DGA310 Digital Animation Practice 3 Group Project DGA310/1 th Completion Date 27 Jan 2010
The Module This module builds on basic principles learned in stage 1 and will cover animation film development and research, animation processes, complex modelling, animation (2d and 3d), texturing, lighting and rendering techniques. Additionally you will explore the use of sound, complex animation tool sets, procedural modelling and animation systems, digital compositing, shaders and network rendering. Working in groups you will develop advanced research and development for an animated production (setting up a pipeline) including modelling tests, animation tests, lighting and effects tests, full render tests and comprehensive pre-production and production planning. This will lead to full production in Digital Animation Practice 4
The Script Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. No.
The Project Taking the above script as the starting point, this project is designed to push you creatively as an animator and to test your skills as part of a professional team. Working in groups of 3-5 you are required to produce an animation of 30-90 seconds to the best of your ability. The animation can be in any style, and you should use sound. You can be as creative as you like with the interpretation script. You are expected to work in groups for this task, and roles must be allocated within the group so you have a clear and appropriate job to do within the group. You are expected to work collaboratively and you must produce the animation using a structured pipeline. You must present your work in progress every week. Failure to do so will result in a loss of marks. One member of the group will take the role of the producer and take responsibility of the production ensuring deadlines are met. How you split up the roles in the rest of the group is up to you.
Delivery Materials The final material will be edited together and put onto a DVD and entered into film festivals. You should deliver your final animation as a HD 1920 x 1080 movie file and as a sequence of Tifs. Final delivery materials will be discussed for each project.
Key dates for the production: All important dates for hand in stages will be published on moodle.
Assessment Criteria. See the student course handbook for details of the assessment criteria. Assessment Evidence The group project will be assessed by an individual report that clearly describes your involvement and contribution to the project. The project will be set early on in the study block and you will work with a group to produce a comprehensive pre-production research and development package.
