Ably supported by her entrepreneur husband Mr.Ganesh and her in-laws, the humble doctor whose home is close by to her clinic is available at any time for dental emergencies. Raaga Dental CARE in its' present avatar is a spacious specialty clinic equipped with ultramodern facilities and several dental surgeons pay regular visits. AVATHI B V Prakash, an avid mountaineer and trekker talks about a small village quite close to the city which has many legends to its' credit apart from being an idyllic getaway‌ changes to a place of quietness, in spite of the adjacent highway! As you drive past Devanahalli for about 8 kms on the road to the left of the flyover the busy village of Avathi is reached.

Close from the city of Bengaluru is a historical place in a natural setting! This is Avathi hillock right beside the highway NH 7 a little further after Devanahalli. Driving towards Bellary as the road goes over a flyover this tiny hillock is easily missed. If at all seen, it is dismissed as yet another boulder. The hill is not tall and huge. The town through which it has to be approached is also dusty and unattractive. But once the hill is climbed the atmosphere

The attention is drawn to the statue of the bust of a ruler almost on the road. This belongs to Ranabhaire Gowda, a chieftain of the Kempegowda lineage, who ruled here during 14th century. He was a feudatory chief of Vijayanagar kingdom and the one who founded the principality of Avathi. Hailing from a place near Kancheepuram (present day Tamil Nadu called Morasunadu) Ranabhaire Gowda and his followers were wandering in the area of what is Avathi today and found this to be a suitable place to live and rule. He happened to stumble upon a fortune and according to a dream he had, he built the temple of Channakeshava in the village. He also constructed a small fort on the hillock and lived there. In course of time the fort was ruined and the place abandoned.

minutes a flat area is reached. Here on the left, is a small statue of Veera Kempamma, said to be sister of Ranabhairegowda and also a brave lady. The path to the right goes up to the top which is marked a large boulder with a Kannada flag. Below the rock is gap in the rock. The view of the highway and the town is quite good.

Walking towards west from the hill top you can see an oval shaped huge boulder sitting on a tiny base precariously. This is called Hittina Bande or Hittina Gundu. The path leads down westwards to

a tiny shrine of Kanikalamma. The rock near the place has oozing water said to be a spring. According to legend, whenever the rainfall has fails, worshipping here by spinsters would immediately get rains. This spot has some shade and a cool breeze and is suitable for relaxation. A narrow mud road connects this spot directly to the Main road.

Getting there: Drive on NH 7 to Devanahalli and go for 8 kms further. Leave the flyover and take the left to the village from where the hillock can be climbed. Food and water are to be carried.
