Walking for cancer funds
Penrith local to take part in initative that raises money for much-needed research
APenrith local will take part in the Spirit to Cure walk next week to raise money for cancer research.
Spirit to Cure is Suncorp’s second largest cancer fundraising challenge, which gives people from all walks of life the opportunity to get fit and connect with their colleagues for a cause.
The initiative started in 2021 and, so far, has contributed directly towards new treatments, boosting diagnosis rates and improving the daily lives of those affected by cancer.

Geri Latief has worked at Suncorp for 10 years, and this year she’ll be walking a half marathon to raise funds for cancer research research, support and prevention.

“This year I’ll be taking on the 21km walk with my colleagues around the Sydney CBD,” she said.
“In Australia, we are aiming to collectively raise $1.6 million and in
New Zealand $300,000.”
Latief said it was important for her to get outside her comfort zone and get involved in an initiative that is making a difference.
“There’s a lot that’s happened in my life and I just felt a strong urge to challenge myself and take a more active role in making a difference in other people’s lives,” she told the Weekender
“I just felt now was the perfect time for me to align my personal growth with a meaningful cause.
“Entering the Spirit to Cure, which our company Suncorp is partners with, I can also use that platform to spread awareness to my friends and family.
“Even if one person takes a moment to click the link and find out more about how they can contribute to the cause, I feel I’ve done my part.”
Latief said she was recently given some great advice.
Reflecting on that, she said it inspired her to lean in on opportunities because “you only get out what you put in”.
She said she was initially nervous about taking on the challenge, but now she is getting excited.
