Neighborhood

Meet the 'Guardian Angel' of our neighborhood! (?) As I walk on the beautiful courtyard leading to the main house in Kalyan Nagar…my 'rational' mind is fighting! Angel Cards; playing cards; something to do with Christianity; ghosts and angels (?); magic; another trick…the door opens and a beautiful 'angel'(!) says “Please come! I am the 'angel' you were looking for!” …meet Mrs. Revathy Krishna Kumar aka REVA, a 'professional' angel card reader! Before I could open my mouth…Reva starts off! “Angel Cards provide us with angelic guidance for all our life-problems. Every one of us has a Guardian Angel. Also, GOD has sent many angels to help and guide people with their problems! When you 'listen' to their 'guidance' and act accordingly…your 'problems' are likely to be solved!” What? Angels solve our day-to-day problems! Ma'am! You must be kidding! And then, the guardian angel (Mrs. Reva) takes over! Being an Angel Card Reader and Therapist, Reva has been practicing this 'healing therapy' for over 1 ½ years to many of her friends and clients. She has undergone training under Ms. Doreen Virtue (California based Clairvoyant and Spiritual Healer) whom she considers her 'guru'. She follows her 'guru's system of angel card reading which are referred as Archangel Oracle Cards.

There are several card decks that are kept in front of you. You can pick one deck or many depending on your question. (For e.g.: Romance, Health, Wealth, Daily guidance etc,). She then takes the cards from the deck and shuffles them…Depending on the 'problem' one or many cards fallout from her hands! (This she says…angels 'tell' her to 'pick'!) Each card is taken and read for (interprets) what it means and says. Each 'deck' has a manual wherein, the entire guidance is listed. And finally, she sumps up the whole reading with a 'solution'. It could be visiting a doctor or a therapist or buying crystals or counseling sessions… She adds “As I draw the cards, read their meanings and tune in to any thoughts, impressions, feelings, and / or visions…I am 'transported' into 'different' world! The angels do the talking and I simply keep quiet”! Still my 'rational' brain isn't satisfied! Ma'am will you do a reading for me? Pat comes the reply! “Why not? Not one…but two”. She 'insists' that I pick up the 'Romance' deck first…..reels off the readings which are as close to reality! Bewildered…she goes again! Another deck (about various projects of Jupiter Ventures, publishers of Wednesday Digest Newspaper) bang on! She surely 'made my day'! Now…my 'emotional' brain takes over! “Isn't she RIGHT?”…as she goes on to 'read' and 'guide' my colleague's problems/questions…”it works” affirms my brain; but 'how'?? Want to give it a try? So…have I met my 'guardian angel'? Certainly not! (Reva says she will tell me in the next session) BUT…if she can be the 'guardian angel' of our neighborhood and 'guide' us to deal with several issues…will it not be a GOD-SEND? Watch this space… NOTE: Mrs. Reva conducts Card readings for small parties, kitty parties and for corporate houses apart from individuals. Each card-reading session is chargeable. There are Hindu gods and goddesses too who offer guidance. Angel card reading is not related to any particular faith. She can also be reached at Leo Energy Studio, Kammanahalli Main Road (6547 4654) AVS Srinivasa, avs77@yahoo.com Ms. Revathy (Ph: 99863 25677) you can catch her on Facebook too!

'Yoga Acharya' Sunitaji explains in detail about the twisting postures in Yoga and in particular the 'spinal twists' and its' benefits in this revealing article…

Spinal twists in Yoga

Join on or before Vijayadasami Day Call us: 2545 2253 89715 03635 / 88619 81749

Spinal twists in yoga increase flexibility, flush toxins and calm the mind. Twists are postures that rotate the spine rather than bend the spine forward or backward. People who should not practice the spinal twist are people who are pregnant, have a spinal injury or have chronic back, neck or knee injury.

Achievers Academy Kalyan Nagar

3 BHK for LEASE @ HRBR 3rd Block

Living Legend of Yoga BKS Iyengar describes twists as a "squeeze-and-soak" action; the organs are compressed during a twist, pushing out blood filled with metabolic by-products and toxins. When we release the twist…fresh blood flows in carrying oxygen and the building blocks for tissue healing. So from the physiological standpoint, twists stimulate circulation and have a cleansing and refreshing effect on the torso organs and associated glands.

Twisting poses are the postures in which we rotate the torso along the vertical of the spine. Moving in this way has many benefits, both physical and non-physical. Twisting postures can be gentle and restorative, deep & invigorating. Regardless, all twists have a great deal to teach us about our bodies, our breath, and our unconscious preferences and should be included as a part of every practice (Marichyasana, Bharadvajasana, Arthamastyendrasana, Jataraparivrithasana, Thiryak Trikonasana and so on)

1200 sft 1st floor with room on terrace Separate corridor / Entrance

There are two important things to remember when embarking on a twist. The first is our sense of foundation. Our bodies cannot twist in one direction without also having some counterweight and foundation to hold us in place in the opposite direction. In each twist, identify which parts of your body can supply you with this sense of grounding. The support we get from below helps to propel us up and out – like a launching pad.

Christians Only. Brokers excuse

Call: 94481 43904

The second important thing to remember is to maintain a long, tall spine. It is much easier to start off with a tall spine and move gradually into the twist than the other way around. Spinal twists strengthen the back while also improving range of motion. Keeping your spine upright helps access and energize the spinal muscles, so be sure to avoid the all-too-familiar slouch! In fact, the minor backaches that can come from too much sitting and slouching are nicely remedied with a few gentle twists. Moving into a twist, the abdominal organs are gradually compressed and contracted. As you come back to center, the organs are allowed to release again. This process, especially when evenly balanced with twists to both the right and left sides, is stimulating and cleansing for the organs. The abdominal area is home to the primary organs of digestion and elimination, both of which can be addressed through the use of twists. Sluggish digestion and constipation are especially responsive to twisting postures.

The twists also give our breath and our bodies' valuable experience with working together. Traditionally, the inhale is used as an opportunity to lengthen and straighten the spine, while the exhale is an opportunity to soften and rotate more deeply. Ideally, a twisting posture balances the strength needed to support a straight spine with the flexibility needed to rotate. This flexibility is not just physical. As we rotate around, we must also be willing to change our vantage point on the world… seeing and recognizing the world around us, beside us, behind us. A twisting pose should be energized without force. As with any relationship, your spine will respond better to loving support and encouragement than it will to brute force. You will most likely observe differences when you twist to the right versus when you twist to the left. This can be the result of strength imbalances (especially due to right-side or left-side preferences), injuries, or just plain old genetics. Observing your body's unintentional preferences, abilities, and weaknesses is an important step toward bringing your physical body closer into balance. It is also an important step toward observing the unintentional preferences, abilities, and weaknesses that we carry with us into our emotional and mental activities.

in Chocolate Making Baking and Desserts

Twisting from side to side, turning our gaze from in-front-of-us to behind-us and rotating our body around the axis of our spine… the twisting postures bring us into balance. In this way, the twists are incredibly cohesive and balancing postures. They bring all our various aspects together for a quiet conversation, out of which friendly and familiar relations can emerge. Om Tat Sat… Note: Hatha yoga should be practiced under qualified professional guidance only

Travel B V Prakash, an accomplished travel writer and mountaineer takes us this weekend to Muthyala Maduvu (aka Pearl Valley), a serene and scenic outpost off Bangalore… Just at around 45 km only from the city one can easily escape the city beat and enjoy a cool surrounding with lots of green! This is the familiar spot of Muthyala Maduvu in Anekal taluk of Bangalore rural district. It is also popular by the name 'Pearl Valley'! The highlight of the place is a tiny waterfall dropping into a wooded valley amidst a sparse jungle. It is said that the drops of water used to look like pearls and hence the name.

Muthyala Maduvu pleasant stretch! In spite of many tourists one can still find a place of quietude deep in the valley or little higher on the slopes. As you reach the parking area you will be greeted by parking ticket collectors as also a few monkeys! If you are carrying

foodstuff…take care! Also, the restaurant (Hotel Mayura) run by KSTDC provide good food and beverages. They even have a few decent rooms in case you wish to stay and enjoy more of the place. The steps lead down to the valley where the

trickle of the fall can be seen on the left. At right is a simple temple with a number of snake idols. The path goes further and ends at a small pool. For the adventurous, there are several paths going up the slope to get a better view. Remember the climb back to the top is a bit exhausting. Because of frequent visitors the place has been littered here and there. On higher slopes it is much better. Back at the top a new park is being developed and there are plans to have a musical fountain shortly.

Long time ago, when Bangalore was still not crowded and had not grown into the outskirts Anekal the nearest village itself was pristine. And hordes of picnickers used to frequent the place on holidays and weekends. The waterfall also was more lively and the forest thicker. The rain water and the overflowing water from the numerous lakes contributed for its volume and it was as good as any other waterfall. But the building of check dams for irrigation has reduced the waterfall to what it is today.

Getting there: Take the Bannerghatta Road from the city and drive beyond Bannerghatta to Anekal (40 kms). After 38 kms as you pass by a large lake on right, a narrow road with a rusted board goes to right leading to Muthyala Maduvu (6 kms away) After 3 kms turn right at the petrol bunk and drive further for another 3 kms. One can also drive from Silk board junction to Chandapura and then take the Anekal Road.

Monsoon is the best time to visit. But thankfully the valley and the forest have retained some of the beauty still which makes it worthwhile to visit. The drive from Bangalore via Bannerghatta to Anekal may not be that interesting but the last three kms before the valley is a
