Apple Festival Has Fun for All - Versailles
Every fall, as the foliage in Versailles transforms into a canvas of reds and golds, the town comes alive with the sweet scent of ripe apples, the laughter of families, and the warm embrace of community. The Versailles Apple Festival, a beloved tradition for locals and visitors alike, invites you to join in the festivities this year on October 7-8.
The small town celebrates its agricultural heritage by paying tribute to the bountiful apple orchards surrounding the area. During the festival, the air is perfumed with the delightful aroma of freshly baked apple pies, caramel apples, and a myriad of other delectable apple-based treats. You can enter the Pie baking contest on Oct. 6 to be judged on appearance and taste Oct. 7. The pies will then be auctioned to the highest bidders at a pie auction afterward. The grand prize winner will receive $50 and cash prizes for 1st - 3rd place. Proceeds of the auction will benefit the chamber of commerce scholarship fund.
Entertainment
Live music performances begin Saturday at 1 p.m. with The Finley Boys, an energetic acoustic bluegrass ensemble. The band has performed in excess of a hundred shows yearly, includingSilver Dollar City, the Missouri State Fair and Cumberland Highlanders television show. Other performance choices for Saturday will be Mitch Shields and the Retro Nerds. A fiddler’s contest will also take place that afternoon.
On Sunday, enjoy a community worship service, Jackson Fischer on the main stage from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and gospel music at the Gospel stage.
Other Activities
Other activities on the schedule are a parade, a car show and cruise night, a fun zone for kids, and a Figure 8 Scramble and Demolition Derby.
The Royal Theatre will feature an Apple Festival Musical, Cats at 7 p.m. Oct. 5-8 and 12-15 (2 p.m. matinee on Sundays). Tickets are $10 for aduls and $5 for students. The play is based on ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by T.S. Eliot.
