Boston and organizations across Massachusetts are joining forces to honor the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, a significant event that led to the American Revolution. The commemorative year will feature dynamic programming and engaging events throughout 2023, culminating in a largescale reenactment on Saturday, December 16, 2023. This event holds historical importance as it sparked the Revolutionary War and laid the groundwork for the founding of the United States. Boston aims to be the focal point for these celebrations and will lead the way in commemorating other major historic anniversaries leading up to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. Various initiatives are planned, including a Boston Tea Party Descendants Program, a national tea donation drive, a “Tea Talks” Speaker Series, the inclusion of the Boston Tea Party theme in the Boston Harborfest, the Boston Tea Party Participant Grave Marker Project, collaborations with the East India Company in London, and the grand-scale live reenactment of the Boston Tea Party. The city of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are excited about the upcoming year of celebrations and the opportunity to honor the courageous individuals who shaped American history.
