PROTECTING OUR HERITAGE

At Cocoon we are proud to include leading heritage organisations among our many happy customers. The unique properties of InvisiTherm® provide protection for some of our most precious buildings.

InvisiTherm’s® exceptional heat retention properties have been used to stabilise empty, unheated rooms in historic buildings, having the effect of greater usability of previously uninhabitable rooms during winter months. We can take the U-Value of a single glazed window from 5.5 to as little as 1.7: the same as double glazing.

InvisiTherm’s® UV properties completely eliminates ultraviolet fading, making it perfect for protecting artefacts, soft furnishings, paintings and furniture from sun damage. InvisiTherm® can be found in heritage properties across Scotland including Drum Castle and Inveraray Castle.

“We have to tell our members and visitors we have secondary glazing as it’s practically invisible. It’s now so easy to remove and clean the windows; this is a great benefit that we didn’t get from the traditional secondary glazing we’ve inherited.”

Dr Burke, National Trust

ENJOY A WARMER HOME TODAY

Experience the benefits of the most energy efficient secondary glazing on the market today: InvisiTherm® reduces heat loss by as much as 63%. We estimate a minimum saving of 22.5% on your energy bill for any room in which InvisiTherm® is installed.

How can we do that?

InvisiTherm® reduces U-Value from approximately 5.5 to 1.7. When calculating according to the guidelines laid out in DIN Standard 4701, an average annual saving of between 0.9–1.3 litres of oil or 1.0–1.5 m3 of gas per m2 of glazing area will be obtained by decreasing the K-value by 0.1 W/m2K

Don’t forget the draught proofing!

InvisiTherm® also provides instant draught-proofing for windows, increasing thermal comfort and reducing the warmup times for rooms.

“We have turned our night storage heaters down by 25% as our rooms were just too hot. We no longer hear the street noise at the annoying levels that we used to and last but by no means least, we sometimes even forget it is there.”

C Steel, Edinburgh

REDUCING EXTERNAL NOISE LEVELS

No one wants to live in a noisy home, but single glazed windows and poor performing double glazing can be exceptionally bad at reducing noise. InvisiTherm® reduces noise by a minimum of 58%: many of our customers experience far greater reductions in noise, up to 88%.

How can we do that?

InvisiTherm’s® unique polycarbonate is inherently noise reductive: ask your surveyor to demonstrate speaking with a sample in front of your face! We also install InvisiTherm® with a gap between the InvisiTherm® system and the primary window. The bigger the gap, the better the noise reduction, as the air between the two panes creates insulation against the outside noise, muffling it before it travels into a room.

“After 13 years of living here we are now, for the first time in winter, cosy and draught free.” D Pope, London

RETAINING THE BEAUTY OF ORIGINAL WINDOWS

So many people look at original windows as a liability: at Cocoon we want to encourage the public to see the asset in their historic windows. That’s why we created InvisiTherm® to combat the main issues of original windows.

Working Shutters

InvisiTherm® is fully compatible with working shutters, allowing you to experience the thermal benefit of our system and your shutters. In fact, research shows that using InvisiTherm® and shutters together gives a U-Value of just 1.1: that’s more efficient than double glazing! Innovation and tradition working in harmony.

Condensation

Condensation can be the bane of a traditional property owner’s life; and as well as being an eyesore, it can lead to damp and mould which is bad for our homes and our bodies. Luckily, InvisiTherm® reduces condensation by eliminating windows as the primary cold spot. So you can throw your condensation catcher away and enjoy a clear vista every day.

Ironmongery

Original ironmongery; those catches, pulls and handles add an extra special touch to original windows. Unlike some companies, we work around your original fixtures and fittings wherever possible, and also carry a range of traditional brassware to help complete the look of your windows effortlessly.

EASY ACCESS SYSTEMS EXPLAINED

We want to make using InvisiTherm® as simple as can be: that’s why we created the Easy Access System.

InvisiTherm® Easy Access Systems are installed in two parts over the window frame. This type of installation helps you access your primary window more easily.

It also helps you to store large window systems if you wish to remove them during warm weather or for maintenance. To create an Easy Access System we use sustainable hard wood beading, with a thicker bead across where the split is to be located. This effectively creates two discrete frames on which we can place our magnet and fit the systems.

InvisiTherm® Easy Access Systems can be fitted to windows with working shutters and are the perfect solution for anyone who wants regular access to their primary window.

“The install went well, a very noticeable difference in the heat retention: the friendly installers did a good job and cleaned up very well after themselves.”

F & G Smith, Inverness
