Happy Mother’s Day!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our readers who enjoy the opportunity of holding the most precious title of all, “mother.” Hats off to the mothers of tiny babies who keep them up all night! For the mothers whose toddlers have them on the go from morning ‘til night! For the mothers whose lives are ruled by the carpool schedule! For the mothers who make it to every game, to every show and to every open house! For the mothers who worry endlessly about SAT scores and college admissions! For the mothers who, somehow, juggle kids and careers, and for those moms who have more than a fulltime job at home with their little ones! For the “empty nest” mothers of college students and for the really “empty nest” mothers whose grown children have moved on and out! For the mothers who now have that very special gift of grandchildren! I pay tribute to you with this issue. There is actually a website you can visit and calculate the monetary value of work that moms do. The website is MomSalaryWizard.com. The salary amounts are based on how many children you have and where you live. According to this website, the work that a stay-at-home mom with two kids would warrant a salary of $125,840 a year. My oldest daughter posted a statement on facebook that I’d like to share called “A Promise to my Children” It made me realize she’s all grown up: “As long as I live, I am your parent first - your friend second. There are times when I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed because I LOVE YOU...You will never find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than I do. If you don’t hate me at least once in your life, then I’m not doing my job properly. With that, I say “Amen!” and kids- remember to take your Mom out for Mother’s day to one of the many places to go, things to do, and places to see suggested in this issue. Enjoy!

WAPAKANETA – The Armstrong Air & Space Museum is active all night long during overnight visits. The museum shares the story of Neil Armstrong, all Ohioans who have attempted to defy gravity, the Space Race, and current space exploration. The museum itself is designed to resemble a futuristic moon base. It is most beautiful when viewed at dusk. The museum features many one-of-a-kind artifacts including the Gemini VIII spacecraft, Neil Armstrong’s Gemini and Apollo spacesuits, and an Apollo 11 moon rock. The museum is also home to two fullsize aircraft, both of which were flown by Mr. Armstrong. A 15year-old Armstrong learned to fly at Port Koneta, a long-gone Wapakoneta airfield. He flew a yellow Aeronca Champion now on exhibit at the museum. Scout programs allow troops to come from across Ohio and participate in activities designed to meet merit badge requirements. Groups can build lunar rover racers using foam and balloons, design paper airplanes using Bernoulli’s principle, make star charts, use a telescope and can create their own mission patches like each of NASA’s mission crews. Take a personal tour and watch a film on the first May , 2012

lunar landing or racee to complete a scavenger hunt. Snack on pizza before free time and lights out. Some groups may even build and launch their own model rockets. Eventually, everyone settles in to their (lunar) camps and sleeping bags to catch a few hours of sleep before physical training each morning. Just as astronauts start their day with exercise and breakfast, so do the museum campers. Overnight programs are available to any group. In fact, the museum is planning public overnight events this summer. The scout programs are available throughout the year, but book quickest in the spring. Many of the programs used for the scout overnights are also available to school tour groups and during special events like the Summer Moon Festival in July. The museum is open during the day as well, 9:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday. It is a wonderful family vacation destination. There are many fun and interesting sites to visit while you are in the area. To learn more about the Armstrong Air & Space Museum be sure to check out their website, www.armstrongmuseum.org and for interesting space related fun facts become a fan on Facebook.

The Country Hall of Famer and Bonafide Country Superstar has had a hugely successful career and is respected as a musician and professional. He’s recorded over a dozen studio albums, participated in multiple compilation projects and has sold over 26 million albums. With Guitar Slinger, Gill took matMay, 2012

ters into his own hands and recorded his first release in five years right in his home studio. As a result, the production crackles with live energy and allows the true warmth of Gill’s voice to shine. Heartache, loss, love, and the spiritual journey are just a few bits of the subject matter covered on this album. And that signature high lonesome sound has a lot more to offer here than just pretty vibrato, as age has actually made Gill’s great voice even better. The passions are deeper, the truths are grittier, and the heart is bigger. All of that shines through each interpretation. This time, its personal. Since 1928, The Sandusky State Theatre has been an area landmark and continues to serve as a top entertainment destination for the entire Erie County region. The Sandusky State Theatre has been in operation for 83 years and has served the community in many entertainment capacities functioning as a top Vaudeville theatre, movie palace and as a world-class performing arts center. People to See ... Saturday, May 5 8 p.m. Renaissance Theatre Tickets: $21.50/24.50 MANSFIELD - Hilarious is the only way to describe The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron?. You will laugh non-stop for ninety minutes as Robert Dubac ransacks his brain to answer the age old question, “What do women want?” Tickets are on sale at the Renaissance Box Office, by calling 419-522-2726 and online at mansfieldtickets.com. The Renaissance is also pleased to continue their $10 ticket offer for this event. These seats, located in the back rows of the balcony, must be purchased in person only, beginning two hours prior to the performance at the Renaissance Box Office, cash preferred. The Male Intellect has garnered envious reviews from San Francisco to Toronto, Chicago to LA. The Boston Globe proclaims, “Robert Dubac is talented, entertaining and very funny!” The Los Angeles Times says, "The show elicits big laughs from both sexes in waves of treble and bass” while The Philadelphia Inquirer states, “THE MALE INTELLECT is adeptly conceived, refreshingly and comically stated and Dubac has no trouble keeping it up for 90 minutes.” The Denver Post and Toronto Star both gave the show its highest four-star rating, raving “THE MALE INTELLECT is hilarious as it is thought-provoking…a brilliant show." Page 18

When the show opens we meet “Bobby” in a very confused state having been dumped by the girl of his dreams. Unable to understand why, he channels some not-so-wise, but hilarious advice from his five chauvinistic mentors. With a shrug of his shoulders or a crook of his neck Robert Dubac seamlessly transforms himself into these five alter egos; each offering their own brand of misguided advice. The alter egos are: THE COLONEL who insists that the key to what women want is honesty, hence all men should admit they’re boneheads so they always have an out. JEAN-MICHEL who says communication is what women want.… and communicating with doubletalk and mindless metaphors is completely acceptable as long as you speak with an sexy accent. FAST EDDIE who gives women want they want - passion! But he doles it out from the fast lane professing men have to “love ’em fast and leave ’em first”. OLD MR. LINGER who believes women want a sense of humor. He understands women can play hard to get. He also understands that if a www.theweekendermagazine.com

man plays hard to get – he doesn’t get anything. Old Mr. Linger is 123 years old and believes he has discovered the secret to life. Remaining single. RONNIE CABREZZI who believes all women want is some sensitivity. He also thinks sharing your secrets makes you sensitive. However, the kind of secrets he shares with his fiancé, Lucy, just piss her off. “Bobby” realizes their suggestions are worthless but with help from his “feminine side” he is able to sift through the bad advice and discover the real answer to the age-old question, “What do women want?” And he does it all while drinking a beer. Brace yourself, ladies, cause this is how men think! Hailed by critics and audiences alike, THE MALE INTELLECT: AN OXYMORON? is a rare thing; a clever combination of theater and stand-up comedy that is laugh out loud funny, provocative and thoughtful, all at once. There are two types of people who should rush and see it - men and women! May, 2012
