The evening was a quiet and intimate affair celebrating the designer’s thriving career as an artist par excellence. The show was wonderfully choreographed by Rehan Bashir, eloquently narrated by Khadija Malik with makeup by Maram and Abroo and jewellery courtesy Amrapali. The event PR was managed by Latitude CRS.

Ayeda
Actor & dancer
Anush thinks of Rano’s pieces as “timeless” and looked as lovely and fresh as the first flower of spring in the “Pearl of Sahar” bridal. This is a frosted pink taffeta lehenga juxtaposed with floral motifs and mukesh crescents, paired with a net angrakha and sunburst dupatta.

CEO of Fabbit and Director of the WAK group
Ayeda dorned the “Yellow Lotus in a Pond” bridal. This design was inspired by a single lotus flower floating in a fresh blue pond.

Maryam Mahmood Managing Editor at Weekend Magazine
Fatin Gondal
Co-founder and CEO of Webwork
MAY 08, 2016 | 50
Fatin finds a “forever” quality in Rano’s aesthetic and looked lovely in a bright “Chuhe Datti” silk formal ensemble paired with a banarsi and velvet shawl.
Maryam truly thinks of Rano’s pieces as “heirlooms” to be preserved and passed on to generations. She looked absolutely resplendent in Rano’s “Desi Gulaab” bridal. This is a signature Rano’s Heirlooms cut celebrating the beauty of a lehenga and gharara combined in one. This bridal work of art is paired with a nude peach dupatta, accented by silver tissue pallas and an oyster velvet shawl with bijli borders.
Natasha Khan CEO at The Makeup Suite
Mehek Saeed
Style Editor at Grazia Pakistan Mehek also thinks of Rano’s pieces as “heirloom worthy”. She wore the gulaab rang kalidar jama paired with a pink silk & raw cotton lehenga. Her dupatta is graced with contrasting borders - rampuri to one side and folk to the other. This unusual pairing is a signature Rano touch and adds a charming and playful narrative to the clothing.
Natasha finds culture in Rano’s clothing and was chosen to walk in an ensemble that represents the rich contrast of Pakistani culture. She carried the Banaras bughul booti front open jama in translucent Celedon. This was paired with a maroon velvet lehenga and shawl to elevate the Celedon bridal.

ShehrbanoTaseer Editor of Sunday Magazine and Fashion Designer at Rema & Shehrbano
Shehrbano finds Rano’s Heirlooms “eternal.” In line with ideas of timelessness, this glowing mama-to-be walked in the “Sahar Bridal.” Her long peshwas depicts moonlit flowers under a starry night sky. The sunburst dupatta calls out to dawn giving the outfit its name.
Rimmel Mohydin Human Rights Activist
January 24, 2016 | 64
For Rimmel, Rano evokes “nostalgia” – a return to a simpler, more authentic time. She walked in the Sunehri Rupehri Banaras. The grand dupatta is enveloped by borders inspired by jhoomers. The pomegranates running around the borders of her voluminous skirt, a symbol of wealth and longevity. The blush toned ensemble reflects characters of femininity and the ingenuous charm of youth.
Zahra Khan Restauranteur
For Zahra, Rano’s Heirlooms is simply “special”. She gracefully carried the Shafaq lehenga with an orange goth paired with an aari chair dupatta. The look is inspired by the colours of the horizon on the canvas of a mid-afternoon sky.
Rima Shahzad Bokhari Architect
Rima finds a ‘beautiful narrative’ in Rano’s clothes and owns their story as she dons them. This Aabe Rawan ensemble evokes the natural flow of water. Her raw cotton Peshwas and gharara are paired with a banarsi shawl.

from the intense, graphic cat-eye and move over to the softer, playful kitten eyeliner or smudged out effect. Trace the outer corner of eyes (only the upper lid if you prefer) with an eyeliner of your choice, creating a tiny flick at the end. For those who don’t want to spend so much time on eyeliner, use dark brown or black eyeshadow (or eyepencil) and with an angled brush and draw little strokes from the middle of the lash line to a soft flick at the outercorner and smudge away. To make the eyes look bigger and more awake use a nude or white eyeliner and apply it along the lower waterline.

Lips Ladies, bring out the bright reds,

fuchsia, orange and purples that you’ve been eyeing for a while as this spring it’s all about bold lips. Pair a minimal look on the face and the eyes with your favourite bright shade for that bold statement. For those who are more daring can use color blocking using a bright red lip colour on the upper lip and a similar bright pink on the lower lip, which from afar will look the same but up close will give a bold but trendy statement, be careful not to pucker the lips together otherwise the effect be blend together.

Glitter We’ve seen a wave of glitter last season and for this season it’s still going strong, including glitter lips, cheeks and brow bones. However, there are some toned down, everyday versions that you can experiment with to stay with the trend. For a daytime look sweep a soft, light nude shimmery eyeshadow, which complements your skin tone, all over the upper lid and pair it with some mascara and a bold lip shade. Instead of the full fledged glitter lips, tap some highlighter or your favourite glittery shade only to the centre of the lips and the cupids bow, this will also create dimension to the lips and make them look fuller.
Blush
Glowy skin is here to stay! It’s all about healthy, radiant looking skin achieved by the highlighter of your choice; powder, cream or liquid sweeped across the cheekbones upto the temples, brow bone (and even the inner corner of the eyes). For those who are tired of the champagne coloured dewy effect should try highlighters with a pink-ish hue to celebrate spring. Tip: try applying cream or liquid highlighters underneath your everyday BB cream or foundation for a more subtle ‘glow-from-within’ look, be sure to tap product on the highlighted area so it doesn’t move with the layer applied on top.

Skin
Blush is the focal point this season bringing back the 80’s trend known as draping; blush is applied in a C form all along the cheekbones uptil the temples and blended into the eye area in order to highlight the widest points of the face. While that’s great for the runway, you can use a peach toned blush and with a soft hand apply it to the apple of the cheeks in an upward movement towards the temples if you like. Pair it with a similar lip shade for a fresh, naturally flushed effect.

Weekend Scouts Aminah Mirza & Bushra Parekh Entrepreneurs, KARACHI @peachwearpk
Entrepreneurs, Aminah Mirza & Bushra Parekh bring durable gymwear, cosy nightwear and comfortable lingerie to an ever growing market in Pakistan.
MARCH 19, 2017 | 74
What inspired the name Peach? Our products are comfy, cosy and delicious - so the name fit!
Why gymwear and lingerie/sleepwear in particular? We really felt like there was a niche for gymwear, lingerie and sleepwear in Pakistan and having a raw passion for the same - it just clicked!
weekend | FASHion
Are you both highly involved with workouts or do you train/ teach fitness? Bushra: Yes! I love experimenting different kinds of workouts - mainly so I can eat whatever I feel like after! Aminah: I’m not a fitness freak but I do workout regularly because I realise it’s importance for one’s general wellbeing.
Being best friends & working together, is that something you had to think about before starting or was it inevitable? We work well together because our styles complement each other. We both lean towards colors and comfort! Nothing that looks good should feel bad and vice versa - so there wasn’t much to think about - we had an idea and we started off!
MARCH 19, 2017 | 75
Do you design the pieces and are they locally made? Or do you split responsibilities? We design all of our products, inspired by people, culture and nature. They are outsourced. However, we have carefully picked our suppliers to assure quality. We split responsibilities where Aminah is responsible for product procurement and finance and Bushra mostly handles marketing.
How often will you launch new products and collections? What should we look forward to? Since we received a fantastic response to our first collection, we do plan to introduce new variety in on a monthly basis. However, that depends on the market and their requirements. That said, we have a lot of more fun stuff coming your way such as work out tees, tanks, pj sets, lingerie items and eventually water bottles, yoga mats and much much more! Stay tuned.
Are fabrics important for you to see pre stitching or is it left to the vendor? It is of utmost importance to us. We get samples of each, try and test them out before we start selling!

An evening at
Joie.. Hairapy 101 By Farah
Vayani
MARCH 19, 2017 | 90
We spent an evening at the newly opened salon on Bukhari commercial, Joie (pronounces jo-ah). I know, I know, new salons feel like new dentists. You’re comfortable with the one you’ve been going to for years and the employees share excellent relations with you. For someone who is super particular about cleanliness and courtesy, Joie delivered 100%. And the music is perfect. Soft, soothing and a good mix of genres. You won’t be shouting over it to be heard or converse softly with a friend. We were called in to try out their services and opted for the Kerastase ritual. This included meeting Esha, from Kerastase who gave us a tour of the lovely salon and had trained the staff to assess our hair type before the treatment ritual.
Not only do the hair wash chairs have massage facilities, the staff is trained to have the perfect pressure when massaging your scalp. We don’t realise how important this is with product in our hair. The ritual treatment comprised of hair wash with products based on our hair type (greasy and hair fall in our case – you know some of you can relate). Post that, the mask used was used to combat hair fall which post application was massaged so well, it felt like that feeling post a good night’s sleep – zero exaggeration. Then comes the part which no salon has – the micro mist machine which ensures the product goes to the hair cuticles and basically gets the job done – which is not destroying your hair but pushing the mask to maximum potential which we can’t even get with a hot towel wrapped
around our heads. Not too misty, not too warm. Just right. The last 10 second cool air blast seals the deal. You know how they say don’t blow dry your hair post a protein treatment? Guess what, you can do that with this kerastase ritual so you have fabulous feeling hair which also looks super! We give Joie a 10/10. From the lovely owner who gave us 100% attention, to the professionals brought in to train the polite staff who did a fabulous job to the end result. Try their pedigree uses either the fabulous jacuzzi. Perfect pampering day out with the girls! Joie is located in Bukhari commercial (next to chatterbox) Worth checking out and making it a semi permanent go to place if not permanent.

DEPILEX SMILEAGAIN FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR STANDARDIZATION OF SKIN CREAMS
MARCH 19, 2017 | 96
Calls for mandatory implementation of PSQCA standards on skin creams The DepilexSmileagain Foundation has called for mandatory standardization of skin creams in Pakistan to protect the health of consumers. The need for regulation is highlighted by recent international media reports that have exposed a number of Pakistan origin creams as being poisonous for consumers. These creams contain a dangerous chemical mix of chemicals that have been proved to be harmful to consumers because of the high levels of mercury. In addition, such actions also malign the reputation of Pakistan, affecting the country’s trade relations with countries across the world. MasarratMisbah, CEO, DepilexSmileagain Foundation, highlighted, “Over the last few years, doctors across Pakistan have witnessed an increasing number of skin diseases resulting from prolonged use of unstandardized skin whitening creams, which has verified by research done by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute in Islamabad. In 2016, the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority has taken proactive and decisive action to define a standard for skin creams. We request the Government of Pakistan to ensure mandatory regulation of the skin cream industry according to this standard.” In 2016, the PSQCA finalized ‘PS-3228/2016 – Skin Creams’. This standard currently allows skin cream manufacturers to voluntarily adopt manufacturing practices that are in line with global standards. It is now important that these standards become mandatory to ensure that the consumer of Pakistan and our country’s industrial reputation is protected from malicious interests.
