“I’ve only had 9 pints” - said drink driver

n a week that has seen some spectacular car crashes across the county, a Clackmannanshire man was banned from driving for 18 months after ‘totalling’ his car at Muirside roundabout in Tullibody back in April after being three times over the limit.

Stephen Brown (24) appeared in Alloa Sheriff court yesterday (Monday) charged with careless, and inconsiderate, driving (Road Traffic Act 1988 S3) and driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit (Road Traffic Act 1988 S5(1)(A)). The court heard how on the evening of 14th April 2012 witnesses were heading towards Glenochil Village when they noticed a red car travelling at speed towards them, approaching the Muirside roundabout. It was also stated how their vehicle was struck by a traffic cone caused by Brown’s car hurling past at speed. When they stopped to check their vehicle for damage they noticed Brown’s red BLIND COMPAN car on its roof at the ALLOA Y roundabout. When the Police arrived at the scene of Domestic & Commercial the accident, Brown The Only Blind Company was still in his car upside-down, held in You Need To Call by his seatbelt. Pictured is the aftermath of a road traffic accident that happened in Menstrie last Friday. A witness said they heard tyre screeching followed by a very loud bang. More worrying is this happened just one street away from Menstrie Primary school. The driver would need to have been travelling at some speed to cause this amount of damage. car and when Police quizzed him over whether or not he had been drinking, the 24 year old replied: “I’ve only had 9 pints.” Upon further quizzing of

this, Brown then changed his tune to state that he had been out the night before and had consumed 9 pints, and on the evening of the accident had only consumed

a pint of Fosters, a can of lager and some Sambuca! The court heard how Brown had planned a night out in Stirling with a friend and once that night out

had fallen through, he was reluctant to leave his car in Sauchie over fears it may be stolen, so he decided to drive it to Tullibody. continued on page 10

Puzzles with crossword competition,

weecounty LETTERS Dear weecounty I was reading the article about Alloa Library being moved and I think that it is a great idea. The Speirs Centre is an old building with a lot of character and in my head a library is normally in a building like that and I think that moving it was the right choice. This building has a lot going for it and having the library inside it and the interior all done up it really does make a different and that means now the old library can be used for something very useful that we need in our high street. Jim, Alloa Dear weecounty

Finally!! Justice is

being done. There are a lot of cases that you hear about where the sentences are light for offences and the criminals are needing harsher punishments but it is great to see someone get the comeuppance. To hear that the drunk driver has been banned for two years is brilliant, making our roas one step closer to become safer because idiot drivers like that are not on the road. It is about time somone pays for their actions properly and this is just great to hear. Susan, Tullibody Dear weecounty It is great to see our community try to save the environment and improving in our

recycling. Although the thought of more bins may have been annoying and initially thought of as a waste of money it is great to know that they are actually serving a purpose. Helping the environment is important and is something that should be take seriously so for our community to be doing well in such a thing it is great to see. and use their brains, making them stronger for returning back to school and it is also something different to do over the long summer. It would be great if there was more good causes like this and they served and did a great job helping young ones. More could still be done though

Using the back road myself along with many people it is frustrating to have to double back on yourself just to miss the bridge out although at the end of the day it will make the bridge safer and that is the main thing.

David, Sachie

The front page story last week was very good and very eye catching. While I was reading it it really got me on the edge of my seat before I had read what had happened. To have the scene off all the vehicles being commented as a replica of the film proves it looked very effetcive.

Dear weecounty Having the bridge shut off at the railway station in Alloa has really been frustrating. The path that is being used in the diversion is not practical as it needs one up and re-laid the same as the last one and to hear that more work is on the way this looks to be a continual problem for a while.

‘I will shoot you from close range between the eyes’ Prisoner sends letter to his partner

D

aniel Carr appeared from custody at Alloa Sheriff court yesterday (Monday) charged with threatening or abusive behavour (Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 S38(1)). The court heard how Carr, who is currently serving a prison sentence, started sending threatening and abusive letters to his former

partner. It was stated that the content of the letters included: “I don’t think its acceptable to grass”, “I wont stop until I get my revenge”, “I will shoot you from close range between the eyes’. Further statements from the fiscal detailed the intent

of Carr saying that further letters were sent that included variations on killing his partner. “There is a bullet here with your name on it’ and ‘Time is flying by for me but ticking by for you’. It is believed that Carr’s

actions started over arguments with his former partner over matters regarding his 4 children. That relationship has now ended. Carr admitted that he acted in a stupid manner and that what he did was wrong. The Sheriff deferred sentencing for Carr for 6months to allow a Criminal Justice Social Work report to be carried out.

MP supports Subpostmasters campaign to keep DVLA and other services

G

ordon Banks, MP for Ochil and South Perthshire has received a batch of 150 cards from members of the public in the Dollar area who are backing the National Federation of Postmasters (NFSP) campaign to ensure that the DVLA contract and other vital central and local government services remain with the Post Office. Subpostmasters across the UK are asking their customers to support the Post Office by sending the cards to their MP asking them to write to Transport Secretary Justine Greening, urging her to support the Post Office’s

bid to retain the DVLA contract and also Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude, asking him to support their efforts to win new government work. The DVLA’s contract with the Post Office for ‘front office services’ expires in March 2013. In July the DVLA announced the phased closure of its 39 regional offices and said it aimed to provide face-to-face services through a network of 6,000 outlets and has put DVLA services, including car tax renewals out to tender. There are fears that many Post Offices across the country will not survive if they

fail to win the contract. The Department of Transport is expected to announce their decision in September. Gordon Banks MP said; “Post Offices are hugely important as they provide vital services to local people and are a trusted brand across the UK and in Ochil and South Perthshire with more branches across the country than other banks and building societies combined. A useful point to note also is that the number of post offices in the UK also significantly outweighs the number of all our major supermarket outlets which puts the size of the network into some perspective. The Coalition Government should be working to expand the range of services and commercial activities at Post Offices to ensure their longterm survival in our communities. If the Post Office does not retain the DVLA contract it will surely spell closure for many, many branches. I can assure everyone that has responded to this campaign that I will indeed be writing to the government to raise our deep concerns for the future of Post Offices in Ochil and South Perthshire. Furthermore I believe it is vital that our local authorities in Clackmannanshire and Perth and Kinross deliver a programme of expanding access to services and facilities from and to our

local communities through the post office network.”

Mood swinging husband assaults wife A n Alloa man charged with domestic assault plead guilty to the charge the court heard this week. Gordon Wilson appeared at Alloa Sheriff court charged with domestic assault after an incident that happened on 21st July. The court heard how Wilson had a condition that caused mini strokes, which had an impact on his moods, causing severe mood swings. The complainer, his wife had returned to their home on

looking to go out for the day. Wilson refused to go out and changed his mood, becoming argumentative. He stated that he was leaving the family home and was taking one of the family dogs – despite the protests from the complainer. Wilson then proceeded to try and take one of the dogs and then pushed his wife over causing her some injury. Despite his previous convictions for assault, Sheriff Mackie imposed a fine of £90 on Wilson.

Local Artists raise over £2,000 for cancer charities

P

rominent local artists who are members of Central Arts Association, have a wide selection of paintings on display at their “Ongoing” Charity Exhibition in Blossoms Coffee Shop/ Bistro in Torwood Garden Centre, Central Park, Bellsdyke Road, Larbert. The owners of Torwood Garden Centre, the Stevenson family, have kindly provided an exhibition area in their Blossoms Coffee Shop/Bistro for the artists to display their paintings. The Stevenson family are very generously donating their charge of 20% commission on the sale of each painting to MacMillan Cancer Support and Strathcarron Hospice. So far over £2,000 has been raised for the two charities from the commission charged on painting sales. To mark this achievement, Central Arts recently invited Jim McColl MBE the long-serving gardening expert and Presenter of the BBC series The Beechgrove Garden to the garden centre to present cheques for £500 to representatives from each charity, Coleena Brodie - Community Fundraiser for Strathcarron Hospice and Dudley Booth - Chairman of MacMillan Cancer Support Stirling Branch. Central Arts made a previous presentation of the first £1,000

paintings, prints and photographs in mainly traditional style. Including a mixture of local scenes, wildlife, floral, beach scenes and Scottish landscapes in a variety of mediums. New paintings are being introduced to this “Ongoing” exhibition regularly. The Blossoms Coffee Shop/ Bistro is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays. The garden centre is open until 5.30pm everyday so the exhibition can still be viewed after the Blossoms Coffee Shop/Bistro closes at 5pm. Central Arts is an entirely voluntary and non-profit mak-

ing association of artists. Their membership covers a wide area including Fife, Perth, Kinross, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Clackmannanshire and Stirlingshire. They are also staging an “Ongoing” exhibition of framed paintings & prints, hand made jewellery, hand painted silk scarf’s and hand made cards for all occasions in “The Tipsy Nipper Restaurant Gallery at Fife Airport, Goatmilk, Glenrothes. In November they will be staging a 3 month exhibition in “The Gallery”, at G R McFarlane, Watchmaker & Jewellers, 41 Mill Street, Alloa. www.centralarts.co.uk

Family firm programme to be launched in Clackmannanshire C

lackmannanshire Council are set to launch a scheme aimed at getting young people who have been in local authority care into work. The Council’s Housing Health and Care Committee last week gave the go-ahead to the introduction of the Clackmannanshire Family Firm Programme, which has been piloted elsewhere and has been cited

by Scottish Government as an example of good practice. The intention of the programme is to provide dedicated assistance to young people who are looked after by the Council at the point of leaving school and who have not been successful in getting work. The programme aims to target young people aged 17-years-old and over.

Housing, Health and Care Committee Convenor, Councillor Les Sharp, said: “This programme is not aimed to act in any way as a distraction to the existing programmes available to young people as they leave school, such as Activity Agreements and National Training Programmes, but should act as both a safety net and progression route for slightly older

young people.” The aim is to select seven or eight young people with the hope that at least five will continue through to the full-time placement. The programme aims to improve the employability of young people through a phased programme of confidence building, training, work based activity and ongoing support.

Stirling Castle by Liz Allen

Mellon Udrigle Beach by Maggie Bowie Councillor Sharp added: “For young people who progress through the early phases successfully this would see them get a full-time work placement within the Council of at least three months.” Information events will take place through the Opportunities for All network and after the selection process there will be a three to four week induction programme, carried out on a part-time basis to ensure youngsters understand what is on offer, what is expected of them and the support they will receive. After that there will be a four week part-time Placement

Induction when the young people selected will get the opportunity to get settled into their placement and make sure they are happy to continue on to a full-time arrangement. During the first three stages the young people will remain on benefits and will need to continue to meet job seeking conditions. But once they reach stage four they will become employees of the Council to enable them to break-down any financial worries they had of taking part in the scheme. It is expected it will take up to six months to progress young people from selection to completion of their placement.

NEW HEAD TEACHER ARRIVES AT ALVA ACADEMY

A

new term and a new head teacher as Sharee MacKerron began this week her new position as Head Teacher of Alva Academy, succeeding John Meney, who retired at the end of the last term. The new head teacher was welcomed to the school by Clackmannanshire Council’s Convenor of Education, Councillor Ellen Forson. Councillor Forson said: “It is with the greatest of pleasure that I welcome Sharee to the school. She brings with her a wealth of experience in teaching, both north and south of the border, as well as having worked previously in rural communities. “I am sure that she will prove to be a very capable successor to Mr Meney and continue to take Alva Academy forward.” Sharee, 53, originally from Auchterarder, Perthshire, began her 23-year teaching career as a chemistry teacher in Northallerton Grammar School in North Yorkshire. From there she moved to Stokesley School, also in North Yorkshire, as an assistant head of sixth form. After that she enjoyed a spell at Egglescliffe School in Stocktonon-Tees as head of sixth form before returning to North Yorkshire as assistant head teacher at Thirsk School. Her career continued to move upwards when she was promoted to Deputy

Head Teacher at Billingham School in Stockton-on-Tees, where she spent three years, before returning to her native Scotland and to Perth Academy, also as Depute Head Teacher. Following that Sharee, an MSc BSc in Chemistry and NPQH, was appointed Senior Depute Head Teacher at Broughton High School, Edinburgh, where she has been for the past three years, including spending a term as Acting Head Teacher. She succeeds John Meney as Head Teacher at Alva Academy, John having retired at the end of June at the end of last term. Sharee, who arrived at the school this week, after a smooth, well organised and efficient handover, said: “Having been in the school over the summer I believe that I have come to a very good school and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with as very strong and committed staff at Alva Academy. “Results have improved tremendously in recent years and the school offers first class care and support to young people. “I am looking to build upon the work of Mr Meney, the previous Rector, in order to continue to move the school forward. Altogether I believe we can make this a reality through effective partnership with the parents, the staff and the

wider community. “These are indeed exciting times in school as we continue to implement Curriculum for Excellence.” Sharee is clearly focussed with a map for the future of all who have an involvement with Alva Academy. She added: “I want to make aspirations for the young people, the teachers and the parents, become a reality. “My ambition is that every young person derives the maximum benefit from the highest quality educational experience possible so not only do they achieve the very best they are capable of but that they also take with them life-long learning skills, confidence, will power and goal setting abilities into the future. “In essence the young people will leave Alva Academy as, thoughtful people equipped to play an effective role in our global society and their local community. “Being a Head Teacher of a school is a great privilege and I am looking forward to the challenges and rewards that go with it. The message I have given to staff is that we are good, but we can always get better.” Outside of teaching Sharee is a keen jogger and has successfully completed both the Stockholm and London Marathons, at the same time fund-raising for charity. She has also run numerous half-

303 mile cycle ends at The Inn

marathons, including the Great North Run from Gateshead to Newcastle. Sharee added: “Hill walking is another of my favourite pursuits. I also enjoy visits to the Lake District. Keswick is one of my favourite areas, in particular the spectacular views from the summit of

Catbells “For relaxation I also enjoy travelling, reading and listening to music.” Mother of two, her children Briana, 30, and Graham, 28, have also carved out successful careers. Briana has a pharmacy degree from Nottingham

University and is working as a Team Leader within Sunderland Hospital, while Graham, who recently graduated from Glasgow University as a doctor of engineering, is presently working with Selex in Edinburgh.

Long Term Childcare - Making Progress

C

ouncillors last week were given a full update on the progress following an independent review of Clackmannanshire Council’s Long Term Childcare Team which was completed in late April. The review was commissioned by Chief Executive Elaine McPherson after concerns were raised by a sheriff in June 2011. A comprehensive draft action plan was put before a Special meeting of the Council in June 2012. Housing, Health and Care Committee Convenor, Councillor Les Sharp, said: “Social Services will strive to address the areas for recommendation and work is already well underway.” The first of what will be regular progress reports by Head of Social Services, Deirdre Cilliers, was tabled before the Housing, Health and Care Committee.

Councillor Sharp added: “The greatest challenge for the service is the operational teams achieving real change. A successful outcome will involve a change in performance. Considerable effort has been invested to support this over recent months. “Areas of greatest risk and priority were identified and ‘quick wins’ were achieved where possible. There has been a notable investment in staffing. The additional staffing, although not fully in place yet, will give the service the capacity it has needed for some time to respond to the high level of demand in the Child Care Service.” Front line staff have had additional communication and information sessions and regular development

events to support key area of practice. A number of major changes have been implemented since the Review in April, particularly Child Protection, ensuring support for staff and that they are appropriately trained. All childcare services in Clackmannanshire will undertake the Public Service Improvement Framework assessment this autumn. In addition the Council are fully focussed on the need to work closely with external scrutiny bodies and key partners to support improvement and provide reassurances both internally and to the Council. The Council’s assistant Heads of Service will hold regular meetings with solicitors who have ongoing

Councillor Sharp added: “The service faces a considerable challenge in achieving real and sustainable change but it committed to working in partnership with stakeholders to achieve the improvements required.” The Council’s new Resource and Audit Committee, set up under the new administration of, will also provide both monitoring, and a scrutiny role, to give extra assurances that this should never happen again. The court heard how Dean Dalglish, John Tallis, Euan Birrell, David Nicol, Michael Ward and Alan Watt caused havoc on the evening of 27th March 2012. The team attended a party in Devonway, Clackmannan with intent to cause trouble after it was reported that Dalglish’s younger brother had returned from the party claiming he had been assaulted. At the party, the parents answered the door advising the group that they were not welcome and should leave, only for them to head to the adjacent lane to the property. The father (Mr Clark) then

went outside to ask the group again to leave as they were not welcome, accompanied by his wife. The court heard how Birrell then headbutted Mr Clark and how Tallis pushed and started shouting and swearing at Mrs Clark. It was told how Mr Clark also tripped and fell, breaking his ankle in the process. The ordeal was described as a ‘harrowing time’ for the Clark family. It was told by the defence that Birell felt corned by Mr Clark and the only course of action he could think of was to headbutt him. All six plead guilty to their charge and were handed fines of £150 with the exception of Birrell who was given a £300 fine. Sheriff Mackie said: “You formed a group with intent.”

G

ordon Banks, MP for Ochil and South Perthshire has condemned energy company SSE’s shock plans to increase electricity and gas prices by 9% on October 15th 2012. The increase will affect 5 million electricity and 3.4 million gas customers and will mean a rise of more than £100 pa on an SSE standard dual fuel bill. SSE’s CEO Ian Marchant said the increases were “regrettable but unavoidable”, blaming them on the rising costs in wholesale markets and using the National Grid Network. Gordon Banks MP said; “This is yet another blow for cash-strapped families and pensioners in Clackmannanshire who are

auchie Tower has been announced as one of eight historic buildings around the country which this week were awarded a total of £2 million in grants to carry out essential repair and restoration works. The money is from the latest round of Scottish Government monies in the shape of Historic Scotland’s Building Grants. Sauchie Tower, which is owned by Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust, is supported by Clackmannanshire Council Councillor Donald Balsillie, the council’s representative board member on the Heritage Trust, said: “This is a tremendous boost and both the Trust and Clackmannanshire Council welcome the grant and support from the Scottish Government. “It will ensure that essential repair and restoration work can be carried out to a high standard and ensure that such a historic and important building in our county can be reused and enjoyed by many people for generations to

come.” Sauchie Tower, considered to be an outstanding example of a large, early 15th century tower house, was awarded £278,448, with the money to be used to complete the restoration of the historic building. It was built by Sir James Schaw, governor of Stirling Castle and a member of one of the more influential families in Medieval Scotland in the early 1400s. The tower complex includes an outer wall, cobbled courtyard and large hall with kitchen and bread oven. The west courtyard wall was partly remodelled c1490, to include gunholes and corner tower. In 1631 this was incorporated into Sauchie House, built by Alexander Schaw, who was knighted in 1633 by Charles I. In c1710 the family moved to their new mansion of Schawpark. A cottage was built against the south end of Sauchie House. The tower roof fell in c1858 and the corner turrets and gables collapsed

already struggling to make ends meet and are no doubt dreading the winter fuel bills. The government’s energy bill has had no effect on reforming the energy market and the energy giants are still calling the shots with their price increases and complex tariffs. Just a short time ago we had Scottish Gas talking price hikes, now we have SSE, who have seen increased profits, making this announcement. The Coalition Government must act to stem the flow before the other companies follow suit. We are in a doubledip recession and this is the last thing vulnerable customers need. This is further proof that this Government is completely out of touch with everyday reality for millions in the UK.”

c1890. Sauchie House was demolished in 1930 and the cottage soon afterwards. Sauchie Tower is owned by Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust, which has begun a programme of repair and conservation. The Friends of Sauchie Tower were established to support the restoration of the tower. The group was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to carry out the project entitled Sauchie Tower and its Environs. It included an excavation by Addyman Associates and enthusiastic local volunteers which greatly increased knowledge of the site. Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust and the Friends hope to complete the excavation of the site, finish the restoration of Sauchie Tower and conserve the ruins of Sauchie House and the surrounding landscape. And with this grant from the Scottish Government, it appears they are well on their way to achieving that aim.

By Court Reporter breaking the regulations regarding having such device. The fiscal reported that at 17:45 on the 29th February, prison staff at Glenochil found an exceptionally high reading outside Dykers cell. Once they entered his cell they found Dyker sitting

on his bed using a mobile phone. Dyker told the court that he had learned that his girlfriend who was 20 weeks pregnant with his child had just been stabbed – and he was calling to make sure that she was ok.

Dyker also claimed that he did not own the phone and had in fact borrowed it. Sheriff Mackie acknowledged that Dyker had been punished for his actions whilst in Glenochil, and handed out a 30 day concurrent jail sentence.

Energy efficiency Opening more doors initiatives given cash boost

C

lackmannanshire residents are already feeling the heat, after a £3.5 million energy efficiency programme aimed at improving warmth around the house and at the same time slashing fuel bills. Almost 700 homes around the county will benefit from the Council’s energy efficiency initiatives since works began. The works being carried out are only available in areas of Clackmannanshire identified as CESP areas - Community Energy Saving Programme. Housing Committee Convenor, Councillor Les Sharp, said: “There will be significant savings to the Council as a result of these works being carried out and the millions of pounds worth of investment. They will also be of major benefit to the tenants immediately in terms of the reduction of fuel costs and energy bills. “The Council has a clear commitment to energy efficiency and various projects are already underway around the county. Maximising energy efficiency and targeting fuel

poverty is something which has been highlighted as a major priority for this Council. “This is a one-off opportunity and one, which it is believed, is unlikely to be repeated.” Thermal overcladding at Carseview, Tullibody, began in the third week of July with a programme to be completed by December. A massive 221 homes, 110 Council properties and 111 private houses at Carseview, are being thermally insulated over the next five months. The £2 million expenditure for these projects has been 100 per cent grant funded. The thermal overcladding has also been offered to private homes at no cost to either the owners or the Council. This year alone the Council has contracts currently being carried out to upgrade 250 gas central heating systems, including electric to gas installations. Vice Convenor of Housing, Provost Tina Murphy, said: “We have been waiting for many years for new central heating installations to come to Carseview and it will be good news for all our

homeowners for many years to come with reduced heating bills.” In addition at Bowmar, Alloa, the programme to over clad 170 houses and install new central heating systems will be completed by the end of the year. Central heating upgrade works began in June by and the start of August more than 140 systems have been upgraded and contracts are in place to complete the work by the end of the year. A further review has since identified a further 97 homes in Clackmannanshire that require upgrading and are eligible for grant funding. Councillor Sharp added: “It was initially planned to carry out works on 600 inefficient gas and electric centrally heated properties.” Last Thursday, the Housing Committee provisionally approved £200,000 to be brought forward from the energy efficiency funding in the 2013/14 budget, the council’s contribution to the works making best use of available grant funding.

Rev. Mary Henderson was guest speaker at a “Pimm’s and Puddings” afternoon at Dollar Academy last week. She told the group lots of amusing stories about her exploits when learning the

art of Belly Dancing and afterwards persuaded some “volunteers” to take part. All this was in a very good cause as Opening More Doors was raising money for Action for Children, to help fund its

Clackmannanshire projects. The photograph shows Mary being thanked by Kit Gow chairman of Opening More Doors. For any further information please contact Kit Gow 01259 217511

Shoplifter refused bail G raham Lindsay appeared at Alloa court accused of stealing cleaning products from the Coop in Alloa. Lindsay is believed to have left the store with a bag full of cleaning products. Staff at the Co-op then

watched back the CCTV to see Lindsay fill a carrier bag with the products off the shelf. Lindsay was later arrested for shop lifting and the stolen goods were never recovered. The court heard that Lindsay is currently serving a community payback order

and did not know why he stole the goods. Sheriff Mackie refused bail for Lindsay, opting to keep him in custody until he is due to appear in court on the 6th September for another matter. He said: “You will be remanded in custody, there are no excuses for your actions.”

It was also told that the reason Brown ploughed into the roundabout was because he was ‘changing a CD’ in his car. The defence pushed Sheriff Mackie on sending Brown on a drink driving course but he was having none of it. He said to Brown who plead

guilty to both charges: “It must have been obvious to you that you were over the limit. Being three times over the limit is quite troubling.” Sheriff Mackie then handed out an 18-month ban to Brown and fined him a total of £750 in relation to both charges.

Your Horoscope Predictions

Out & about with Michelle Henderson

Music Review

By Anne Smith Aries (21 March - 20 April) Your emotions are confusing you this week xxxx

and it is not a time to make concrete decisions! There is someone around you who could be trying to hide something from you but not for long, as it comes to the fore and could leave you reeling from the reality of what you have heard, this revelation allows you to change your attitude and to push forward with plans you had on the back burner.

Taurus (21 April - 21 May) xxxxxxxxx As the sun moves into your sister sign of Virgo on the 24th you feel a real buzz of excitement around and you get on top of all the small details that have been holding you back! There may be strong opposition from people surrounding you now but you will use you straight talking, no nonsense approach and tell them what you really think!

Gemini (22 May - 21 June)

Libra (24 Sept - 23 Oct) A situation around you may be xxxxxxxxxx revealed with startling clarity around the work area of your life and it may require balance on your part to help you asses this revelation, however remember the Universe always has a plan and new places and people may be just what you need! Scorpio

(24 Oct - 22 Nov) From the mouths of babes, listen xxxxxxxx carefully to the young people around you as you may be surprised! Your emotional life has been going well of late and things continue on the same thread however remember that the grass is not always greener on the other side and actions speak louder than words!

Sagittarius (23 Nov - 21 Dec)

It is a month to listen to those older and xxxx wiser, you have been toying with the idea of a career change for a while now, so what is holding you back? Some of you may hear news from overseas which will bring a flutter to your heart and a smile on your face. From the 24th you will take that overdue look at your life and make assessments on how to move forward.

Facing reality is sometimes difficult but xx when we face up to our situations then we are able to do something to correct unwanted behaviours, the work front has been trying your patients of late but there are new avenues and contracts or legal papers to be dealt with this month. With Mars move into Scorpio just tread carefully and remember diplomacy.

Cancer (22 June - 23 July)

Too many road’s too many choices, this xxxxxxxxx month brings in change and courage to make decisions which will affect your own personal happiness. Long term financial goals and future stability emotional are your main objectives, your commutative skills are stronger than they have been for a long time so use this time wisely and clear some space.

Leo (24 July - 23 Aug)

As the Sun left your sign on the 24th you have xxxxxxxxx felt a shift in energy patterns around you and it almost feels like a new year beginning and a new you. Time to make long term plans for the next 12 months starting with your finances, get them in order now and it will stand you in good stead for the rest of the year. Romantically remember on word “partnership” and if you can incorporate this into your love life then this too will be a success!

Virgo (24 Aug - 23 Sept) xxxxxxxxx The sun enters your sign on the 24th of August and you feel it like a breath of fresh air, a lighter and more positive feeling is yours now, however with Neptune meeting the sun in your sign you have to stick to facts and fantasy might try to creep in, try to keep it real.

Capricorn (22 Dec - 20 Jan)

One xxxxxthing a Capricorn does not like, and it is drama, will this month you better be prepared as drama is coming an you are the one who will need to deal with it and its results, you are a private person and the fact that all this drama is in public view may cause you stress, try to keep calm and be diplomatic and use that sense of humour to get you through!

Aquarius (21 Jan - 19 Feb) Fact rather than fiction are the key xxxxxxx words and actions for you this month and if you can express yourself in an open and honest way without elaboration then it will be a productive month, it is also a good time to allow your fantasies or artistic creativities free! Pisces (20 Feb - 20 Mar)

xxxxxxxxxx There is an air of putting a difficult situation behind you, if you are strong and determined new opportunities to learn for the future will appear in your direction, wither it is work or college. Education or new learning is strongly favoured this month so don’t be frightened to try new things, you may even enjoy it, try to put relationships back in order too.

n the charts this year there has been a lot or great tunes out that have made summer bright and cheery despite the bad weather. Various songs are new and have not been fully released yet but are available to listen to on the internet. One new song that is due to be released is a song named, “U Know it Aint

Love” and this song was produced by R.J and Pitbull. Both these artists have made strong, popular songs in the past but in my opinion this is their best song so far. The collaboration was excellent and fits fantastically well. In my opinion best song this summer. Another song that was released this summer and

he Annual Flower Show took place in the Coronation Hall on Saturday, August 25. The show was opened by the Lord Lieutenant Rt. Hon. Sir George Reid accompanied by his wife who presented the prizes to this years worthy winners. The show was very supported in all classes, with a super display of flowers and vegetables which a ???? after such dreadful weather – well done gardeners – the children’s section was well worth seeing with lots of colour, paintings and models and miniature

gardens. The committee would like to thank everyone who helped on the day – The judges that give up their Saturday mornings to come to Muckhart, they do a grand job. Thanks to the exhibitors, with out you we have no show. Thank you for all your efforts and to the ladies in the kitchen for providing afternoon teas, a big thanks to you. It is all of you together that help to make such a happy, successful Muckhart Flower Show. We look forward to seeing you all again next

Film Review

O

ver the years there has been a lot of good films that have been in cinemas all of very different genres. On Friday and new release is being broadcast for the first time and in my opinion is set to be a hit. The film is called The Possession and does not really have big main stream actors playing the characters which gives

the film a new lease of life and makes it original. The film is a brand new horror and after watching the trailers online and reading about it, the film became really appealing to me as it looks to have lots of action and drama in each intense scene. The film is based on a true story and the main idea surrounds this box. After the girl purchases

the box, which has a Hebrew inscription on the lid and tries to prize it open, she starts to turn very different and violent towards her family, but due to a recent family split the family do not really notice her being different. Eventually her family notices but is it too late to find out what is wrong and how to save their daughter?

This film looks very chilling but brilliant entertainment for people who are fans of horrors and from the trailer it looks like it may become film of the year.

Subaru announces price cut and power hike for WRX STI by Wee County Motoring Reporter

W

ith the September new registration rush just around the corner, Subaru UK has announced a mouth-watering price offer on its high-performance WRX STI model of just £26,995. At this price, the WRX STI becomes one of the performance car bargains currently available in the UK. An additional finance offer means the STI can be financed at under £300 a month. At the same time, Subaru UK has created a further engine upgrade for the STI so that customers can create a new high-performance All-Wheel Drive flagship, the WRX STI 340R. The new 340R power upgrade, which adds £1,599 to the price, is available alongside the 320R (with 320 ps and 450 Nm) which was first launched to market last year. Both the 340R and 320R power upgrades can be applied retroactively without affecting a car’s warranty. Available immediately, the WRX STI 340R boasts 340 ps and 490 Nm of torque - substantial increases of 40 ps and 83 Nm over the standard WRX STI - making the 340R one of the fastest point-to-point cars on the road. The 340R power upgrade features different ECU settings to allow the 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed, four-cylinder Boxer engine to produce more power, while airflow has improved as a result of a new exhaust system, which also provides drivers with a thrilling soundtrack and the iconic Subaru burble. The 340R will accelerate

from standstill to 60mph in just 4.7 seconds, an improvement of 0.5 seconds over the standard WRX STI. There is also even stronger in-gear acceleration as a result of the improved torque. As with other WRX STI models, the 340R benefits from Subaru’s advanced All-Wheel Drive technology, Torsen rear differential, fully-independent front and rear suspension and fourdoor saloon practicality. “The 340R power upgrade turns our most performance-oriented model into one of the most rapid and charismatic cars available in the UK,” said Darren James, Managing Director of Subaru UK. “The WRX STI was already an exciting car, but improved power and torque, as well as the unmistakeable Subaru exhaust note, make the car even more tempting. weecounty property Owning IS cheaper than renting The property rental market is growing as would-be homeowners face higher

and higher hurdles to get their foot on the first rung of the ladder. But a new study has revealed that buying beats renting by almost £200,000 over a lifetime. The research shows the cost of owning a home rather than renting is £194,000 lower over a lifetime, with mortgage and maintenance costs totalling £429,000 over 50 years compared to £623,000 in rent. And that’s without including the value of the home you’ll own at the end of it!Initially, being a tenant is often cheaper than buying as mortgage repayments tend to be higher than rental costs, but rents inflate over time. The home buyer also Glucosamine 1,000mg has one-off financial hurdles, such as the Glucosamine is one of the UK’s most popular supplements and is taken by millions of deposit, stamp duty people on a daily basis. this increases the advantage of owning over renting to £595,000.Over a 50-year span, roughly half of the cost of occupying your own home comes in the form of mortgage payments - £210,000 out of the £429,000. Two fifths of that £210,000 is interest while the rest is capital repayment. The next largest outlay is maintenance at £170,000. The initial deposit is the next biggest bill, while insurance, stamp duty and other initial costs make up the rest.Of course, figures vary enormously from region to region owing to the differences in rents and house prices across the UK.For example, in London buying a typical home would save the owner £396,000 compared to renting it over 50 years.By contrast, the advantage in the South West is very small - just £34,000 - because rents are unusually cheap relative to house prices. The North West has the second lowest property prices in the country but has high rents so the advantage of owning over renting there is the second highest in the country at £300,000.Andy Gray, Head of Mortgages at Barclays which carried out the study, says: “The cost of stepping on or moving up the housing ladder

can be a big barrier for many, but the long term benefits hugely exceed the initial expense.”Not only will you save money by becoming an owner occupier, but you will also own a substantial asset once your mortgage is paid off, providing financial security for your old age. Those who choose to rent permanently will have to pay their landlord out of their pension income, while owneroccupiers will enjoy minimal housing costs.”Many parents

have already realised the return from buying their homes and want to give their children this important step towards independence, but they cannot afford to provide them with the deposit to buy their first home or trade up.”Barclays Family Affordability Plan allows parent and child to pool resources and secure a larger loan, thereby helping generate much greater wealth and security for the child stepping on or up the property ladder.”Barclays’ new

Both incomes are used to calculate the mortgage amount and the scheme is available across all mortgage rates, including NewBuy.

EQUESTRIAN

HIGH-OCTANE ACTION AT FEI WORLD VAULTING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LE MANS

T

he FEI World Vaulting Championships 2012, which were held in the horse sport centre Boulerie Jump in Le Mans, France (15-19 August) attracted a field of more than 150 athletes, 50 lungers and 56 horses from 17 nations. The Championships saw vaulters compete over five demanding days for squad and individual titles (male and female), as well as the top spot for the Pasde-Deux, which was introduced for the first time this year in a World Championship. 18-year drought The excitement was high-octane in the Le Mans arena on the final day of the Championships as two squads had a realistic chance of winning the title: Voltige Lütisburg from Switzerland and Germany’s RSV Neuss-Grimlinghausen squad. After scoring 7.77 for an amazing performance in the compulsory, the Swiss squad – coached and lunged by Monika WinklerBischofberger – had established a comfortable lead of nearly 0.2 points. After the two following freestyle rounds they cantered to victory on their horse Will Be Good. The win put an end to an 18year drought on the world stage. It was the first Swiss victory at the World Championships since 1994, when they won gold at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ in The Hague (NED), although they did claim the European title at the 2001 Championships in Poznan, (POL). The final results were a great surprise for Winkler-Bischofberger, a member of the 1994 Swisssquad, and for German coach and lunger Jessica Schmitz, also a former German squad member. The pair have been good friends for many years. “Our horse was amazing. All my vaulters were ready for that challenge,” Winkler-Bischofberger said with tears in her eyes after the prize giving ceremony. Since 2009 her squad from the Swiss canton of St Gallen has been a favourite at the Championships, but never reached the one big goal to collect gold. “We have improved a lot the last years and I think we deserved this title,” the 36-year-old coach said. The first freestyle was won by Germany by a narrow margin, but in the final round the eventual gold medallists Lütisburg scored slightly higher for their choreography. On average both squads had nearly the same results in freestyle. Helma Schwarzmann (GER), one of the eight judges, was impressed by both squads: “These two squads have totally different styles, but they are nearly at the same high level. Lütisburg is more athletic, Neuss more artistic. The difference was in the basics of the compulsory,” she said. Switzerland’s winning total was 8,424. Germany secured silver on Arkansas with 8,346 points and host country France secured bronze with 8,006 points on Watriano, lunged by Fabrice Holzberger.

Fourth title in a row In the female competition Britain’s Joanne Eccles was in a class of her own. The only time the British title defender wasn’t in the top spot was in the compulsory test at the start of the Championships. Both freestyle rounds and also the technical test were dominated by the 23-year old Scot, who showed a fantastic high level routine accompanied by the Enigma song “Turnaround”. Eccles has been unbeaten since April 2010. With her fourth title in a row she is now level with Germany’s Tanja Benedetto who was the top female vaulter at all championships between 1994 and 1997. Only two ladies in vaulting history – Nadia Zülow (GER/6) and Silke Bernhard (GER/5) – have collected more titles. Eccles, a recently qualified dentist, was thrilled with her success. “Some years ago my aim was to win a medal. Now I’ve been able to stay at the top for four years”, she said. On her 18-year-old W H Bentley, lunged by her father John Eccles, she will be bidding to stay at the top of her sport for some time to come. And it seems highly likely that she will do exactly that. In Le Mans she won with 8,499 points, well clear of her nearest rivals. Silver medallist Rikke Laumann from Denmark scored 8,179 on Ghost Alfarvad Z (lunger: Lasse Kristensen), while bronze went to Germany’s Sarah Kay with 8,078 points on Calvador (Andreas Bäßler). A sublime moment occurred in the first freestyle round when Austria’s 17-year-old Lisa Wild surprised the audience with an acrobatic element never before seen in competition. She did a backflip off the horse’s back and then landed back on the horse. The judges rewarded her with second place for her incredible routine, but unfortunately she was injured when she fell off the horse in the final and was not able to end the freestyle as planned. Favourite for the title The male competition developed into a tussle between the French local hero Nicolas Andreani (FRA) and Erik Oese (GER). Oese, a new shining star on his Championship debut, won the third round technical test by 0,2 points and had the chance to beat the 2009 European Champion and favourite for the World title. But freestyle specialist Andreani had absolutely no weak points in his last routine to earn 9,089 points – the highest score of the whole Championship – to claim his first World title. “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet”, he said, directly after the score was shown on the screen. The 28-year-old said it was like a home game for him. “It seemed to be the

French Championship as I ran into the circle.” The 2012 title was a big goal for Andreani, but certainly not his last one. He plans to defend it in 2014 at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Normandie. In Le Mans he had to change to the horse Just A Kiss, because his regular partner Idefix de Braize was injured. In 2014 he wants to compete on Idefix, which is his own horse. “To become world champion together with him, that is my big aim,” he said. Andreani scored 8,515 points, followed by Oese on Calvador (lunger: Andreas Bäßler) with 8,415. “It has been a fantastic Championship for me. I felt so confident during my freestyle. Unbelievable,” the 24-year-old Oese said. Third place also went to France with 8,199 for Ivan Nousse on Carlos (Elke Shelp Lensing). Historical Pas-de-Deux Austria’s Lukas Wacha was unlucky to finish just out of the individual medals in fourth place a mere 0.06 points behind Nousse, but the 25-year-old vaulter had reason to celebrate when clinching gold in the Pas-de-Deux. Lukas and his 17-year-old team mate Jasmin Lindner made history as the first FEI World Vaulting Champions in this new discipline with two nearly perfect rounds, finishing with a point score of 8.775 on Elliot, lunged by Klaus Haidacher. And it was a historic win for Austria too as it was the country’s first World title in vaulting. Great Britain’s Joanne and Hannah Eccles secured silver with 8,556 points on W H Bentley, again lunged by their father John Eccles, and bronze went to Megan Benjamin and Blake Dahlgren from the United States of America, who were competing on Jarl (lunger: Lasse Kristensen). Joanne retains title

J

oanne Eccles successfully retained her World individual female vaulting champion title in Le Mans, France this weekend, with Joanne alongside sister Hannah also winning Silver in the Pas De Deux. Showing her consistency Joanne led throughout the four rounds of her individual female class and won by a comfortable margin rarely seen at championships (nearly 0.5), finishing on 8.499. Rikki Laumann from Denmark finished 2nd, and in 3rd was Sarah Kay from Germany. Joanne was vaulting on her own WH Bentley, lunged by her father John Eccles; this was Bentleys 50th international competition. The win takes Joanne’s winning streak to 4 consecutive championships, now being double European (2009, 2011) and double World champion (2010).

Joanne’s younger sister, Hannah Eccles, also impressed to finish in 8th place, also on WH Bentley; this was her first top ten placing at a World Championships, whilst Lucy Phillips finished 16th on her own Pitucelli. In the Pas de Deux competition the Eccles sisters went on to win Silver, in a very closely fought class, with the top 6 pairs all producing an extremely high level of vaulting. The two favourites from USA finished in 3rd and 4th but it was an Austrian pair, L. Wacha and J. Lindner, that took the top honours. The Eccles sisters produced a very smooth fluent routine on WH Bentley, to finish second, adding to the Silver medal they won at the European Championships last year. After a difficult first freestyle performed in 35 degree heat, the British senior squad (Lydia

Barham, Paige Brown, Sara Shortland, Staphanie Hunter, William Jenkins and Jessica Haynes) went on to produce a smooth and clean routine in the second round to finish in 8th place with their horse Go For Gold, lunged by Julie Newell.

ATHLETICS

Scottish Age Group Championships Grangemouth, 25/26 August

I

t was a Golden weekend for Central Athletics Club at the Scottish Age Group Championships at Grangemouth with a huge tally of 9 golds and 20 medals won in all, highlight being the Super Sunday where Central AC owned the podium taking 7 Gold Medals along with many silver and bronzes in the space of a few hours. Star of the day was Dunblane teenager, Daniel Polatajko who showed he is the Usain Bolt of Scottish Junior athletics storming to the sprint double in the under 16 boys age group to win the 100m in 11.82s then following this up with the 200m gold in 23.78s. These times were both personal bests and particularly impressive considering the stiff headwind on the day. Just like Bolt, Daniel got off to a slow start in both races before powering through in the final 50m to zoom past his rivals for double gold. The Scottish pentathlon international showed his versatility adding a third medal in the Long Jump with a Silver in 5.64m narrowly edging out training partner Tom Chandler of Balfron who took bronze in 5.60m. Tom was not to be denied victory though as he went on to win the 300m Hurdles in a new national record 43.62s narrowly holding off another training squad member Liam Halliday of Denny who completed a Central 1-2 with 43.75s for silver. Liam led for most of the race before hitting the final barrier as Tom powered through to win. Comrie’s Peter Muirhead was on excellent form taking the Junior (U20) Mens long jump title with a superb leap of 7.01m to break the 7m barrier for the first time. Also taking a junior mens title was Tom Watson, also of Balfron, who dug deep in the final straight of the 800m to win in an excellent seasons best 1:54.85. Emily Greenan of Dunblane showed true character in winning gold in the Youth (U18) 1500m Steeplechase

setting a new club record 5:28.92 in the process. Her win was quite remarkable as a trip over a barrier resulted in a dramatic unscheduled bath in the water jump. However she then picked herself up, regained the lost distance then sprinted clear of her opponents in the final lap for victory. Central AC showed their dominance in the under 16 girls 80m hurdles making up 4 of the 8 finalists with Dunblane’s Sarah Pearson winning in a superb new club record 12.04s followed in by Crieff girl Caitlin Edgar who took bronze in 12.85s, Anna Thomson 5th (13.30pb) and Sophie Parsons 6th (13.25pb in ht). There was further hurdles gold for Charlie Dineen of Dollar winning the Under 14 boys 80m Hurdles in a new championship record 13.22s, in spite of the rainstorm which delayed the start by 30 minutes. Cameron Wilson added yet another gold in the under 16 Triple Jump in the tightest of circumstances. His best jump of 11.52m tied for the lead but he took the win on countback with a superior 2nd best jump having already set a new best 2.70m in the Pole Vault for 5th. Louise Anderson of Gargunnock added a brace of silvers to an already impressive career medal collection with 2nd places in the Junior Women’s Long Jump (5.03m) and Triple Jump (10.47m). Central’s throwers were on fine form with 4 medals all in personal bests including a double from Mark Guthrie in the under 16 Hammer (Silver 47.38m) and Shot (Bronze 13.34m), Robert Burns taking Silver in the U14 Hammer (45.77m) and Bevhan Trevis Bronze in the U14 Discus (26.50m) all 4 medals won in personal bests. They narrowly missed out on further medals with Robert 4th in the discus (23.53m) and 6th in the javelin (30.13m pb) and Bevhan 5th in the shot (8.35m). Emily Batchelor was

unfortunate to hurt her ankle in the triple jump preventing her recording a jump in the event she won the Scottish indoor title but in spite of the injury she took part in the long jump fighting against the pain barrier to record bronze in 5.18m. Caitlin Edgar was unable to add to her hurdles bronze taking 5th in 4.80m. Narrowly missing out on a medal was Amy Gullen who has only recently taken up High Jump and finished 5th in the under 16 age group equalling her pb in 1.45m. Kirsty Forsyth set a season best 63.27s for 6th in a fast Youth 400m race and Emma Boyle got through to the U16 300m final with a seasons best 44.95s after setting a personal best in the Long Jump (4.51m). Also on pb form was Isla Burns in the U16 200m (29.13s) while Caneron McCorgray took part in the U16 High Jump and Long Jump. Gaining championship experience for the first time were Emily Watson who reached the U14 B 100m final in 14s, Jamie Paterson who narrowly missed the U16 800m final in 1:12.74, Erin Travers (U16 High Jump 1.35m =pb), Ross McCorgray (U14 Long Jump), Jenny Walls & Heather Scott (U14 800m) and Shamsa ScottAngel (U16 Long Jump) who will benefit from the experience.

Steven Rennie came very close to making it three - nil, when his header that was goal bounded was blocked and cleared off the goal line. However it only took a minute later for Sauchie to get their third. From another long throw from Rennie, Allan Scott held the ball before turning and chipping the ball into the path of Dougie Wilson who then blasted the ball into the net. Falkirk Juniors immediately responded with a shot just over the bar from their centre forward. Overall the play was one way with Sauchie storming the Falkirk defence at every opportunity. On the thirtieth minute Sauchie Juniors scored a fourth goal. The ball was played through to Scott who intelligently dummied it and Cummings ran onto the ball and belted the ball past the helpless Falkirk goalkeeper. Sauchie Juniors finished the first half very much camped in the Falkirk half looking for more goals, with further chances from Scott and Morgan. Effectively the match was finished at half time with Sauchie having completed their task. In situations like this motivation can be difficult for players to continue playing at the same pace. Sauchie started the second half with Plenderleith replacing Purdie who appeared to have picked up a knock. Falkirk started to enjoy their best period of the match and after fifteen minutes of the second half they were rewarded with a goal. auchie Juniors travelled to the home of Camelon Juniors to meet Falkirk Juniors, who’s own pitch was unavailable. Falkirk who are in their second season of existence, in the South Division, were without any points in the group. With an eye on the forthcoming Bo’ness United match, manager, Fraser Duncan and assistant Davie Beaton decided to make some changes and put King, Feaks and Plenderleith on the bench with Steven Dolan, Rennie and Carroll as their replacements. Darren Dolan retained his place in the Sauchie goals. Sauchie Juniors got off to a dream start with two goals in the space of ten minutes. The first goal came from Brian Morgan. A clever ball from Purdie was met by the strong running of Morgan who lobbed the advancing goalkeeper. Eight minutes it was two - nil, this time from the head of Chris Purdie. A cross from McLelland was met by Purdie who was unmarked and headed into the Falkirk goals. In between the two goals, Sauchie had chances from Scott and Cummings. On one of the rare attacks from Falkirk Juniors, their number ten was able to get a cross into the box, which Dolan managed to get a hand to before it was cleared by Morgan. A minute later, Darren Cummings brought down a long ball from Rennie and then he created an opportunity from which his shot just went wide.

L

eague cup clash against Falkirk Juniors was held at Camelon Juniors park due to there home park being unavailable. We knew going into this game we could potentially set up a winner takes all game against Boness United and that¹s exactly what we done. The players were well fired up for what could have been a tricky task however I couldn¹t ask for much more from the players they stormed into the game and really Falkirk who were hosting a few ex Sauchie players were really shocked at the high tempo we set out at and they could only really hang on and hope for the best. We played three up front and this proved to be a real threat to the home side and we managed to score four first half goals through Brian Morgan, Chris Purdie , Dougie Wilson and Darren Cummings. Great goals and some very good play in the build up to them. Great link up between Alan Scott and Gary Carroll to provide some of them with Kenny Mclellan providing a pin point cross for Purdie to head home and Purdie also providing a great through ball for Morgan to open the scoring. Alan Scott then layed Jinky in on goal with an accurate chip and then a great touch allowed Daz to get in and send the keeper the wrong way to nestle in the corner. At half time we swapped Chris Purdie with Grant Plenderleith after he picked up a knock and second half couldn¹t help but feel the game had feel a bit flat and our players looked a bit to relaxed and we were then woke up after Falkirk created a good goal and gave themselves a little bit of hope. A delightful corner was powered into the box where Ally Burns powered home his header to make it 5-1 and game over really. Ally then added another goal with a powerful freekick and finished off the game. Good performance and delighted with the way we controlled the game and finished our chances this week and it now sets up a huge game on Wednesday night away to ex Super League champions Boness United. Where the winner will progress to the semi finals of the league cup. Hope to see a large travelling support again to help the team put in a performance against one of our main rivals this year. On Saturday we start our league campaign with a very difficult game against Kelty Hearts who have been exceptional in Pre season and we will need to be at our very best to compete with them on Saturday @Beechwood. Thanks again for all your support corner. With less than ten minutes left, a pass back was handled by the Falkirk goalkeeper, who slipped in the terrible conditions that had worsen since the start of the second half. From an indirect free kick, Morgan passed the ball to Burns who hit the ball low and hard pass the crowded goal line to make it six goals for Sauchie. Sauchie Juniors saw out the match with a few more efforts on the Falkirk goals, but without any rewards. At the final whistle, it was a satisfying victory for Sauchie Juniors who played a lot of entertaining link up play and a share among the players of the goals. With the same points as Bo’ness United, they now met in the final match at Newton Park on Wednesday with a 6.30 ko. The winners will qualify as winners of the group and a place in the semi-finals. With so much at stake, a large travelling Sauchie crowd is expected. This Saturday, Sauchie play their first ever Super league match with Kelty Hearts, the visitors. The match is at Beechwood Park with a ko time of 2.30. Manager Duncan and his players will be keen to get their new league campaign off to a winning start.

SLEEPY ALLOA LOSE FIVE GOAL THRILLER

Travis (63) ATT 575 Referee George Salmond continued fron back page had a shocker. A man down and still time to run down, Arbroath opted for a more defensive tactic, allowing Alloa plenty of opportunities to level. The home side should have had a second penalty when Cawley was chopped in the box but somehow Salmond waved play on. The home side was now pressing hard but when Grehan’s free diving header from 8 yards went wide, it wasn’t going to be the Wasps day. Three points lost and yes it was a game of two halves but the home side can take a lot out of the game with some good play. The Angus side made the journey home with the points. Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin said:

“We got out of jail, I changed the shape at the interval and it worked for us. “We were never in the hunt in the first half and we got a break just on the half time whistle with that goal. “They are a good team and showed that in the first half.” Gutted Hartley said: “I could not see that result coming but that’s what happens in football. “We switched off at certain times and it was as good as I have seen us play in the first half but a game lasts 90 mins not 45 mins. “We have to learn from it we now move on to next week and an other hard tie at Brechin.”

Managers Comments Paul Hartley: “It was as good as I have seen us play in the first half – it was excellent we were good all over the park, we played some good football we pressed them well and I couldn’t see that result coming. That is what happens in football, it is cruel a times but we need to learn from that it is not just about 45 minutes but we need to play well for the full 90 minutes. We know that we are good as anybody on our day – we switched off at certain times – they got a bit fortunate with their goal just on half time and that gave them a bit of encouragement. We need to learn and bounce back and that is the reaction I am looking for now. There were some decisions that didn’t go our way but I don’t want to blame that – we should be good enough to win the game on the day – we need to crack on again. I am delighted with the way we played especially in the first half, not so happy the way we conceded the goals that is something we need to address and work on but I am confident in the players I have but it is a hard one to take. This game is finished now and we need to forget about it and the players have got to go again next week against Brechin City which will be equally challenging.

n the first top of the table clash, Alloa threw away a two-goal lead against a hard battling Arbroath side at Recreation park, who left with all three points. Ironically, it was the home side who fully controlled the first half but never turned up for the second as the visitors leveled and then took the lead. Smash and grab comes into mind but in football terms three points is three points. The wasps only have themselves to blame after a first half where they played some great football

and literally overrun Arbroath in all areas. Gaffer Hartley said; “Games last 90 mins, not 45 mins. We fell asleep in the second half, we switched off and we will be looking at that this week in training.” “That’s just not good enough, the goal just before halftime was hard to take.” Alloa took the lead in the 18th min when Kevin Cawley collected the ball out wide left and on the angle 18 yards out spun to shoot high pass the helpless Bullock. The wasps were in full control

and Cawley added no 2 in the 32rd min after a slip by Malcolm in the Arbroath rearguard. At which point, it seemed the points were staying at home and Alloa would run riot. The Wasps should have had a penalty when Grehan was man handed by Malcolm but ref Salmond waved play on and just on the halftime whistle Derek Holmes fired home from close range to give the Angus team some hope – after a bit of luck to the ball at his feet! men and that changed the game in favour of the visitors. Paul Curries 20 yard shot was deflected over the helpless Bain in the Alloa goal in the 54 min, and seven mins later they took the lead. Full back Michael Travis slotted home the winner from a Paul Currie freekick.
