Taste New England’s Best Craft Beers in Wolfeboro

Beveridge Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, August 15th Have you had a tasty craft beer lately? Want to try some of the best of New England’s craft beers? Come to the Beveridge Craft Beer Festival on August 15th from Noon to 4pm at the Nick Recreation Park in Wolfeboro. Lisa Beveridge, owner of the Beveridge Craft Beer and Soap Co. at 51 N. Main Street in Wolfeboro, is bringing together 26 breweries from throughout New England. The Mangroves will be providing the music for the event. If you haven’t heard this local band yet, it’s a 4-piece jam band with a funky groove. Bring a lawn chair and relax while enjoying the beer and music. There will be plenty of tasty food to try with the beer. The Mill Street Meat Market will be on hand with delicious sliders. The Northeast Pie Company food truck will be there.

This Rochester-based food truck offers tasty savory and sweet pies from their popular meatball parm pie to their seasonal blueberry pie, there’s something for everyone. But save some room on your plate. Spider Web Gardens will be there with fresh corn on the cob. The After Burn Hot Sauce and Beef Jerky Company will also be there with all sorts of sauces to sample. Save room for dessert. The folks from Chris’ Wicked Ice Cream will be there with…you guessed it…beer ice cream. They partnered with Kelsen Brewing based in Derry, NH. Don’t miss their Paradigm Brown Ale with Caramel and Brownie. Kelsen’s flagship brown ale with a little chocolate and caramel to bring out the hoppy flavor of this Beer Advocate favorite. They also have their Draken Robust Porter Ice Cream

with Caramel and Heath Bar® and featuring Kelsen Draken Robust Porter Beer and their Double Battle Axe IPA Sorbet. Did you leave the dog behind? Bring your pooch a treat from Gunther’s Goodies – dog treats made with spent grains from breweries. Make it a day and enjoy the fun games and activities. There will be beer pong, corn hole, whiffle ball, and, of course, Frisbee. Want a work out before the event? Michelle Clarke from Full Moon Paddleboard is offering a Pre-Beer Fest Paddle Tour at 10am from Albee Beach in Wolfeboro. Contact Michelle at 603-731-8276 for more information or to register. Full Moon Paddle will also be on hand during the Beer Fest with their Tiki Toss Game.

The B e v e r i d g e Craft Beer Fest will benef i t Camp Sunshine in Casco, ME. The mission of Camp Sunshine is to provide respite, support, joy, and hope to children with lifethreatening illnesses and their immediate families. The year-round program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Although based in ME, families come from around the world to spend time at Camp Sunshine. “Growing up vacationing in Point Sebago, we were close to Camp Sunshine,” ex-

plained Lisa Beveridge. “It’s an amazing place that runs on volunteers and donations.” Beveridge went on to say that she used to volunteer at Camp Sunshine. Tickets are $30 per person in advance online at www.beerfests.com or at the Beveridge Craft Beer and Soap Store at 51 N. Main Street. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event for $40. You must be 21 or over to attend the festival (please bring your ID). This event will take place rain or shine.

“Lady of the Lake-The Lost Financial Records Featuring David Warren

On Wednesday, August 12th at 7pm, the Lake Winnipesaukee Museum is hosting a presentation, “Lady of the Lake-the Lost Financial Records, Featuring David Warren. A complete set of financial records from the 1880’s for the Lady of the Lake steamboat was recently discovered in a Wolfeboro attic. Beautifully penned by her clerk, Herbert Rogers, they document the activities of the boat and crew during a most fascinating period in our history. Coupled with a diary recorded by Herbert’s mother Sarah, that describes his activities on the boat at that time, we have a rare glimpse at ordinary life here in the lakes region in the 1880’s. During this talk, we’ll review the history of the Lady of the Lake, and then focus on her activities in the 1880’s. We’ll see

where people traveled for business, recreation and religious purposes, and learn what it took to get them there. We will also see how daily and seasonal travel patterns changed as tourism developed. In addition, we will see how the Lady interacted with other steamboats and responded to increasing competition from the SS

at the Bay

Mt. Washington. We will also look inside the operation of the Winnipiseogee Steamboat Co. and see what it took to feed the passengers, house the crew and supply copious quantities of wood for the boiler. This event is free for Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society members, for non members there is a $5 fee with all proceeds going to benefit the Historical Society’s ongoing renovations. We are located on Route 3 in Weirs Beach, next to Funspot. Please RSVP to 366-5950.

Agatha Christie’s “The Hollowat The Barnstormers Dr. Cristow’s life takes a sudden turn for the worse as the mistress of mystery Agatha Christie does it again in her whodunit “The Hollow at The Barnstormers Theatre, August 6-15. Barnstormer and Christie fans know how the Brits and Dame Agatha relish their weekends in the country, and the play opens with everyone landing for a lovely weekend at The Hollow, the home of Lady and Sir Henry Angkatell. Dr. Cristow and his wife arrive and, much to his horror, he realizes his ex and current lovers are there as well. Soon the “good doctor is dead, and everyone is a suspect. Dame Agatha once again gives her audience suspense and intrigue, peppered with bits of humor, in this unforgettable, summer theatre whodunit. “Agatha Christie and The Barnstormers are peas in a pod, said Artistic Director Bob Shea. “With this stellar cast, ‘The Hollow’ will have everyone on the edge of their seats until the curtain closes in this nailbiting and extremely witty drama. Longtime, local Barnstormer favorites in “The Hollow include Vinette Cotter, Robert Bates and Elizabeth Henle, Frank T.

Waterville Valley Offers Unique Challenge: Climb Five Mountains In A Single Weekend

Jeannings Peak - 3,460’

Mount Osceola - 4.340’ With more than a dozen 4,000-foot peaks surrounding Waterville Valley, New Hampshire contestants are being asked to climb five of them in a single weekend in a fun hiking challenge. This is Waterville Valley’s 5 Summit Challenge, a 20,000-foot total that is almost the height of the highest point in the U.S., Alaska’s Mount Denali. The event, nicknamed “The Denali Challenge” will be held August 1416 at the resort in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest. Waterville Valley’s proximity to some of New England’s highest peaks makes it a great location. Participants in the 5 Summit Challenge will hike (or attempt to hike) five peaks. There

will be a choice of 13 mountains to climb and the five peaks chosen must equal 20,000’ or higher. This year the peaks are: Tecumseh - 4,003’ Welch - 2,605’ Dickey - 2,734’ Snow’s - 2,800’ North Peak Tripyramid - 4,180’ Middle Peak Tripyramid - 4,140’ South Peak Tripyramid - 4,100’ Mt. A Day of Plein Aire Painting In Wolfeboro

! "

! ! !

The Governor Wentworth Arts Council announces its 6th annual day of Plein Aire painting. The Co-Chairmen, Debbie Hopkins and Madelyn Albee, want to call attention to the public and interested artists, that this event is being moved to Wednesday, August 19, with a rain date of Thursday, August 20 in downtown Wolfeboro. For the past 5 years it was held in September. Artists from across NewEngland are invited to check out the town’s many picturesque locations, set up their easels and enjoy a day of painting on location. Visitors can watch works of art being created and purchase pieces either during the day or at the close of the event from 2-3, when an hour of refreshments and music in the Community Bandstand will be enjoyed. Activities for children are also planned during the day. There will be watercolor kits, paper and brushes available for a donation and the well-remembered “Mouse Lady will be turning thumb prints into a mouse portrait, also for a fee. Interested artists are encouraged to learn more details and register by going to wolfeboroarts. org, or contacting Debbie Hopkins (603)5694994 or Madelyn Albee (603)569-1701. Artists pay $15.00 to participate and they keep 60% of the proceeds from the sale of their work. Any unsold paintings remain the property of the artist. Money raised from the event funds educational activities sponsored by the Governor Wentworth Arts Council, including grants to school and libraries in five local communities.

Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad And M/S Mount Washington Cruise Ship Partner With Tanger Outlets LINCOLN - Two of New Hampshire’s most popular Lakes Region attractions, the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad and the M/S Mount Washington Cruise Ship, are working with the 56-store Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton, NH to offer an affordable family activity and help reduce the cost of back-to-school shopping at the same time. Starting Monday, August 24th and available through Friday, August 28th, anyone who purchases tickets for the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad’s popular Rail & Sail excursion through their station in Meredith will receive a Gift Card voucher worth $10.00 as well as a valuable Coupon Booklet for the Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton. Referred to by many as the “Ultimate tour of Lake Winnipesaukeeâ€?, the Rail & Sail excursion harkens back to the late 1800’s when the Boston & Maine Railroad built and owned the original paddle steamer Mount Washington. The railroad brought adventurous tourists from New York and Boston north by train to enjoy New Hampshire’s largest lake during the summer months. By the late 19th century, it was quite common for the Mount Washington to transport well over 60,000 passengers in a single season. Today, the Rail & Sail excursion consists of a 2-hour train ride along the western shore of the lake aboard the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, a 2 ½ hour lake cruise aboard the M/S Mt. Washington Cruise Ship and time to enjoy the shops and arcades at Weirs Beach. The 6-hour adventure departs Meredith station located
