Sustainability: • Ceiling windows made collaboration and natural light relatively easy to incorporate. Accessibility: • An oversized circular table is intentionally too big for a single meeting or group lunch. • Desks allow designers and engineers to work shoulder-to-shoulder on their laptops and then feverishly cover the whiteboard and glass walls with their brainstorming notes. • Different monumental tables would require for people to invent new ways of organizing a meeting, occupying a war room, coming together for a collective lunch or throwing a party at the bar. Flexibility: • Each house serves two functions, for example, one includes a transparent meeting room on the ground floor and hosts a bar for the staff canteen on the level above. • Circular and rectangular tables were purposes built for different types of meetings. Flexible desk arrangements and service areas fill the spaces surrounding the enclosed volumes. • The white and glass surfaces can be used as whiteboards, pin-boards and graffiti walls for employees to share ideas. Eneco Headquarter Rotterdam MARTEN MEESWEG, THE NETHERLANDS

Commercial Design: Wei Interior Design Group
The Design Since 2014 the new Eneco headquarters building in Rotterdam is in use. The 14-floor, 25,000m2 office offers a revolutionary, dynamic, open, sustainable and healthy work environment for the Eneco employees and visitors. The heart of the building is a central atrium surrounded by a light-filled meeting center with a reception space, meeting rooms, working areas, informal meeting areas, lounges, a restaurant, a service desk and an auditorium. Sun collectors on the south façade and on the roof track the sun throughout the day, absorbing the maximum amount of solar energy. The working and meeting areas are designed to be energetic islands floating on an otherwise calm, light-white terrazzo floor. Some islands are open spaces and others enclosed for privacy but they are all executed with vibrant colors and materials. Those on the ground floor are red, purple and orange, while those on the first floor are in different shades of verdant green (meeting rooms) and blue (working spaces). Employees are drawn to these colorful islands across the white floor and ‘land’ on them to undertake work and hold discussions. The diversity of color and materials on the work islands are not only lively and inviting but they give the different spaces specific identities and atmospheres that enable people to orientate themselves better in the office. The Design The building is a focal point - a beacon - with its height representing aspiration and ambition in an otherwise flat suburban landscape. Its formal articulation is a visual language of stacked, linear blocks that rise and twist, resulting in a building that rather resembles a stack of books. Terraces and overhangs create a strong relationship to the surrounding landscape in terms of views, outside learning spaces and social gathering places. Sustainability Bioclimatic (the use of nature) design has been integrated into the overall design concept. Restricted room depths maximize the use of natural light, which reduces the reliance on artificial lighting for the majority of the day. The arrangement of the accommodation around a central atrium allows a considerable number of the teaching spaces to be naturally lit.
