What exactly IS Medical Thermography? Literally, “thermography” means “heat picture.” Medical thermography maps the heat patterns of the human body using a thermal imaging camera. Thermography is 100% safe. It involves no contact, is non-invasive and there is NO radiation! It has been approved by the FDA as an adjunctive screening process in medical applications since 1982. The concept is very simple. People are heat emitting bodies. The thermal imaging camera
captures the heat emitted by the body in the form of a “JPEG” image. The physicians that analyze the thermal images are looking for thermal (temperature) balance and they are looking for patterns. There are patterns associated with cardio-vascular and heart disease, thyroid and hormonal imbalance, environmental allergies, digestive disorders and food intolerances. Thermography detects the heat associated with Inflammation, or increased blood flow. The

body will send increased blood flow when it is healing, when it is fighting an infection, or if it is feeding a tumor. Essentially, the camera “sees” the heat associated with systemic inflammation. One of the b est know n applications for medical thermography is for women’s bre a s t h e a l t h s c re en i n g s . Many women are choosing thermography because it can detect the heat associated with the increased blood flow feeding a tumor years before it forms a mass detectable by other
modalities. Thermography can be used for early detection of developing physiological changes. The idea is that, thermography can detect the indicators of change before it progresses to a late stage in the disease process. Medical thermography is therefore most often used as a screening tool for preventive health.
