E THEM PARK

The Greater Meredith Program (GMP) will again host the 4th of July fireworks for the Town of Meredith. Atlas Pyro Vision Productions will bring an enhanced fireworks display to Meredith for this year’s celebration. The fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9:30 PM on Monday, July 4th from Meredith Bay. If inclement weather prohibits the display, the rain date is July 5th at 9:30pm. The GMP wants everyone to enjoy the fireworks display and safety is our first concern. To comply with safety regu-

lations, the Meredith Boat Ramp and Town Docks will be closed at 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm. In addition, Rt.3 from Lake Street to Rt. 25 will be closed at 8:30 pm and re-opened at approximately 10:30 pm. Traffic will be diverted from Rt.3 onto Lake St. and then to Main St. to avoid the closed section of Rt. 3. Thank you to residents and visitors for you cooperation during the set-up and display of the fireworks. The GMP extends their appreciation to Matt O’Neil of Meredith Marina for supplying a boat

used in the 2016 fireworks display. For public enjoyment, NOTEable Sound Reinforcement of Meredith will provide patriotic music from 8:309:30pm from the town docks parking lot. The Greater Meredith Program wishes everyone a very safe and happy 4th of July. The Greater Meredith Program (GMP) is a nonprofit community economic development organization seeking to enhance economic vitality, historical and cultural heritage, and town-wide beautification. .

The Best Summer Ever Starts Right Here!

“Sylvia Barks Its Way Into The Barnstormers Theatre Everything is going to the dogs at The Barnstormers Theatre on July 7th as they open their second show of the 86th season, with A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia - the hilarious comedy about what happens when a husband and wife add a dog to their mix. One critic called it “howlingly funny, another, “the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I’ve ever seen. If you have ever loved a dog-if you have ever known a dog-and even if you’ve only ever just seen a dog-this play is at once laugh-out-loud hysterical and charmingly poignant-offering a new take on the complicated terrain of the love triangle. “We are so pleased to bring this acclaimed show to The Barnstormers, said The Barnstormers Artistic Director, Bob Shea, “It’s a poignant story that is just a hilarious take on the middle age, mid-life crisis years. It’s quite relatableeven for those who haven’t yet reached middle age.

Sylvia is the story of what happens when middle-aged, upper-class Greg finds a dog in Central Park and brings her home to his wife Kate, who is enjoying her career and their empty nest. Greg, however, is not so satisfied with his current state, but his newfound canine companion apparently gives his life brand new purpose. The dog soon becomes Greg’s best friend, ruffling a few feathers at home. The result is side-splittingly funny. Best of all is the portrayal of the dog, Sylvia-a surprise you won’t want to miss. “Sylvia is a touching and hilarious comedy about a marriage in jeopardy, which is affected by the stray dog that wanders into their lives. It’s a very funny look at life that I’m excited to direct on The Barnstormers stage, said Paul Mrozka, director and Barnstormer veteran, having directed last season’s Good People, and 2014’s Glass Menagerie, among other Barnstormer favorites. The cast stars Barnstormer favorites Blair Hundert-

mark as Greg, Madeleine Maby as Kate, Doug Shapiro in multiple character roles, and Shayna Vercillo as the irrepressible Sylvia. The Barnstormers, a 282-seat, professional, Equity theatre founded in 1931, enjoys air conditioning, a hearing assist system and is wheelchair accessible. Tuesday - Saturday evenings and weekend matinees, tickets cost $12-$36 with group rates and package discounts available. Beer, wine and lemonade are available during intermission. Friday night is Family Night with special prices available day of the show. Check the website for other specials, where to dine and stay, and other Tamworth happenings. For more information and tickets, visit www.barnstormerstheatre.org or call the Box Office at 603-323-8500.

July 4th, Not So Pet Friendly How To Make July 4th Safe For Your Pet

The Fourth of July is one of the most stressful and potentially dangerous times of the year for pets. While you and your family, friends, and neighbors are celebrating the holiday with fireworks, pets are finding these festive activities anything but celebratory. Many pet parents assume that if their pet is not afraid of thunder or other loud noises, they will not be bothered by fireworks. This is not necessarily true. Even pets who normally are not bothered by thunder and other loud noises are often frightened and panicked by the cumulative effects of the fireworks, the excited voices outside, and being left alone inside the house. If pets are left outside and unattended, the noise and raucous often drives them to run away. In fact, the July 4th holiday is a very busy time for animal shel-

(877)-528-4104

ters across the U.S. They report taking in a higher number dogs that run off during firework festivities. In addition, many police stations log higher volumes of stray dog calls and barking complaints on July 4th compared to any other day of the year. By planning ahead and taking some common sense precautions, you can help ensure your pet is happy and safe this Fourth of July. 1. Do not take your pet to fireworks displays. 2. Do not leave your pet alone in the car during fireworks (or ever). With only hot air to breathe inside a car, your pet can suffer serious health effects even death in a few short minutes. Partially opened windows do not provide sufficient air, but they do provide an opportunity for your pet to be stolen. Leaving your pet alone in the car is never a good idea. However, if your pet is most comfortable in the car, some pet parents find that driving around with their pet in the car helps to calm their pet. 3 Keep your pets in your home in a comfortable and quiet area with the shades drawn. If your pet is crate trained, then his crate is a great choice. Some animals can become destructive when frightened, so be sure that you’ve removed any items that your pet could destroy or that would be harmful to your pet if chewed. Leave a television or radio playing at normal volume to keep your pet company while you’re attending Fourth of July picnics, parades, and other celebrations. 4.Consult vet for anxiety relief. If you know that your pet is seriously distressed by loud noises like thunder, consult with your veterinarian before July

4th for ways to help alleviate the fear and anxiety he will experience during fireworks displays. 5 If your pet seeks comfort in a bath tub, under a bed or other small space... let him. Do not try to lure him out. If the space is safe and it makes him feel more secure, let him be. 6.Never leave pets outside unattended. Even in a fenced yard or on a chain is not safe. In their fear, pets who normally wouldn’t leave the yard may escape and become lost, or become entangled in their chain, risking injury or death. 7. Make sure your pet is wearing identification tag. If your pet does run off, proper ID can help ensure a safe return. In addition, it is also recommended to microchip your pet. This is an added safeguard should your pet lose his ID tag. Animals found running at-large should be taken to the local animal shelter, where they will have the best chance of being reunited with their owners. Here’s to you and your pet having a happy and safe Independence Day! TripsWithPets.com is the premier online pet friendly travel guide -- providing online reservations at over 30,000 pet friendly hotels & accommodations across the U.S. and Canada.
