Campus Corner ‘Teachers Resource Centre’ at CMR – Centre for Collaboration and Innovation WEDNESDAY DIGEST wraps up the first part of the series of articles about CMR Group of Institutions (that is a cornerstone of neighborhood concept) with an insight into ‘innovations’; namely Teachers Resource Centre and Life Skills Training Centre at all CMR Group of Institutions…
Background:
Ms. Tristha Ramamurthy, Vice President, CMR Groups of Institutions being a Stanford Alumnus is the key person to have envisaged a centre on the lines of the West wherein teachers are encouraged to collaborate and innovate…new ideas, methods and teaching aids to equip students’ with better skills and knowledge…to excel in academics.
The Centre: Started first at CMR National Public School, this has now spread to all group institutions. Basically, a facility offered to teachers/faculty to conduct research on their individual subjects of expertise…either online or offline (various exchange programs) at their free time at school/college. Each institution has a separate room with all facilities (hi-speed internet/journals – both manuscript and digital) wherein the teacher delves into his/her subject of interest and learns/understands the nuances, advances which is then collaborated, discussed and analyzed for its’ utility to students’. Being motivated by the Principal, teachers then corroborate their learning and review with their peers weekly and a formal review is undertaken at the end of the month with the Principal as to what information (How’s & Why’s) the students’ have be taught. Explains, K C Ramamurthy, IPS, IG of Police (Retd.), Chairman of the Group “TRC is based on the concept of students’ welfare/academic excellence wherein teachers spend sufficient time upgrading their existing skills/learning”.
‘Love to Read’ Program:
A particular teacher (unwilling to be named) of CMR NPS who is an avid reader…has taken upon herself to come out with a

Adds, K C Ramamurthy, Chairman of the Group “TRC/FDP (faculty Development Program) are new ones in our Group. We have commenced it at the School/Engg college/Management College…In a few months time; this will be integrated at all Group Institutions”.
Life Skills Training Centre
This again is an in-house centre! With 1500 faculty spread across several institutions…the concept of this centre is to harness their combined knowledge/individual brilliance to impart Students’ with cross-subject knowledge and Life Skills in general to take on the world…once the Student graduates from CMR Group. unique program titled LTR (Love to Read). She has done extensive research on the subject and has come out with a framework document on the subject. In fact, this is a comprehensive research based document to improve reading in schools. This program is aimed at making students’ enjoy reading from playing with words to interaction with the language…through sessions like reading classes/story-telling sessions. In fact, the document is being processed by her peers with several inputs and will be taken up in a big way across all the Group institutions shortly.
Faculty Development Programs: This is an offshoot of the TRC…where faculties at all CMR Group Institutions upgrade their skills/degrees independently as well as interact with their counterparts from other institutions.
For e.g. Students who are pursuing commerce are being taught the various facets of IT or for those who pursue Engineering are taught Commerce / Trade / Business to enable them to become a complete knowledge individual…once he/she steps into the corporate world. This Centre which was started in the current academic year has witnessed an outstanding Says, Tristha Ramamurthy, Vice President, “We at CMR participation from both students/staff…wherein the encourage our faculties to innovate and be updated with classes are integrated into the time-table according to each institution’s convenience. the latest and this TRC is a focal centre for that”. at CMR…in which teachers/faculties from other parts of the country gather to discuss threadbare various teaching methods/tools and its’ implementation for academic excellence…Teachers’ with exceptional abilities are also deputed to other schools/universities to motivate their community to innovate!
(The next series of articles would discuss about the PG programs of various CMR Group Institutions…to give the senior scholar who is a Teacher/Educator from NIE most comprehensive coverage about the CMR Group – a (National Institute of Education, Singapore) is working on cut & keep trove!) a mega-project with Art teachers at CMR NPS…Her mission is to teach Art teachers how to teach Art to For further details contact Students’. This group of teachers is involved in Ms. Hema: formulating an art curriculum for the school.

‘Road-Kings’ of Bengaluru… K Ramya, rides a ‘bike’ literally to report the latest trend of youth in this Hi-Tec city on modifying their ‘machines’ (Bikes/Cars) into (personal) fashion statements! maxing out on performance. Some even customize vehicles to make them environment friendly. Akshay, who recently got a K&N filter installed in his car, says, “These intake filters are cotton gauzed and help the engine breathe better by pulling in a lot more air than usual. I’ve also been getting a better mileage since I got the K&N.”
Whoever said a few dashing stickers F o r s o m e i t ’ s a b o u t and graffiti is enough to make bikes and personalization! Making their
cars look sporty. An increasing number of youngsters in the city have taken to indulging in vehicles a tad too seriously. One is sure to spot a bike or car modification center, with jangling motoring tools and accessories, tucked away in a nondescript street in and around Kammanahalli, HRBR or Banaswadi. Needless to say you’d find a flock of biking and driving enthusiasts discussing, upgrading and doing up their machines.
Gauging what the car or bike is capable of and pushing it to its limits is what they swear by. The limits could, quite literally, be anything. The focus has shifted from making a fashion statement to CMYK

personality on the roads is a mantra that’s fast catching on. The mushrooming of vehicle upgrading centers all around our localities stands testimony. The more you spend, the more you get!!!
To sum up, it all seems to boil down to
Checklist: • A paint job involving changing vinyl stickers and using decals • Changing the air filters to help engines get more air • Get a free flowing exhaust to reduce the back pressure in a vehicle • Iridium spark plugs • Low profile tires and spinners on the rims to prevent skids & for a chic look • Ported light weight pistons for better engine response • Real or art leather for a plush interior • Mini-theatre with multiple screens, astute audio & video systems.

with a few houses, cut off from the busy Bellary road. At a distance of about 100 kms from Bangalore, this place can be reached driving up to Bagepalli and going left for 10 kms. The town is so primitive…one can easily miss albeit frequent enquiries! But the drive along the dense forest on either side makes the going itself enjoyable.
At Yellodu, look out for the colorful tower of a temple on left. In fact the town is known for the famed Adilakshmi Narayanaswami temple. Perched on a

For more adventurous,
it is worthwhile climbing up few steps behind the temple to a vast land of grass and rocky boulders. It is worth the effort because of the amazing views it offers in every direction! To the north a high hill with a fingerlike protrusion with a shallow pool of water affords a breathtaking view. At the base, of the hill are a temple and a play area for children. The road side shacks sell tender coconuts and cucumbers.
