Happy Halloween!
Let the fun begin! To me, Halloween always means the “kickoff” of holidays. It is the first of the four biggest holidays of the year. Within four weeks, Thanksgiving will be upon us. However, the day after Halloween, the store shelves are usually quickly wiped clean and Christmas decorations follow hoping to cash in on early shoppers. Each year, it seems the commercialism of Christmas comes a bit earlier. I even saw a display of lights appear right beside the “back to school” displays. Black Friday used to start a few hours earlier than regular store hours, like 7 a.m. Then it was 5 a.m. and 4 a.m. This year most stores will be open right at midnight, meaning many workers will have to cut their Thanksgiving celebrations short to get to work on time. Then the grand finale - New Year’s Eve. So with the calendar filling fast with extra parties and programs to attend, make sure you take some time to relax and enjoy your families with a weekend getaway. Check out the following pages with idea upon idea for things to do, people to see, and places to go. A magic show is always a fun event. See page 5 for details. In the fall, there are always a selection of harvest celebrations to attend. Festivals abound with food, crafts and live entertainment. I suggest the Glendale Crossing Festival. Details are in the article on page 6. Of course, the ghosts and goblins are out and about this month. The annual ghost walk in Elizabethtown has a new name. See page 9. Stay tuned next month for recipes for the holidays. Until then...

People to See:
Avenged Sevenfold (A7X)
The Buried Alive Tour comes to the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Known for songs, such as Afterlife, Almost Easy, and Scream, tickets are now available at ticketmaster.com. Floor prices range from $54 a ticket. A7X is excited to have Hollywood Undead, Asking Alexandria, and Black Veil Brides joining them on the Buried Alive Tour, offering fans an incredible value with four of the hottest bands in rock today. Los Angeles’ Hollywood Undead released their second album American Tragedy in April, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and No. 1 on the Hard Rock Albums chart. Britain’s Asking Alexandria's sophomore full-length album release, Reckless and Relentless, debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Top 200. The band has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and appeared on the cover of AP and Guitar World. Hollywood’s Black Veil Brides hit No. 1 on the Billboard Independent Albums with their 2010 debut album We Stitch These Wounds, followed by their second album, Set The World ON Fire, which peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The members of metalcore outfit Avenged Sevenfold (or A7X) were still attending high school in Huntington Beach, CA, when they formed their band in 1999. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), the Reverend (drums), and Johnny Christ (bass) to make an impression with their aggressive hybrid of metal, hard rock, and punk-pop. The band made its official debut in July 2001, releasing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on the Good Life label before moving to the Hopeless roster for 2003's Waking the Fallen. Warner Bros. took interest in the band's aggressive sound and issued its breakthrough release, City of Evil, in June 2005 The album reached number 30 on Billboard's Top 200, propelled in part by the Top Ten success of the single "Bat Country." The accompany music video was heavily rotated on MTV and Fuse, where live appearances also helped boost Avenged's growing profile, and the band ultimately won the Best New Artist Award (though they were hardly newcomers) at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. As demand for their music increased, Avenged Page 14
Sevenfold canceled their tour dates for fall 2006 and set to work on a fourth studio album. Boasting a grittier sound than previous releases, the self-titled/selfproduced disc appeared in October 2007, debuting at number four on the Billboard Top 200 and spinning off the radio single "Almost Easy." The album also fared well in England, where three songs cracked the Top Five of the U.K. rock charts, and Avenged Sevenfold helped support the release by touring North America on the Taste of Chaos tour. Released in September 2008, the CD/DVD package Live in the LBC and Diamonds in the Rough captured the band during a tour stop in Long Beach. In 2009 the band announced plans to begin work on its third studio release. That same year, drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan passed away at the age of 28. In 2010 the band released Nightmare with replacement drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). ~ Christina Fuoco, Rovi .
