Happy Mother’s Day!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our readers who enjoy the opportunity of holding the most precious title of all, “mother.” Hats off to the mothers of tiny babies who keep them up all night! For the mothers whose toddlers have them on the go from morning ‘til night! For the mothers whose lives are ruled by the carpool schedule! For the mothers who make it to every game, to every show and to every open house! For the mothers who worry endlessly about SAT scores and college admissions! For the mothers who, somehow, juggle kids and careers, and for those moms who have more than a fulltime job at home with their little ones! For the “empty nest” mothers of college students and for the really “empty nest” mothers whose grown children have moved on and out! For the mothers who now have that very special gift of grandchildren! I pay tribute to you with this issue. There is actually a website you can visit and calculate the monetary value of work that moms do. The website is MomSalaryWizard.com. The salary amounts are based on how many children you have and where you live. According to this website, the work that a stay-at-home mom with two kids would warrant a salary of $125,840 a year. My oldest daughter posted a statement on facebook that I’d like to share called “A Promise to my Children” It made me realize she’s all grown up: “As long as I live, I am your parent first - your friend second. There are times when I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed because I LOVE YOU...You will never find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than I do. If you don’t hate me at least once in your life, then I’m not doing my job properly. With that, I say “Amen!” and kids- remember to take your Mom out for Mother’s day to one of the many places to go, things to do, and places to see suggested in this issue. Enjoy!

WAPAKANETA – The Armstrong Air & Space Museum is active all night long during overnight visits. The museum shares the story of Neil Armstrong, all Ohioans who have attempted to defy gravity, the Space Race, and current space exploration. The museum itself is designed to resemble a futuristic moon base. It is most beautiful when viewed at dusk. The museum features many one-of-a-kind artifacts including the Gemini VIII spacecraft, Neil Armstrong’s Gemini and Apollo spacesuits, and an Apollo 11 moon rock. The museum is also home to two fullsize aircraft, both of which were flown by Mr. Armstrong. A 15year-old Armstrong learned to fly at Port Koneta, a long-gone Wapakoneta airfield. He flew a yellow Aeronca Champion now on exhibit at the museum. Scout programs allow troops to come from across Ohio and participate in activities designed to meet merit badge requirements. Groups can build lunar rover racers using foam and balloons, design paper airplanes using Bernoulli’s principle, make star charts, use a telescope and can create their own mission patches like each of NASA’s mission crews. Take a personal tour and watch a film on the first May , 2012
lunar landing or racee to complete a scavenger hunt. Snack on pizza before free time and lights out. Some groups may even build and launch their own model rockets. Eventually, everyone settles in to their (lunar) camps and sleeping bags to catch a few hours of sleep before physical training each morning. Just as astronauts start their day with exercise and breakfast, so do the museum campers. Overnight programs are available to any group. In fact, the museum is planning public overnight events this summer. The scout programs are available throughout the year, but book quickest in the spring. Many of the programs used for the scout overnights are also available to school tour groups and during special events like the Summer Moon Festival in July. The museum is open during the day as well, 9:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday. It is a wonderful family vacation destination. There are many fun and interesting sites to visit while you are in the area. MANSFIELD - Mayor Tim Theaker, News Journal reporter Jami Kinton, the 179th’s Colonel Gary McCue and his wife Molly McCue, arts advocate Phyllis Hire, podiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Schwein and active community supporter Susie Sawyer will join Neos Dance Theatre onstage at the Renaissance Theatre, Friday, May 4th at 8PM for the fourth annual Neos Dances with the Stars fundraiser. The evening will also include special video appearances by State Representative Jay Goyal, retired Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs Director Bill Hartnett, local businesswoman Marilou Schwan and former Mansfield Mayor Lydia Reid. Renaissance CEO and President, Michael Miller will emcee this funfilled event in which local celebs are teamed with professional dancers. Each team will be evaluated by a panel of guest judges and the winner will be chosen by audience members. The evening will include a silent and live auction. Doors will open at 6PM, and guests can bid on silent auction items throughout the evening. Winners will be announced during the performance. Items up for bid include Renaissance show and dinner packages, jewelry, tickets to sporting events, staycations, gift baskets and much, much more. All proceeds will benefit the Renaissance Theatre. When the show opens we meet “Bobby” in a very confused state having been dumped by the girl of his dreams. People to See: OSU Chorale and Symphonic Choir MARION - Five Nights rounds out season with a visit from University Chorale and Symphonic Choir The Ohio State University at Marion is pleased to welcome the OSU Chorale and OSU Symphonic Choir to Morrill Hall Auditorium, May 10, 7:30 p.m., as part of the Five Nights on Campus cultural and performing arts series. The Ohio State University Chorale is a select ensemble comprised of graduate students and upper-level undergraduates. Members are selected by competitive audition and represent the finest talent at the university. The Chorale sings a variety of distinctive choral literature chosen to

challenge both singers and audiences, and its repertoire is representative of the most recent trends in choral composition. The ensemble tours extensively in the United States and overseas. Enrolling approximately fifty singers, Ohio State’s Symphonic Choir is open to all members of the campus community by audition.
