F.R.I.E.N.D.S. comes to Jal Vayu Vihar, Kammanahalli! the various merchandise/products that were made by persons with different abilities (Physically/Visually/Intellectually) belonging to different organizations.

Yes! Not the famous sitcom nor its’ charming cast….but a ‘Shopping Outlet’ that is a noble initiative by a group of passionate individuals of Jal Vayu Vihar, Kammanahalli! ‘FRIENDS OUTLET’ as it is called was inaugurated on Monday (28th Feb 2011) and was an instant hit with residents who lapped up

Says, Wg. Cdr. Thomas Verghese (Retd.), Coordinator of this project “This is part of CSR of our community (Jal Vayu Vihar). We are a group of 28 individuals who will be volunteering to ensure that this project takes off and in the bargain provide a decent livelihood to these differently abled people”

pockets and has taken a shop on a rental basis! Based on a pure business model, this shopping outlet will essentially market items made by differently abled persons apart from ecofriendly stationery items such as hand-made envelopes, re-cycled merchandise, knickknacks etc., Differently abled persons would be handling all the sales / marketing under the watchful eyes of TWO volunteers (from the group of 28) who would assist them, if necessary. The outlet which will be open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm (ALL DAYS) will work on a shift basis!

Adds the genial Wg.Cdr. “This socio-economic initiative of us can be taken up by anyone and is workable in apartment complexes where a small kiosk could be set up for these differently abled persons wherein they could sell their wares and make a living”. This is being supported by NGO’s like Spastic Society of Karnataka (SSK), The Association of People with Disabilities (APD), and Parents Association for Persons with Cerebral Palsy and Allied Disorders (PAPCP).
