The Beauty Edit

it’s all aboutthat base

With summer already upon us (where did spring go?) it’s a chore and a half trying to achieve that grease-free natural glow using foundation. Oily skin can be a nightmare; and even more so in the sweltering summer months when the sweat melts the makeup of even those with combination or dry skin types. Getting an immaculate, blemish free look, does not only depend on tools and techniques but also the right products. So fret not weekenders!, here we have a list of 6 best lightweight formulas for summer which will keep your makeup matte, flawless and natural looking all day long!

ss up

ello fl fit h e n en wow m awl e ak e B xyg e o

Benefit’s hello flawless oxygen wow foundation isn’t at the top of this list by any coincidence. It is a very lightweight formula rich with light diffusing properties which makes you look shine free and gives you that lit-from-within glow (could you possible ask for more?).

NARS all day luminous weightless foundation

The makeup geniuses at NARS have formulated this absolutely weightless formula which feels like magic milk; we say magic because having such a thin consistency, it has up to 16 hours of staying power. You’ll have to try it to believe it.

Mac face and body foundation

ne belnli y dation Mae fou

This miracle product is water based and includes SPF 15 which is a necessity during those long summer days. It’s oil free and has widely been termed as “second-skin” by scores of beauty bloggers. It gives you great coverage with a small amount of product and gives a refreshed, flawless look that lasts all day long. It’s not matte, it’s not glowy, the only way to describe this look is “velvet”!

Bare minerals original powder foundation

m

This is a drugstore foundation which can beat most of the high end ones. It has amazing lasting power which is a huge plus for oily skins, it’s matte, its velvety, it doesn’t oxidize and it’s easy on your purse- need we say more?

Chanel vitalumiere aqua foundation

Last but definitely not the least, this foundation product is the stuff of dreams for all of you out there with very oily skin. It’s powder, has ah-mazing coverage (it will hide any redness, spots, acne blemishes) and it doesn’t give you a cakey look at all! (Too good to be true eh?) You can apply some oil free moisturiser before application to bind the powder formula and make sure it stays put, or if your skin is oily, your natural oils will do the needful. You just have to buff this foundation on your face preferably with a flat kabuki brush and it will look and feel like you’re wearing nothing at all!

If you’re a fan of the “no makeupmakeup look”, this is the foundation you’ve been looking for. It’s water based, thinnest formula out there is sheer but buildable. It can also be used to mix with other foundations to make them lighter or darker if you want to achieve the perfect shade. It wears well even through heat and humidity! With this foundation, it doesn’t look like you’re wearing any makeup at all, it’s like “my skin- but better”.

Weekend Eats At PARAMOUNT Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, KARACHI

Trained by Chef William of Paramount International, and his team from Canada, Paramount is one of the latest and only restaurants on the block, that not only serves the delicious foods but the sights and sounds of Lebanon, giving you an all-round experience.

Ambiance

Appetizers

As we walked into Paramount, the first thing we noticed were the towering glass windows that were layered with mosaic patterned screens that are intrinsic to Lebanese culture, transporting you to a different place instantaneously. The traditional ornaments speckled across various spots added to the authentic vibe of this Middle Eastern restaurant.

We were served with Hummus, not oily and rich in texture, which we enjoyed with our pita bread. The tossed Fatoush Salad was fresh and crisp, classic and simple and was dressed lightly with a lemon dressing, adding the perfect amount of tanginess to it. We loved the use of fried pita crisps to finish the salad, that maintained the consistency in authenticity. The stand out had to be the Yallah Fries; a generous serving of fresh and crispy fries topped with Shawarma Chicken, fresh garlic mayo and parsley kept us going back for more!

aPRIL 09, 2017 | 72

Service

As we were seated we were greeted with pita bread fresh out of the oven, with steam still billowing out! The staff were friendly and well informed of the menu, ingredients and processes involved in preparing the food as they guided us through the dishes with recommendations on some of the best picks.

Main Courses

The suggested Combo Platter wasladen with a myriad of elements to choose from. The Beef and Chicken Shawarma, sliced fresh off the skewer, was perfectly seasoned.

weekend | FOOD march 26, 2017 | 85

Following this we tried the Beef, Kafta (Lamb) Kebaband Shish Taouk (Chicken) which are marinated kebabsgrilled on the skewer. The Shish Taouk was juicy and the Falafels (a simple yet tricky morsel to get right!) were soft and flavourful. Finished with a spice and herb bread, classic garlic and tahini sauces and pickled vegetables, we definitely recommend this dish to those who are looking to get a little taste of everything. A new twist to the classic wrap, was the Saj Wrap; served in its truest form on a tabli (a wooden platter) we

liked the new mix of flavours we experienced, with Chicken Shawarma, pickles and fries (!!) wrapped into a thinner crispier bread. The Saj Wrap was definitely a variation we haven’t tried before but one we enjoyed! A pleasant afternoon spent at Paramount overall! For those looking to embrace the simplicity of authentic Lebanese food, must pay them a visit! As suggested by the Team, the food at Paramount is best enjoyed when served hot, to be able to appreciate the simplicity and flavour of the elements! Be sure to save your conversations for later so you can enjoy a great, healthy meal while taking in the ambiance of Lebanon.

This outfit is a statement take on the classic fit and flare design. A flattering wide leg silhouette enhanced by a contrasting colour block of taupe and black is paired with a fluid tunic that is cropped in the front. It also features a flowy hemline in the back to enhance the tailored look without disrupting the streamed silhouette. The classic black hue makes it an indispensable addition to your closet.

weekend | fashion

In a parfait nude, this outfit encapsulates relaxed and timeless elegance. The tunic features a neckline that sits close to the nape of neck with a wrap front feature. Complement its minimalist appeal by styling yours with simple jewelry and heels.

The Tuscan Tunic This Tuscan yellow tunic is crafted from fluid georgette chiffon. It is cut to loosely drape on the body and is finished with handcrafted details mimicking a windowpane- revealing just a glimpse of skin. Temper the short length with a pair of wide leg trousers for a laid back luxe look this summer.

weekend | fashion

This shirt dress is designed in the brand’s signature shade of burgundy. Tailored from georgette, this utilitarian style is cut in a slightly loose fit for the upcoming season and has a belt to define the waist. We think the maxi length works best with flat sandals or slides.
