Master Minds This new column provides a platform for ‘local’ entrepreneurs in our neighborhoods whose ingenuity and innovation has made/making a difference in our daily lives…A first person account! The person: Sundar Nadimpalli The innovation: A Safety harness (Strap) for small kids (2 to 7 years) to prevent them from falling off from two-wheelers The product: Zine Zoomerz ‘Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower’ – Steve Jobs, Co-Founder, Apple The Seed: From my young days, I had a passion for automobiles. Having completed my M.Sc. (Automobile Engg.) from Bangalore University, I started my professional career. The passion for doing something on my own spurred me on. In fact, I used to discuss with my friends on various projects/ideas. After a 5- year hiatus…that day came last year!

Purity...... in every drop!

Only Rs.35/-

The Spark: Actually, I have to owe it my sister…rather my nephew! One day the little guy was about to fall from a two-wheeler… though he had held on to my sister! She had to maneuver many a pothole to drop the kid to school and invariably this kid used to fall asleep, in spite of holding on to his mother. That and another accident which I saw (a kid fell off the scooter and hurt itself badly when the mother crossed over a speed breaker) was the ‘spark’!

Free Door Delivery

The Product: I discussed with my friends and then this idea of a Safety Harness came. It is a simple idea. There are TWO straps that are stitched together. One for the Adult and the other for the Kid! All that the adult needs to do is to fasten the strap on one end and the other to the kid. The kid could either be in the front or back. For the kid, for additional safety…there are these shoulder straps!

Concerned about your CHILD's SAFETY? brings you

Zine Zoomerz A simple yet elegant device to ensure the safety of your child when riding with you on a two-wheeler

To book CLASSIFIEDS / DISPLAY ADS The Technology: These are basically cloth straps which are stitched according to the design. I give the size/length/design. As of now, these are being made manually. Once, we get volumes…the entire process would be automated. Though, this product is yet to be certified by ISI…I am finding out to patent/get it certified by a registered govt. body. The Name: Zine Zoomerz…well my company is called Nu-Dzine meaning new ideas and Zoomerz…you can zoom without any tension with this product!

Trends

Smart & Sassy…

K Ramya ramsdom@gmail.com

Ramya looks at the recent trend of how tech-savvy Bangloreans’ are lapping the latest smart phones …and the spiraling demand for them in this IT City! a ‘working class hero’ squeezing every bit it has to offer, value for money.

soon!), 65K+ color capacitive displays, multitouch and QWERTY keypads loads of applications ranging from flight trackers, grocery shopping helpers to music editors, and you have a phone that’s smart (but never seems to be enough for some!).

.....Being street-smart is also about how smart your phone is. This year has seen a slew of Android, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Windows, Linux and Palm operating system-based phones and less of the average cell phones - testimony to the increasing demand of fully loaded mobiles with user-need-based Operating Systems. Business, gaming, networking, organizing, shopping - it’s almost an OS and a phone for every need.

.....The demand for smart phones is spiraling. The OS apart, mobile companies have been customizing these platforms to make the experience ultimate and unique and making sure they fit snugly into pockets. Sony, with their recent X10 series, has struck that big chord with many of its users. Says, Akshay, a happy owner of Xperia X10, “The RAM is not enough, but the speed, integration and presentation in the phone is awesome. The phone doesn’t crash with even 20 apps in the background. The custom UI brings out the best out of Android.”

.....There can’t be an end to any of this; smart phones will only keep getting smarter. It’s just about you figuring out how smart you want to be!

.....Increasing number of college students are turning to Blackberries – with their IRC (internet relay chat) channel being an instant hit within friend communities. The HTC touch series and the Samsung Corby’s are being clear winners with the ‘looking-out, but completely content with this’ crowds. Prices suit every budget, and it really is about how much you are willing to pay what you want. .....Nothing is, however, ever enough for this discerning world. New features will constantly hit these phones. There are people who are going to be complacent and use mobiles for nothing more than calls and texts. And it isn’t a guarantee that the OScrazy flock will use everything at their disposal consistently – which may turn out to be a disaster eventually. But, the bottom-line seems to be any or all of these: show-off your phone, make your phone

.....The question looming large is how close a phone can get between two individuals. That precisely seems the basis for mobile OS developers who have been churning out new versions every few months. A snappy processor, 5MP (and more) cameras (some have a front camera for video calls as well), integration of social networking sites (almost common place now), 3G compatible (4G is going to be out

The mobile OS version competition: • Symbian 9 • Android 2.1 (2.2, Froyo mobiles release later this year) • BlackBerry OS 6.0 • Palm 1.4.1 • Linux Maemo • iOS 4.0 (that came with the recent launch of the snazzy iPhone 4, making it the crème of the lot)

Smell ‘n’ tell! Take a deep breath! According to a new study, partners can read each others’ emotions by just smelling their sweat…

wedlistings@gmail.com wedschools@gmail.com

.....Couples who are close to one another can actually detect each other’s feelings of fear, happiness and sexual arousal, says Rice University psychologist Denise Chen. To reach the conclusion, Chen and her team looked at 20 heterosexual couples who had been living together for between one and seven years. .....As volunteers viewed videos meant to induce self-reported feelings of happiness, fear and sexual arousal, underarm pads collected their sweat. Then the participants smelled odors from four jars that held the sweat from their partner or a stranger of the opposite sex, and tried to name one smell that came from a person who was experiencing a particular feeling. .....One jar held sweat that was collected during a video meant to induce particular emotions. The other jars contained perspiration that had been collected during a neutral video. Nearly two-thirds of the time, participants could pick up the specific emotions from their partner’s body odor, and couples who had lived together the longest were best at homing in on each other’s emotional odors, the study found. .....The accuracy rate dropped to 50% for opposite-sex strangers. There was little difference in the couples’ ability to identify odors linked to fear, happiness or sexual arousal. CMYK

Bethamangala Bethamangala, a serene water-body near Kolar is what B V Prakash, an accomplished travel writer and Mountaineer, suggests visiting during the weekend…

.....Bethamangala is a primitive town in Kolar district. Like other towns it presents a dry and dusty outlook. But if one explores a little deeper one can find a beautiful lake surrounded by lush grasslands. Located in Bangarpet Taluk this township situated on the left bank of river Palar had its own importance in yesteryears, particularly during colonial times. The river Palar which was perennial then had a copious flow of water and this artificial lake was formed to supply drinking water to the surrounding villages. But in course of time the river

lost its life with failed monsoons and became dry. .....Luckily owing to frequent rainfalls the lake has once again come alive with a vast body of water. Being quiet and serene with a lot of greenery around this is now an ideal destination for those willing to take a break from the city. At around 100 kms from Bangalore this is good for a daytrip. .....The antiquity of the place can be seen from the colonial architecture of the buildings here. The

lovely guest house was probably built in 1865 as per Bangarpet is 95 kms. Bangarpet can also be the marking of a tile. Added to all this is the rich reached by bus/train from where mofussil buses go greenery of the lawns and trees. Naturally a lot of to Bethamangala. Carry your own food & water. birds have found home here and one can feel their presence in cool mornings. The many stone benches and green grass offer plenty of space to relax. Bethamangala also has a few temples like the Vijayaranga, Hanuman, Gangamma and Aiyappa. .....Getting there: Reaching Bangarpet (77km) via Hoskote (26km), Malur (20km) & Tekal (18km) take B V Prakash the KGF road & proceed for 18 kms. via Kolar, bv.prakash@yahoo.com
