Means Shop!

My two daughters are the shop - a - holics for our family. Heaven forbid that I should ever get trapped into going with both of them at the same time. It has happened before and I’m sure both thoroughly enjoyed it. However, for me, it’s just easier to give them the list and let them have at it. My oldest has been a staff member of various retail “shopping“ marts since she was 16 and pretty well knows the ropes from both a customer’s point of view and the retailer’s angle. She’s a coupon saver. She’s a sales flyer organizer. She’s a list maker. My other daughter is the determined shopper. I love Facebook because I can overhear conversations between the two without having to comment. I smiled just the other day when the younger mentioned going to the city for a quick shopping trip. The older immediately started drilling her on 20% off here and did she take advantage of a 1-day sale there? No was the answer. She went, she shopped, she bought, she came home (with what she went for and nothing more.) So from two completely opposite types of shoppers, I thought it would be interesting to share some Black Friday shopping tips from my two experts: (Younger) Make a list of items wanted. Print the store maps so you can plan your route. Take a partner. Never shop alone. (Older) Go through all the ads and make a list including what time each store opens. Go back through your list and pick the most important must haves. You can also put in order by when they open. Be prepared to stand in line and an even longer line to checkout. Think about your checkout time. One store, for example, last year was so bad getting out I would rethink going there again. If you’re after more than one item take people with you to split up and manuever through the store or split up and go to different stores. If you really really want a particular item, go early and stand in line. Dont get your heart set on things stores have limited supplies of and you may not get it. Keep your eyes open and pay attention to your surroundings. There are people that push and shove. Be careful and have fun. There are a lot of haters out there protesting stores being open on Thanksgiving. All stores have different hours and different sale start times so pay attention and be organized. Be prepared to take all night and be daylight by the time you go home. Also

watch how your items are displayed in your car so they arent stolen while you’re in another store. Sometimes people watching is all the fun. Most ads are already out - leaked online - so I’m working on our must haves already.) So there you have it. Happy Shopping everyone and have a Blessed Thanksgiving...Kathy Barnett 4 l www.TheWeekenderMagazine.com, November, 2014
