New England Pond Hockey Classic Returns To Lake Winnipesaukee by Brendan Smith Weirs Times Editor
The fourth Annual New England Pond Hockey Classic returns to Meredith, New Hampshire, Friday through Sunday, February 1st through 3rd. The brainchild of Scott Crowder, the Pond Hockey Classic has progressed from a simple idea into one of the most popular events
of the Central New Hampshire winter season. “The first year I limited it to seventy-seven teams,” said Crowder. “This year we will have two hundred teams with about fifty teams on the waiting list.” Scott grew up in a hockey family. His father, Bruce Crowder, played four seasons in the NHL as a forward for the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins
and later a college hockey coach. Scott graduated from UMass/Amherst in 2009, where he played hockey and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degrees in both Sport Management and Marketing. After college, Scott trained all summer to play in the Eastern Professional Hockey League. “I made it through train-
ing camp and then I was let go,” said Crowder. “After that I said to myself, ‘What can I do?’” Scott had always loved to play pond hockey and had spent his summers in the Lake Winnipesaukee area. “I thought it would be the perfect place for a pond hockey tournament,” said Crowder. “There were guys See hockey on 13

We Must Be Active To Have Our Voices Heard To The Editor: We are living in difficult times. Our economy as a nation, from federal level to our local communities, continues to choke many of our family households. Not only did our federal payroll tax recently go up, there are many more taxes headed our way on the state level. And of course this doesn’t include the taxes we pay on the county level. The 2013 Belknap County budget is up 9% and we are looking at an enormous project of a new county prison, something that will seriously impact each Belknap County family. Remember, each single tax by itself may not be much to look at, but when we begin to put all the taxes together, we can easily see we are in deep, deep financial trouble. How much have our food, gas and other necessities risen lately? My family, just like most in Belknap County, is facing tough choices in our household budgets, trying to juggle all the financial “pinches.” Town, county and state government should be doing the same and offering budgets which fit our current financial situation. And that means being fiscally responsible in budgeting and projects which will adversely affect our local citizenry. It has never been more important for us to keep our heads down, and stay on the target. We do not need to be angry or fear-

mongering. We can let others do that. But, we do need to be STEADFAST in our message. And that includes participation in public discussions on issues of fiscal conservatism. Being present at your town meetings, voicing your opinion at town deliberative sessions, and running for that open seat in town government is CRUCIAL to putting ourselves on the path toward fiscal sanity. No one can stand on the sidelines anymore. We must be present, be heard, and be active! Your participation does indeed make a difference. Have no doubt of that! Northern Pass To The Editor: In the November/December 2011 issue of Yankee Magazine there is an article: Battle Lines: The Northern Pass Energy Project where among other things these statements appear: “You need to know that most, if not all, of the electricity delivered via The Northern Pass wouldn’t remain in New Hampshire but would instead be distributed into the regionwide electricity market. You need to know that New Hampshire is already a net

exporter of electricity, producing about twice what its 1.3 million residents use, thanks in large part to the Seabrook nuclearpower plant. You need to know that The Northern Pass is a private, forprofit partnership among Hydro-Québec, NSTAR, and Northeast Utilities, PSNH’s parent company, which estimate that the project will generate more than $1 billion in annual revenue over the next 40 years.” These statements reflect much of what I have read about the NP project...so why does a Northern Pass spokesman say in an article [Northern Pass power line to profit on incentives] in the Manchester Union Leader Sunday Jan 13: “Northern Pass will reduce New Hampshire’s energy costs by $20 (million) to $35 million annually by displacing more expensive energy currently being consumed in the market with low-cost, renewable hydropower,”? Does “reduce New Hampshire’s energy costs” mean PSNH’s energy costs or PSNH ratepayer’s cost and or NH taxpayer’s costs? My guess is the prior not the latter...hmmmmm if so: nice feint. I’ve recently read that The Northeast Energy Link [NEL; Orrington, Maine to Tewksbury, Massachusetts] is 220 miles long and completely underground. I happened to notice the other day that National Weather Service has decided that it’s a smart idea to give names to winter storms. At first I thought it was just a joke. I heard Winter Storm Gandalf was blanketing the Midwest; perhaps a grand market scheme for the newest Hobbit movie. But then came Winter Storm Helen and I knew that something was up. As far as I’m concerned, this is a dangerous practice that will only add to the stress in certain people’s lives; maybe even put some over the edge. With all this talk lately about what makes people crazy, I feel that this practice has been overlooked. I’d even support an executive order to stop this madness. Maybe there already is one, there’s so many I get confused. I always thought it was bad enough that we have to give tropical storms and hurricanes people’s names; to now extend it out to winter storms is pretty cruel. Not far off from bullying as far as I’m concerned. I have yet to have any kind of storm named after me, and for that I am grateful. The implications for lifelong psychological damage from such a thing is mind-boggling. I have seen it myself . One day the person is fine, the next day‌well, you’ve seen the news.
say nothing about this new practice of naming winter storms, we might just empower these people in charge to expand even further. What’s to stop them from doing thus with earthquakes and tsunamis. Sure, it would be after the fact, but that wouldn’t make the person it was named after feel much better. I think it would be a much more practical idea to name hurricanes and winter storms after people who really deserve that credit like Hitler, Osama Bin Laden and Honey Boo Boo. If the knuckleheads at the National Weather Service really find it necessary to use people’s name to designate weather events, I would suggest doing it in a positive way. How many people do you think would have a problem having their name attached to a warm front or any other number of feel good weather events. I would have no trouble whatsoever with Tropical Breeze Brendan. You could take this out as far as you’d like and it would only make people happy. Imagine hearing this on the weather forecast: “It looks like the next five to six days will be nothing but warm weather with no sign of rain, we will call this Lisa. To think that something going on in the atmosphere that is going to make people have a great day will be forever related to your own name, can only bring about self-esteem. As always, I’m just doing my part to help and make the world a better place.

You can go though your life being a good person, do the best you can and never hurt anyone and then wake one morning to find that a storm, bearing your name, is taking aim at a land mass somewhere bringing with it the possibility of major destruction and even the loss of life. Might just put a damper on your day. Of course, no one wants to see any storm, any time, that causes damage, but they are inevitable. And when one comes, you hope it will be named after someone else. Even years after a devastating Hurricane, the effects of it are still felt by the name holders. Back in 1991, Hurricane Andrew wreaked big time havoc in Florida. Now, over twenty years later people still talk about it, and they often don’t even use the word “Hurricane.â€? “I haven’t seen anything this bad since Andrew,â€? the newscaster might say. Anyone named Andrew will now be suspect to anyone under the age of twenty. Are you the Andrew that nothing has been as bad since? To Andrew’s all over the country an uninvited burden has now come to rest upon their shoulders. None of them asked for this. I feel a lot of sympathy right now for anyone named Sandy; the rest of your lives will now be completely different, through no fault of your own. And what about Iago? I personally don’t know anyone with this unusual name, but the latest winter storm (as I write this) is named this. If I’m not mistaken, Iago was also the name of a hurricane back in 2011. To all the Iago’s out there‌.my deepest sympathies. If we just sit back and

GOP Needs Renewal Not Reinvention
Ever since November’s election loss, there has been the expected infighting for a losing party seeking to imby Kevin Shafer prove its electoral chances Contributing Writer for the future. There’s been the inevitable finger pointing between various wings of the party. I think for some this is an attitude of unnecessary panic over what was a close election in which Mitt Romney was defeated largely via a well-executed character assassination campaign from an incumbent president and his campaign. Romney was not a perfect candidate, but he was a man of good character whose ideas and policy vision was embraced by a majority of voters,
even as his personal lack of favorability (thanks in large part to the Obama campaign) with most voters ultimately doomed him. The larger problem that doomed Romney’s campaign— the lack of a compelling definition of his personal character and what makes him tick and relate to the average voter (his BRAND) – is symbolic of a larger branding problem that the GOP has with swing voters. Republicans have good principles. Most Americans are conservatives or moderates and conservatives still way outnumber liberals at the polling booth. But in politics, principles only take you so far unless they are branded into a message that addresses the needs of the average swing voter. Generally, today’s swing voter is not ideological and lives in the suburbs. Republicans do well in rural See shafer on 26
Anti-American Asians Don’t Speak for Me Martial arts movie legend Jackie Chan deserves a rhetorical roundhouse kick to the mouth. So does his pal PSY, the Koby Michelle Malkin rean rapper Syndicated Columnist whose “Gangnam Style” music video has racked up more than a billion views worldwide. Both men have raked in big bucks from Western fans while trashing the very freedoms and cultures that made them superstars. Last week, The Washington Post spotlighted a recent interview Chan did with Chinese TV in which he accused America of being “the most corrupt country in the world.” The Hong Kong-born Chan also admitted proudly that he is a propagandist for the Communist Chinese government. He openly advised his fellow countrymen to speak with forked tongues when addressing foreign press: “We know our country has many problems. We (can) talk about it when the door is closed. To outsiders, (we should say) “our country is the best.” Translation: Rampant sex-selection abortions? Shhh. Jailing political dissidents? La, la, la, can’t hear you! Systemic religious persecution? State-sanctioned censorship? Continued brutality against Tiananmen Square protesters and Tibetans? Nothing to see here, move along, and down with America! Turns out that behind the jovial cinematic persona, Chan is an unrepentant champion of authoritarian rule. Despite
making a living as an entertainer and “humanitarian,” Chan suffers a severe allergic reaction to freedom of speech and freedom of thought. In a separate interview last month with China’s Southern People Weekly, he complained that Hong Kong had become a city of too many protests. “There should be regulations on what can and cannot be protested,” Chan declared. Earlier in 2009, Chan echoed Chinese Communist leaders in asserting that Chinese people “need to be controlled” because “if we are not being controlled, we’ll just do what we want.” God forbid! This contempt for freedom of expression comes from an international box-office mogul who has topped the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list and has an estimated net worth of more than $130 million. Even more damning, Chan’s own personal history is defined by the turmoil of Mao’s Cultural Revolution. As the 2003 documentary “Traces of a Dragon” recounted, Chan’s father and mother both fled China for Hong Kong to escape Communist rule. They left behind their original spouses and four children between them. Instead of condemning the regime that wrought havoc on his family and imposed suffering and death on millions of innocents, Chan is China’s most prominent mainstream apologist. Meanwhile, moviegoers in the “most corrupt country in the world” continue to help make Chan a wealthy man. This summer, his latest movie, “Chinese Zodiac,” will hit U.S. theaters. Sylvester Stallone has invited him to co-star in the

Washington has the collective attention span of a fruit fly. This condition is exacerbated by the Obama administration’s by Oliver North proclivity for deSyndicated Columnist claring selective events and issues to be crises that require immediate action. The problem is aggravated because the loyal opposition is in nearly total disarray, and few in the socalled mainstream media have any idea what they are talking about. That’s the summary assessment of many attending the annual Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show here in Harry Reid’s Nevada. Note to editors and broadcast producers: The SHOT Show isn’t a gun show. Nobody here can buy or sell a single firearm. There are guns here -- and tents, boats, clothing, boots, camping gear, all-terrain vehicles, SUVs, bows, arrows, fishing tackle and all manner of police and equipment -- even high-tech wheelchairs for outdoor activities. The SHOT Show
isn’t open to the public -- only to representatives of the industries above, professional outfitters, law enforcement officials and military suppliers and contractors. My first SHOT Show, in 1992, was as the manufacturer of specialty armor and ballistic protective equipment for law enforcement and our military. This year, I came to represent the Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee of the National Rifle Association. Freedom Alliance sent our outreach coordinator to explore additional outdoor activities to help America’s military heroes recover from the wounds of war. Trade shows are really nothing more than an opportunity for members of an affinity group to meet and exchange ideas on new products and services, challenges facing their industry, and what works and what doesn’t to stay in business. There are more than 90,000 trade and professional associations in the U.S., and nearly all of them have gatherings with ample opportunities for fruitful conversations among like-minded people seeking solutions to common challenges. Liberalism Versus Blacks There is no question that liberals do an impressive job of expressing concern for blacks. But do the intentions expressed in their words by Thomas Sowell m a t c h t h e Syndicated Columnist actual consequences of their deeds? San Francisco is a classic example of a city unexcelled in its liberalism. But the black population of San Francisco today is less than half of what it was back in 1970, even though the city’s total population has grown. Severe restrictions on building housing in San Francisco have driven rents and home prices so high that blacks and other people with low or moderate incomes have been driven out of the city. The same thing has happened in a number of other California communities dominated by liberals. Liberals try to show their con-
cern for the poor by raising the level of minimum wage laws. Yet they show no interest in hard evidence that minimum wage laws create disastrous levels of unemployment among young blacks in this country, as such laws created high unemployment rates among young people in general in European countries. The black family survived centuries of slavery and generations of Jim Crow, but it has disintegrated in the wake of the liberals’ expansion of the welfare state. Most black children grew up in homes with two parents during all that time but most grow up with only one parent today. Liberals have pushed affirmative action, supposedly for the benefit of blacks and other minorities. But two recent factual studies show that affirmative action in college admissions has led to black students with every qualification for success being artificially turned into failures by being mismatched with colleges for the sake of racial body count. Few countries have been in the cross hairs of violence as has been Pakistan, so it should come as no surprise that in the Security Council’s urgent meeting to discuss “A Comprehensive Approach to Counter-Terrorism, “ featured Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who led the debate. The meeting came on a day when unnamed terrorists bombed Syria’s Aleppo University killing
88 students, a week after 100 Pakistani civilians were killed in violent attacks, as Al Qaida kidnapped of over forty foreign nationals at a natural gas facility in Algeria, and to the backdrop of French military operations being launched against Islamist Al Qaida- aligned rebels in the West African state of Mali. “One lesson we have learnt is that a lopsided or one-dimensional approach will not work as we try to defeat this hydra-headed monster of terrorism. This is truly a global threat. Our strategies and responses must also be global,” Minister Khar implored. As a female Foreign Minister in a heavily Islamic Pakistani society, Hina Rabbini Khar through her presence poses a challenge to many of the militants. protein. When your stomach acid is “turned off, you can’t digest well. Say someone eats a piece of chicken; it lands in the stomach, and needs hydrochloric acid to break it down. If there isn’t enough of that acid the protein sits in the stomach and starts to putrefy, creating acid and gases. Now, the person might have some symptoms – sour stomach, belching, or even acid reflux. But, it all happened because there wasn’t enough acid to digest properly. If there’s enough stomach acid, the upper sphincter closes when you’ve eaten to prevent that good acid from going up into the esophagus. It also opens the lower sphincter to empty your stomach. If you don’t have enough acid, not only can you not digest the protein; the upper sphincter does not close causing acid reflux and potential damage to the esophagus. For help in choosing proper digestive aids call the Fink Chiropractic and Natural Improvement Center, 783 Elm Street, Laconia, 603-524-4555. Dr. Jeffrey L. Davis, Dr. Thomas H. Last year, the warm weather forced the tournament to move from Meredith Bay to Lake Waukewan and Scott and his crew pulled it off. “I really have to thank Bill Blanchette from LaValley Middleton,” said Crowder. Blanchette opened up the back of his facilities grounds, which are along Lake Waukewan to the tournament. “Bill really was the guy in the cape who saved us last year.” Said Crowder. This year, with 200 teams, there will be twenty-two rinks with approximately fourteen hundred players. Half of those players are between the ages of thirty and fifty. PHC commissioner Scott Crowder. arrive on Thursday, January 31st, for tournament check-in, making it a four day, three night event. “The local community has been great,” said Crowder. “Even the ice fishermen who weren’t used to this in the past have come up to me and told me how much they enjoy it because it gives them something to look at when they are on the lake. We’re not trying to change the culture of the community but to add to it.” Scott also has seen sponsorship in the tournament grow over the years. Locally Mills Falls, The Common Man, HK Powersports, MB Tractor, Olympia Sports and Crosspoint Associates – owners of Meredith Bay Shops with Hannafords. Nationally Labatts Beer, Old Time Hockey, Manplow, Muscle Milk, Hockey Soda Energy, Pure Hockey, Hockey Tape Online and Bauer Hockey have been supporting the tournament. Bauer will be running a skills competition on Thursday, January 31st, in front of Lago restaurant.

Even as the tournament has grown, Scott still handles it all with a small crew. He has partnered with Sports Management Directors at Southern New Hampshire University, Plymouth State and UMass/Amherst. Scott’s fiancée, Chelsea, handles a lot of the public relations. He also has an ice crew of two guys and everyone else involved is a volunteer or intern. The success of the New England Pond Hockey Classic has caught on. It was the first in New Hampshire and now there are four others in the state. Last year Scott started another pond hockey tournament on Lake Champlain in Vermont with fiftytwo teams. This year that tournament is projected to have a hundred teams. Still, as the popularity of the pond hockey tournament grows, Scott still keeps focused on what it is really all about. “This is really about giving all these players a weekend to come out and have some fun.”

greatly exceeds their concern about what actually happens to flesh and blood human beings as a result of their ideology. One of the most polarizing and counterproductive liberal crusades of the 20th century has been the decades-long busing crusade to send black children to predominantly white schools. The idea behind this goes back to the pronouncement by Chief Justice Earl Warren that “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.” Yet within walking dis-
tance of the Supreme Court where this pronouncement was made was an all-black high school that had scored higher than two-thirds of the city’s white high schools taking the same test -- way back in 1899! But who cares about facts, when you are on a liberal crusade that makes you feel morally superior? To challenge government-imposed racial segregation and discrimination is one thing. But to claim that blacks get a better education if they sit next to whites in school is
something very different. And it is something that goes counter to the facts. Many liberal ideas about race sound plausible, and it is understandable that these ideas might have been attractive 50 years ago. What is not understandable is how so many liberals can blindly ignore 50 years of evidence to the contrary since then. The two most recent books that show this with hard facts are “Mismatch” by Richard Sander and Stuart Taylor, Jr., and “Wounds That Will Not Heal” by Russell K. Nieli. My own book “Affirmative Action Around the World” shows the same thing with different evidence. In all these cases, and many others, liberals take positions that make them look good and feel good -- and show very little interest in the actual consequences for others, even when liberal policies are leaving havoc in their wake. The current liberal crusade for more so-called “gun control” laws is more of the same. Factual studies over the years, both in the United States and in other countries, repeatedly show that “gun control” laws do not in fact reduce crimes committed with guns. Cities with some of the tightest gun control laws in the nation have murder rates far above the national average. In the middle of the 20th century, New York had far more restrictive gun control laws than London, but London had far less gun crime. Yet gun crimes in London skyrocketed after severe gun control laws were imposed over the next several decades. Although gun control is not usually considered a racial issue, a wholly disproportionate number of Americans killed by guns are black. But here, as elsewhere, liberals’ devotion to their ideology

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 30 percent of abused and neglected children will grow up to victimize their own children.” According to a recent study by another Wake Forest researcher, doctoral student Jacquelyn Grace, many scientists believe that this cycle may have the same root in both birds and humans due to the fact that stress hormones surge after bird abuse. ”It’s fascinating that what many would consider an extremely complex human phenomenon is also occurring — perhaps through the same physiological mechanism — in Nazca boobies, which are more closely related to crocodiles than mammals,” Grace said in a statement. “Both studies suggest Nazca boobies might be a good model system to begin understanding the mechanisms underlying the cycle of violence in humans.” The next time you see bird activity at your bird feeders, consider what you are seeing. Every now and then a survey or scientific study arrives in our mailbox that requires a comment. This is one of those times. A new study has determined that birds that are abused during the maturation stage are very likely to become bullies as adults, similar to studies done relating to humans. (I can only hope by brother reads this study…) Off the coast of Ecuador, on the Galapagos Islands, seabirds known as Nazca boobies live in colonies. Observations have shown that adults often beat up on their neighbors’ young. This new research has ascertained that these bullied nestlings turn into domineering, harassing adults. “We were surprised by the intense interest that many adults show in unrelated young, involving really rough treatment,” study researcher Dave Anderson, a Wake Forest University biologist, said in a statement. “A bird’s history as a target of abuse proved to be a strong predictor of its adult behavior.” The mostly female bullies scout around the breeding colonies, waiting for parents to leave their offspring as the search for food begins. Then the adults pounce on the young birds, biting, pecking and even making sexual advances. The article continues that: “The young are often left stressed and bleeding three breeding seasons, as nestlings grew up and returned to their birthplace to lay their own

Republicans are much better off outlining solutions then reciting red meat sound bites. key issues of economic empowerment and does so in a way that inspires more to join the party, rather than just throw out red meat to rev up a shrinking and aging base. And unless the average voter understands how conservatism helps lift them up, then unfortunately they will continue to gravitate to Democrats who offer them bad solutions to their problems. Let’s take immigration as an example. Illegal immigration is an important issue in many different dimensions—culturally and economically. Republicans are absolutely correct and are in line with most Hispanics and other legal immigrants when they say that illegal immigration is wrong and should be stemmed. But for many in the immigrant community (and this goes beyond just Hispanics to Asians too), this is a personal issue. They have friends, neighbors and relatives who came to America illegally not because they wanted to hurt America, but because they wanted a better life for themselves and their families - the same motivation that brought our ancestors to America. But too often in some conservative circles, especially the talk radio crowd, illegal immigrants are not cast that way. They’re cast

as hordes trying to take away our American jobs and culture. That tone is wrong and it alienates not just Hispanics, but suburbanites of all races who have good friends and family who are immigrants. Republicans should drop that tone and outline ideas that do not further more illegal immigration, but fix the broken legal immigration system that too often incentivizes illegal immigration. Republicans should push a version of the DREAM Act that unlike the President’s DREAM Act doesn’t encourage more illegal immigration but helps children of illegal immigrants succeed in America. Republicans should push to make immigration a magnet for students in high-skilled fields to come to America and strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit that has defined America. These are just starters, but it all begins with tone. If people do not feel like they are on your side, they will feel like even good policy ideas are political ploys and some will turn away from them. Every idea proposed must come with a conservative value behind it that can match the value of that community. Conservatives believe in family values, so we don’t want to break apart immigrant families. Conservatives believe in entrepreneurship, so we want to encourage people to come to this country and live out their skills and talents. Conservatives believe in the rule of law, so we want to fix a broken legal immigration system and discourage illegal immigration. What the GOP does not need is more finger pointing and casting blame. What the GOP needs is a branding transformation- one that utilizes conservative principles to address the issues of the electorate in a clear and compelling way that adds more to the party tent, rather than shrinking it into political oblivion.

this year’s SHOT Show are no different. What was different this year was what was happening in Washington and, to a lesser extent, in Albany, N.Y., where Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed new “gun control” legislation into law Jan. 15. Nearly everyone I spoke with understood that New York’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement
Act and the 23 directives issued the following day by the president were going to affect their business. The common refrain was: “How is (insert new measure here) going to stop bad people from doing bad things?” These are not cynical questions. They are serious inquiries from serious people who see their businesses -- and the employment of hundreds of thousands of our coun-

Maybe that’s their real objective.” At 3-Gun Nation’s “Rumble on the Range” -- where competitors are scored on speed and accuracy in firing a shotgun, a handgun and a rifle -- one of the competitors, a U.S. Marine, observed: “This sport cannot happen with small-capacity magazines. Too bad Cuomo and Reid aren’t here to explain why this is a bad thing.” Citizens of the Empire State must now go elsewhere to practice and participate in three-gun competitions. And finally, there were numerous complaints that “nobody in politics or the media knows what an ‘assault weapon’ really is.” Perhaps. But there is an organization that does: the National Rifle Association. If the numbers are right, more than 100 million Americans own firearms. Yet only 4.5 million of us are members of the NRA. trymen -- jeopardized by hasty, ill-conceived regulations that will not achieve the goal of a safer society. That’s not to say there is universal opposition to what the White House announced Jan. 16. In two days here at the SHOT Show, I’ve had hundreds of conversations with participants. A few observations: There is widespread support for the NRA’s proposal to put police officers in schools. All here endorse the idea of keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals and mentally unstable individuals who pose a danger to others. The ideas of pursuing and prosecuting “straw purchasers” of firearms and giving longer sentences to those convicted of violent crimes have wide appeal. There were, of course, some who suggested that Attorney General Eric Holder might have to prosecute himself for the straw purchases he authorized in his ill-conceived “Fast and Furious” gunrunning scheme. The NY SAFE Act requires law-abiding citizens to pass a background check before being able to purchase ammunition of any kind. One retailer points out: “There is no mechanism for making

twice as long as the NP project, and completely underground and underwater - no towers. If these subterranean claims are true, this begs the question: Who’s scamming who here? As I’ve said before in these spaces: NH Rep. Larry Rappaport has filed bills to help everyone in NH: First: that all new electric transmission lines in New Hampshire be buried. Second: that electric transmission lines in New Hampshire must use State transportation rights of way whenever possible. Presumably, the State would collect rental fees or lease payments [for these rights of way]. The $80 million increase to NH’s revenue stream is a guesstimate based on current rates elsewhere. Mr. Rappaport’s plan is a win-win: The NH countryside the backbone of NH tourism remains unchanged, The USA gains energy from a non hostile supplier, Concord’s revenue is enriched to levels beyond any one’s wildest dreams: no more nickel and dime tax increases: NH state budget is balanced in one fell swoop! And perhaps the town of Franklin continues on a winning track with the retention of the proposed energy distribution center. Suggest everyone contact our state reps (Google NH state reps to find) and ask them to support Mr. Rappaport’s bills. Dave Rivers Thornton, NH.

next installment of “The Expendables.” And Chan is working on another Hollywood project involving his popular “Police Story” series. Will American consumers allow themselves to be punched in the gut by this trash-talking action star? If the embrace of Chan’s new pal PSY is any indication, the answer is yes. The Korean “Gangnam Style” performer once urged listeners to “kill those (expletive deleted) Yankees ... kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-inlaw and fathers.” Called out on the hate lyrics, he issued a hasty apology before performing for the president and his family last month. Instead of rejection, PSY continues to be courted by the American entertainment industry. He’ll be working with Justin Bieber’s producer and will make an appearance in a high-profile ad for pistachios during the Super Bowl.
At a Hong Kong awards show last month, Chan and PSY met for the first time. It was a mutual admiration society. “You are the legend,” Chan said to PSY as a young audience cheered on. “One day you can make your dream come up. All the young people, never give up. One day your dream may come true, just like him. So proud of you.” “Yankees” -- especially those whose parents came to the United States from all parts of Asia seeking freedom from tyranny -- should shun these exploitative peas in an anti-American pod. They don’t speak for me. Michelle Malkin is the author of “Culture of Corruption: Obama and his Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks and Cronies” (Regnery 2010). Her e-mail address is malkinblog@ gmail.com.

The Capitol Center For The Arts Presents One-Man Star Wars Trilogy Sunday February 17th At 1pm & 4pm
Get your light sabers ready because Charles Ross is bringing his wildly entertaining One-Man Star Wars Trilogy to the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord on Sunday, February 17, at 1pm & 4pm as part of the CCA’s new family series Showtime Sundays. One Man Star Wars Trilogy, is a hilarious hyperdrive voyage through Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in 60 minutes. There is a catch. The show only has one cast member. In his hilarious, kinetic solo piece, Canadian writer/performer Ross plays all the characters, recreates the effects, sings from John Williams’ score, flies the ships, and fights both sides of the battles from the original Star Wars trilogy, punctuating his virtuosic performance with captivating factoids and editorial asides. No costumes, no props, no sets – just Ross using his yoga-limber body, remarkable knack for voices, subtle changes in facial expression, and manic levels of energy to put his own distinct stamp on the Star Wars universe. Whether
childhood in a galaxy far, far away? Well, let’s just say that by age 10, he had seen the first Star Wars film more than 400 times and committed virtually every line to memory. Ross has since parlayed this childhood obsession into a one-of-kind theatrical piece, which he has performed in more than 180 cities around the globe and has even appeared at George Lucas-endorsed Star Wars Conventions. Where does he get his strength? It flows from the Force, of course. Individual tickets are $20 and tickets purchased in groups of four or more are $16.25. Tickets are available now by calling 603225-1111, online at www.ccanh. com, and at the box office, located at 44 South Main Street, Concord, NH 03301, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11am. to 6pm, and Saturday 11am to 2pm. One-Man Star Wars Trilogy performed with permission of Lucasfilm Ltd. All Star Wars elements property of Lucasfilm Ltd. All rights reserved.
Charlie Ross will play all the characters in the One Man Star Wars Trilogy at the Capitol Center For The Arts in Sunday, February 17th at 1 & 4pm. you carry your own light saber or merely enjoyed the movies, this tribute will be appreciated by Droids and Jedis alike.
