INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL PIACENZA
AIR: Inhabited Interspaces Theme. Architectures for a Creative City OC Summer School presents a unified program for the 2014 and 2015 editions, starting from the main issue of Creativity and looking at 2015 Milano Expo “Great Event”, with a constant relationship, both real and virtual. It’s an occasion for a deep discussion about contaminations between architecture and use of resources.

Sophomore Studio Project
Instructor:
LOS ANGELES SOUTH PARK Circuit: Connection, Movement & Energy Cal Poly Pomona Interdisciplinary Urban Design Studio
ne
Vision Statement A circuit serves as the ideal model for the redevelopment of the South Park District. The new South Park is a place where connection, movement and energy are the basis for spatial interaction. Connection: In the new South Park users are connected to a multitude of experiences, places and systems. The new South Park opens the door to the nearby Staples Center and Broadway Boulevard as well as greenspaces within the district such as the Central Plaza and Wetland Park. In addition to physical places, South Park is a place of connection to systems. The greywater from residential towers helps create parks and water public trees and plantings. Likewise, South Park accommodates for a new trolley proposed by the City of Los Angeles as well as existing mass transit so that users can make connections between South Park and greater Los Angeles. Movement: Movement is utilized largely to make connection happen. People are encouraged to move about South Park and the surrounding neighborhoods through series of corridors that connect attractive public spaces. Movement also works to add character to the district as movement-oriented activity areas serve as the main focal point in the district’s Central Plaza. Energy: Energy results when movement and connection synthesize to enliven the district. Energy keeps movement alive and users in South Park throughout all hours of the day and seasons of the year. Through the design phase zoning was carefully chosen to craft this phenomenon so that there are attractions keeping users in the district at all times. In short, Connection, Movement and Energy are not independent faucets in the new South Park, but components of a larger Circuit synthesized until the individual elements can no longer be discerned as independent from one another. This is the model that will create the beauty, success and invigorating possibilities the City of Los Angeles should expect from this fine district.
