Breathtaking northern landscapes are the setting of a free-spirited journey of self-discovery and nature love interpreted by a beautifully captivating Mathilda Gvarliani and seen through the whimsical eye of acclaimed British photographer Nigel Shafran. Characterized by a touch of his signature quirky wit, each photograph has a story of its own: coats dance to the sound of the wind, a hand puppet chats with the iconic Pasticcino Bag, a silk scarf becomes a colourful kite, a wooden fence the perfect prop, autumn leaves transform into showering rain and ducks and drakes are played mid-lake. This season our protagonist not only Lives in the Weekend Max Mara world, but becomes a Weekender in spirit. THE PASTICCINO BAG WORLD TOUR HAS MADE ITS WAY TO JAPAN FOR ITS THIRD STOP AFTER WOWING FANS IN VENICE AND PARIS. TREASURES OF JAPAN, THE LATEST CHAPTER OF THE CROSS-SEASONAL PROJECT, CELEBRATES THE COUNTRY’S RICH TRADITION IN THE ART OF TEXTILES AND KIMONOS THAT GOES BACK CENTURIES.
The collection features exquisite special-edition bags that are crafted with sumptuous silk jacquards culled from the historical archives of Kawashima Selkon Textiles, a Kyoto-based fabric manufacturer established in 1843 and further embellished by magnificent boule clasps that are hand-made by the craftsmen of the Bottega Nakamori-Kumihimo, an exclusive partner of “Ando Corporation” which has over 100 years of history in Kyoto.
With its wealth of certified artisans and combination of traditional techniques with advanced technology, Kawashima Selkon Textiles is renowned for its magnificent silks used to create the finest obis, formalwear and luxurious interior fabrics. Each of the Pasticcino Bags, available in six colour variants and two sizes, is crafted in luxurious fabrics that depict unique patterns in delicate pastels, shades of matte gold, rust, and caramel. And each design has a story to tell: a pale pink floral pattern symbolizes fertility and life, flowers and birds form stunning arabesques, a revisitation of a 1905 motif has Imperial inspirations, a bouquet of peonies, roses, and buttercups is at once delicate and ornate. The painterly nuances of the linings also evoke the interiors of kimonos.
Adding a precious touch, the signature boule clasps are handcrafted by craftsmen specialising in obijime and haori cords for four generations since the Bottega Nakamori-Kumihimo establishment in 1927. One of the second-generation family members received the Medal of Honour from the Japanese government in 2001 for her contribution to traditional craftsmanship. The clasps are meticulously crafted in their “bottega”, near Kyoto, with precious threads swathed around the ball in contrasting hues to create a graphic symmetrical effect.
