MIKE and the MINOTAUR

Michael loved the old stories from Greek mythology, especially the tale of Theseus and the Minotaur

Every day Michael liked to take his dog, Angus, to the park.

Some times they met the school bully and his dog.

They walked up the hill passed the milkman.

The lollipop lady crossed them safely over the road.

In the park Angus loved to play catch the stick.

He would run round and round for hours.

After a while Michael got bored and began reading his book. Throwing the stick carelessly it landed in the pond.

Angus followed it straight in with a huge splash.

Then there was a spurt of water and a mermaid appeared holding Angus. Michael was really worried, he couldn’t see Angus anywhere in the pond.

She turned and swam off to the other side of the pond.

Michael went into his rucksack and pulled out a large sheet of paper. Using his origami skills he quickly folded the sheet of paper in half.

After a few more folds and tucks he had completed a boat.

Michael’s quest had begun.

He immediately set off across the pond sailing passed Lollipop island. He waved at the Sirens who lived there.

The yacht came to rest on a beach.

And began to follow them as they lead up the sand-dune.

He found Angus’s footprints in the sand.

Eventually the tracks took him into the forest

When he looked back he saw that a Trojan archer was firing at him from the opposite hillside

In his rucksack Michael pulled out a bone

He began to wave it at the two-headed dog And then with all the power he could muster he threw the bone as far as he could.

The two-headed dog ran after the bone they both wanted it

He hid behind a tree and watched in horror. He had found Angus, but there was one more challenge.

He couldn't believe his eyes - it was the half-man, half-bull mythical Minotaur from his books of Greek Mythology. From his rucksack, Michael found a ball of golden thread, then he tied it around the tree.

Then he ran out from behind the tree and caught the Minotaur’s eye. It started walking towards him.

Michael lured the Minotaur towards the tree

He grabbed the golden thread and ran round and round the tree as fast as he could.

As the golden thread tightened the Minotaur was trapped against the tree

Michael had caught the Minotaur and Angus was free

The next thing Michael knew he was being woken by Angus licking his face

They were both very happy to see each other again

They collected up their stick and set off home

Michael liked to take his dog, Angus, to the park to play catch the stick. Accidently Michael threw the stick into the pond. Angus dived straight in to retrieve it and gets carried away by a mermaid. Michael sets out on a quest to rescue his loyal friend.
