Running For Gilford School Board To The Editor: My name is Michelle Tyler. Yes, the same name you have been seeing on Facebook, the one running for a seat on the Gilford School Board. Why, you ask? For my children. Period. We have been extremely lucky in this town that the current School Board has given our children a pretty darn close to normal experience given the pandemic. I advocated from the start for our kids to be in person, full time; when others advocated for remote learning or hybrid models. Yes, it was difficult, but our children have not suffered learning loss as drastically as other districts. This is so important to remember. We need to stay on a track that focuses on our children’s education; not intervening with personal medical choices. I look forward to moving past this pandemic and bringing back focus to education. It is my belief that creating a curriculum advisory committee consisting of expert staff and taxpayers is how we accomplish this. We need to work together to bridge the gap between where students should be academically, from where they are now. In addition, when it comes to academic achievement there is always room for improvement, and I would task this committee in seeking that out. To learn more, visit my website at Tyler4Gilford.us. When it comes to parental rights; making it easier for parents to engage and know what is happening in our classrooms is

a must. Parents are the greatest support in education; knowing what is best for their children. I will fight to maintain that their voice be heard and that they are well informed by continuing to video feed public meetings and other measures. Facilitating this will be one of my action items if elected to the board. Moving into the next year there are many important topics up for vote that have an impact on budget. As a fiscally responsible candidate I will do my due diligence to make sure money is spent wisely, knocking down the excess spending smartly and taking the surplus we already have into account to keep our tax bills from rising year to year as they are trending. There are many additional “management” roles that a member of the school board is responsible for and if you cast your vote for me on Tuesday, March 8th, you will not be disappointed as I am confident, I have the experience needed to more than qualify for this role. I am a parent. I am educated. I get things done. I am invested. I am informed. I listen. I am open minded. I am realistic. Vote Tuesday March 8th! NH Vacation week is the week before. Please consider filling out an absentee request ASAP to make your voice heard. Ballots are ready! Visit Tyler4Gilford.us to learn more. Every vote counts! Michelle Tyler Gilford, NH.

Democrats Don’t Care To the Editor: It’s great to see Democrat politicians finally caring about protecting lives, property, and borders. Unfortunately for most Americans, Democrat politicians only care about their own lives, their own office buildings, and the Ukraine’s border, not the lives and property of most Americans. Democrat Senators, Congressmen, Governors, and Mayors voiced little or no condemnation and took few steps to stop the Democrat activists’ riots in 2020 which: murdered dozens of people; injured thousands of civilians and police; caused about $2 billion worth of damage to public and private property; and damaged, looted, or totally destroyed thousands of businesses. These riots destroyed hundreds of neighborhoods, including many poor and minority neighborhoods. Hundreds of thousands of people were injured, lost their jobs, lost their businesses, or now have to spend scarce time and money traveling to distant stores since their local stores were destroyed. Most Democrat leaders ignored, excused, or encouraged the rioters to continue the criminal actions that hurt people and destroyed property. They refused President Trump’s offer of Federal law enforcement to help end the riots. Many Democrats attacked the police for protecting lives and property; Nancy Pelosi called them “Storm Troopers”. Kamala Harris urged people to contribute funds, not to support victims of the riots, but to bail out the See MAILBOAT on 26

The committee rooms of the New Hampshire legislature in February of 1905 were said to be buzzing with talk about a hedgehog bill that, if passed into law, would end the bounties paid to hedgehog killers. The legislature of 1903 had passed a bill which allowed the towns of New Hampshire to be paid 25 cents for each hedgehog killed in their towns. The nose of each hedgehog was required to be presented to the town officials by the hedgehog assassins as proof of the kill. The 1904 legislative bill, which if passed would end the bounty, came out of committee with both majority and minority reports. The Ashland Citizen reported that “The majority report favored the repeal of the law, while the minority contended that the state had paid for the clearing out the pests and it would be money thrown away to stop now and let them increase.” A total of 25,288

During my childhood I heard the talk about cheaters making fake porcupine noses, the proof presented to selectman that a porcupine had been killed, out of the pads of the animals feet. Somehow, a procedure conducted to add “nostrils” could increase the number of hedgehogs a person was paid for. Porcupines were considered pests because the damage they do See SMITH on 24

Soft Plastics Collection Day In Gilford

“Long Boathouse” by Peter Ferber.

Peter Ferber Gallery Show At The Art Place On Saturday, February 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m., The Art Place in downtown Wolfeboro will hold its semi-annual Peter Ferber Gallery Show featuring new original paintings by well-known, local artist Peter Ferber. We are always excited to see what Peter has on the “drawing board” each time. Peter has been showing at The Art Place for over 30 years! Peter’s artwork often includes scenes of the Lakes Region, nostalgic and familiar. “It’s not just about the familiar visual scene when looking at Peter Ferber’s paintings, it’s about the many feelings one gets from viewing his beautiful artwork, says Barbara Gibbs, owner of The Art Place.” Peter has this to say about his upcoming show: “Strong, saturated color characterizes many of the new paintings in this show. I never set out with a particular theme or approach, but look over the array of subjects that have gotten my attention, and then see which of those are rising to the top. By that I mean, which images are forming themselves into paintings in my mind–what a painting can bring out or bring to a subject in an interesting and beautiful way. For some reason this time the paintings came to me in strong, rich colors. So there are a lot of deep blues and greens to be seen. Among these are several evening scenes, a time of day that is very appealing to me in its beauty and restfulness. All of this seems to come about without conscious direction on my part. This is an aspect of inspiration that I channel into my work, and it always surprises and delights me!” Peter continues, “I had some wonderful times out and about on the lake in the late summer and fall–beautiful clear, sunny days, which these rich colors convey–so that may be what prompted this direction. Another unplanned result of this is that there are many more oil and acrylic

paintings than usual in this show–about half–and even the watercolors have strong color schemes. One of my favorite pieces, though, is strong in its reserved use of color. It’s a portrait of a ram on a farm in our neighborhood. This image has been forming in my mind for a number of years. I left most of the paper white, only bringing out subtle colors in his face, horns and chest, letting the rest of his white fleece fade into the white background. A bit of a departure from my usual work, which I hope people will enjoy. For the most part you will find my expected scenes that never seem to run out–boats (motor and sail), boat houses, cottages, and lake views. There are a couple of nods to the beauty of winter, but the rest are warm summer images that we all can enjoy this time of year!” Peter has exhibited in over 60 shows in New England and the Midwest. More than 150 reproductions of his work have been made, including over 80 limited edition prints. Although the scheduled showing of his artwork begins on February 19, If necessary there is a snow date of February 20th, beginning at 11 a.m. Peter Ferber’s Gallery Show at The Art Place will be on display through March 5, or as long as paintings are available. The Art Place is the exclusive gallery for Peter Ferber’s original artwork, and produces most of his limited edition prints. The Art Place has been serving the Lakes Region since 1975 with fine art and custom framing. The Art Place is located at 9 North Main Street, downtown Wolfeboro, NH, and is open year round. Business hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 to 5. For more information, please call 603 569- 6159 or toll free 866 569-6159. *A FLATLANDER’S OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE

A Private Person Brendan has off this week so we are reprinting this article from 2011. It also appears in his book “The Best Of A F.O.O.L.” by Brendan Smith

It was a beautiful Friday evening. Work was done for the day and I was relaxing on a bench outside a local Chinese restaurant where I was waiting for some take out. The slow movement of traffic on the road nearby made a strangely soothing sound and the vista of mountains in the background was engulfed in a fuzzy haze due to the muggy weather. As I sat and took it all in, I was also contemplating my column for this week; perhaps a jab at something in Washington, D.C. There is always something funny going on there to write about. Maybe I could use this week’s column to announce, once again, my candidacy for governor. These ideas gestated in my mind as the surroundings began to put me into a peaceful daze. Then the door to the restaurant opened and my trance was interrupted. I looked up. A man had emerged and began walking towards his car. He stopped and looked at me. “Hey,” he shouted, though he was three feet away. “Aren’t you that guy from the newspaper?” At first, coming out of my reverie, I was unsure of what he had said. I didn’t answer but nodded my head slightly. “I’m going to read your column tonight,” he said, as though I had been anxiously awaiting that sign of approval. “I like what you write…sometimes.”

Live Free or Die.

With that he got into his truck, which had Massachusetts plates, and drove off. Soon after that another gentleman came through the restaurant door, looked over, nodded slightly and made his way to his car. I noticed it had New Hampshire plates. Being a famous columnist does have its moments. There are autograph hounds and paparazzi lurking at every corner. When I travel and am away from my element, the attention is overwhelming. I often wear a wig and sunglasses just to get a little peace and quiet. Here in Central New Hampshire, the folks know me and have accepted me. They treat me as one of their own. I can go out and about, dressed like me and hardly ever be bothered. I go to the supermarket and no one lets me cut in front of them, even when I try. I can walk down the street and no one will bother me for my autograph. Even in this day of smartphones where everyone has a camera, no one bugs me for a photo. Even if I walk up to someone and tell them it is okay if they take my picture, they still don’t. Even if I persist and follow them down the street, reassuring them that it is perfectly fine, they still refuse. Even after the police are called to find out what all the excitement is about, they will still pretend they don’t know me. It’s just one of the benefits of being famous in this small paradise we live in. It is when the summer season arrives that all of this changes. The incident at the Chinese restaurant is just one, small example of the constant hounding I must endure. It is the price of fame. I can’t count the times I am spotted by a visitor while driving. They usually get right up to my bumper to get a better

look. Though it can be annoying, I do slow down so they can get a good glance and be on their way. Most of the time, they can’t contain themselves and they get into the other lane to pass so they can get even with my window. They are always letting me know, using one of their fingers, that they think I am number one. I must admit, I do appreciate it, but it does get tiresome. Of course, there are other incidents like the one at the Chinese restaurant. People often just stop and stare but usually don’t say anything. Sometimes they are shy, needlessly blinded by my fame, and say things like “You’re shoelace is untied” or “You left the lights on in your car.” I know these are feeble attempts to start a conversation with a famous person. Eventually summer ends and the gawkers are gone; home to tell their family and friends they saw me. I am able to again live a life of obvious anonymity. You locals don’t have to worry. I know you know who I am and I respect that you respect my privacy. Still, if you’d really like an autograph or a photo or even a handshake, I’d be happy to oblige. Really! I’m not kidding. Brendan will be at Cold Spring Farm in Alton, NH on Saturday, March 5th, for a fun evening of storytelling and music. Go to Cold Spring Farm’s Facebook page for tickets and more info. www.facebook.com/ coldspringfarmnh

Who’ll Keep Idaho Free, Safe and Great? Idaho is one of the top five reddest states in America -- for now. The majority of its citizens are rock-ribbed conservatives, pro-life, pro-law-and-order and devoutly Christian. Voters have chosen Republican presidential candidates every year there since 1952 (with the exception of 1964). But while the mainstream perception might be that Idaho is immune to the by Michelle Malkin kind of blue-wave transformations we’ve Syndicated Columnist suffered in California, Washington state and Colorado, on-the-ground reality is shockingly divergent. On a recent trip to Boise, I learned from outspoken GOP Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin that educators overseeing Idaho schoolchildren -- and cops sworn to serve and protect all citizens -- are promoting the very kind of Southern Poverty Law Center-infused, anti-white, anti-American propaganda that you’d expect in Democrat strongholds. Here’s the kicker: The toxic blue-state curriculum infiltrating Idaho is being funded by Woke Joe Biden’s U.S. Justice Department. “America has stood witness to years of violence, arson and vandalism committed by left-wing extremists and Marxist radicals who hate our country and despise our values,” McGeachin told me. “Despite all of what we’ve seen, Gov. Brad Little’s hand-picked State Board of Education is hosting a ‘2022 Idaho Threat Assessment Conference’ this summer. The conference flyer specifically calls out ‘right-wing extremists’ with no mention of left-wing extremists.” (FYI: Gov. Brad Little is the establishment Republican incumbent since 2019; seven out of the eight members of the state Education Board are appointed by the governor.) Sure enough, a copy of the registration flyer McGeachin showed me on the June 21-23 education conference at Boise State University is silent on liberal terrorism and violence. McGeachin reached out to the state Board of Education in a Jan. 31, 2022, letter demanding more answers about the program. Last week, the board denied that conservatives were being singled out this year, despite the conference flyer’s omission of any references to the dominant, violent metastasis of the left-wing antifa, Black Lives Matter, Abolish ICE, and Defund the Police movements. The state board also admitted that “$6,000 in National Institute of Justice federal grant funds” from the U.S. Justice Department will subsidize the indoctrination session of educators, mental health See MALKIN on 28

The Attack On Joe Rogan Is An Attack On Dissent Joe Rogan must be stopped. This is the consensus from all of the wisest and most compassionate voices in our society. According to the White House, Spotify should not merely by Ben Shapiro lead off Rogan’s COVSyndicated Columnist ID-19-centric episodes with a content warning; according to press secretary Jen Psaki, “our view is that it is a positive step, but that there is more that can be done.” According to CNN’s Brian Stelter, host of the ironically named “Reliable Sources”: “He is now apologizing. And we’re going to find out if that’s enough for Spotify, the company that has an exclusive distribution deal with him.” Has-been rocker Neil Young agrees; he, along with some other washed-up old hippie musicians, has taken his music off of Spotify to protest Rogan. What was Rogan’s great sin? To hear the media tell it, his great sin was COVID-19 “misinformation.” Now, this is a rather vague charge, given the fact that our public health authorities have informed us over the course of the past two years that lockdowns were effective, cloth masks worked, masking of children was necessary, vaccines prevented transmission, natural immunity was inferior to vaccine immunity, and the virus could not have originated with a Chinese lab leak -- all pieces of misinformation later reversed. Nonetheless, Rogan vowed to become more informed and to have on more diverse guests with regard to COVID-19 and vaccines. When Spotify didn’t deplatform Rogan over that charge, the rationale for his demanded deplatforming morphed: now Rogan was a racist for saying the N-word while quoting rap lyrics years ago. After

a Left-wing activist group promoted a compendium video of Rogan using such language, Rogan apologized again. But apologies aren’t the point. No one actually thinks Rogan is a racist. For the radical Left, you either become a tool in their arsenal or you become an object lesson. And Rogan has now become an object lesson. He has become an object lesson for two main reasons. First, Rogan has steadfastly refused to toe the party line with regard to President Joe Biden; ire broke out against Rogan in 2020 for the crime of noting that Biden appeared “mentally compromised” in the middle of an election that the media had declared a turning point in the future of democracy. Second, Rogan has hosted guests who do not simply repeat the nostrums of the Left on a wide variety of issues. That’s why the Left has demanded that Spotify remove old episodes of his show entirely: Alternative voices must not be heard, and Rogan has the unfortunate habit of talking to such voices for hours at a time and letting them say their piece. There are several takeaways from the Rogan dust-up. First, corporate overlords are absolutely gutless. CEO Daniel Ek believed that picking up the exclusive license to Rogan’s show would increase listenership and advertising dollars; he was clearly blindsided by the blowback, to the extent that he issued a mewling letter to the company’s woke interns begging their forgiveness for their hurt feelings. Second, the media are not interested in freedom of speech as a principle. They’re interested in freedom of speech for themselves and no one else. It’s been fascinating to watch the evolution of our treasured Journalismers (TM) from guardians of the First Amendment to attack dogs on behalf of Big Tech censorship of their perceived enemies. Third, apologizing to insincere radical Left alligators See SHAPIRO on 27

Groveling To China Companies tell us they support justice. “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything,” says former 49ers quarterback Colin by John Stossel Kaepernick in a Syndicated Columnist Nike ad. “Speak for the people who may not be able to be heard,” says the NBA. “Corporate PR hogwash,” says journalist Melissa Chen in my new video. “Hogwash,” she says, because the NBA clearly does not want its em-

ployees to criticize injustice -- if that injustice is in China. Daryl Morey, general manager of the Houston Rockets, tweeted, “Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong.” Good for him. China crushed freedom in Hong Kong. But China didn’t like hearing an NBA executive say that. Chinese TV stopped broadcasting Rockets games. The NBA then apparently told its players and front offices to shut up. Morey deleted his tweet and instead tweeted that he “did not intend to cause any offense.” The NBA itself also apologized to China, saying that they were “disap-

pointed” by Morey’s “inappropriate” tweet. Lebron James called Morey “misinformed.” James Harden said, “We love China.” “China is able to strong-arm these companies ... into actually acquiescing with its ideology,” complains Chen. That ideology is often grotesque. The U.S. and other countries accuse China of committing genocide against a mostly Muslim minority group, the Uyghurs. China imprisons them in “reeducation camps.” Leaked satellite footage shows blindfolded men, with their hands tied behind their backs, in what looks like a concentration

camp. “They are forced into slave labor,” says Chen. A few Uyghurs who escaped say they were tortured. But although the NBA runs ads that say, “Speak for the people who may not be able to be heard,” it clearly does not want its players, coaches or executives to say anything about Uyghur genocide. Chamath Palihapitiya, a part owner of the Golden State Warriors, was unusually honest when he said, “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs. ... We have a responsibility to take care of our own See STOSSEL on 29

Beijing’s “Belt and Road” Reaches Buenos Aires For nearly a decade now, China’s “Belt and Road” commercial infrastructure initiative (BRI) has been expanding globally. Usually, and most notably, by John J. Metzler countries which Syndicated Columnist sign up are poor or unduly dependent on Beijing’s largesse and bulging coffers. Places like Burma, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have willingly joined the dragon’s embrace. In Africa many states predictably signed on; Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. But when the BRI initiative reached Greece and linked up with the port of Piraeus, people began to focus. What’s the real mission of this global BRI? As the world waited apprehensively for Russian actions in Ukraine and

watched the Beijing Winter Olympics unfold, an unlikely Latin American political player visited both Moscow and Beijing. Argentina’s peripatetic socialist President Alberto Fernandez, landed in Moscow and lunched with Vladimir Putin to give thanks for Russia’s Sputnik vaccine distributions in Covid ravished Argentina. Offering pleasantries to Putin’s ears, Fernandez declared that Argentina has to “stop being dependent on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the United States.” Then he flew to the storied Middle Kingdom. President Fernandez visited Beijing seeking gifts and commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Buenos Aires. The Argentine president dutifully kowtowed to Chairman Xi Jinping and enrolled the Argentine Republic in China’s Belt and Road initiative. With a theatrical sweep of

the hand, Chairman Xi offered “billions and billions of dollars coming Argentina’s way, US$23.7 billion from BRI loans and investments alone plus the proposal to broaden the currency swap with Beijing (already around half of Central Bank reserves),” according to the respected Buenos Aires Times. Since 2013, BRI has emerged as a singular if controversial commercial influence buying plan of China’s communist regime, which through lavish development loans, promoting infrastructure projects, and “judgement free” political policies, yet often to the backdrop of staggering debt entrapment. Fernandez gushed on social media, “I had a cordial, friendly and fruitful meeting with Xi Jinping, President of China,” after which “we agreed to incorporate Argentina into the Belt and the Silk Road.” Beijing’s geo/commercial game plan

is stunningly simple; encourage Chinese imports, direct investment and debt. Otherwise known as the Silk Road, BRI looks to match resource rich countries and strategic ports to China’s interlocking system of commerce and promoting interdependence and often political alignment with China. Significantly in a joint statement, Argentina reiterated its support for the One China policy that forms the cornerstone of Beijing’s claim to democratic Taiwan. Equally, China voiced its support for Argentina’s claim to what the statement called “the Malvinas,” aka the sovereign British Falkland Islands. Later to the chagrin of London, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated Beijing’s position in no uncertain terms: “China firmly supports Argentina’s legitimate claim of sovereignty over the Malvinas See METZLER on 27

Impeach And Expel Under The U.S. Constitution by Hal Shurtleff Director, Camp Constitution Alton, NH

William Blount, the first federal official to be impeached, was a U.S. Senator from Tennessee who was one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution. It took place on July 7, 1797.

Recently, I was speaking to a group in Aroostook County, Maine, and the subject of impeachment came up. I said that each House can expel its members, but members of Congress cannot be impeached. My friend and fellow Patriot Jack McCarthy said that it was not true. So, let us investigate the subject. The United States Constitution mentions impeachment in several

places: Article 1, Section 2 last clause “…and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment”

thirds of the members present. will hold the trials for people the House of Representatives impeaches.”

Article 1, Section 3 Clause 6: “The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside. And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two

Article 1 Section 3, Clause 7: Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment

and Punishment, according to Law. And: Article 2, Section 4: The President, Vice President, and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. There is some misunderstanding of the term “impeachment.” It is akin to an indictment or a formal accusation See SHURTLEFF on 22

This series of Letters From God is an attempt to put the thoughts of God as revealed in the Scriptures as they relate to individuals and the nation of the USA.

north, would be joined in a confederacy with other nations, including Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer, and others. Persia is your modern-day Iran, Put is your modern-day Libya, Cush is modern day Sudan, Gomer is part of modern-day Turkey. Most of these nations are currently militant Islamic, with an express hatred for Israel. One of them most notably, Persia, had been a friend and an ally of Israel since the time of Cyrus the great Persian king in 538 BC. At that time, I led him to be benevolent to my people and he allowed them to return from captivity and rebuild their land. That relationship of friendship ended with the takeover of Iran by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979, and today Iran, ancient Persia, has vowed to destroy Israel while building an alliance with Russia. In my prophecy to Ezekiel, I declared that I was against Gog, chief Prince of Meshek and Tubal (Ezekiel 38:13). I expressed that my anger and wrath would be unleashed against this nation, in alliance with other nations, because they will “attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people,” my chosen people Israel(Ezekiel 38:11). I specifically prophesied that they would attack my people when, in Ezekiel, I said: “get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you and take command of them. Af-

ter many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that is recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations and now all of them live in safety. You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; You will be like a cloud covering the land.” (Ezekiel 38:7-9). I also specifically stated you will say “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people all of them living without walls and without gates and bars.” (Ezekiel 38:11). Yes, the nation to the uttermost north of Israel, Russia is recovering from their collapse in 1989 and growing in power once again. They are allying with the nations I predicted. Israel has returned to their land, that was “desolate” for over 2,000 years, from many nations, from which they were scattered after war. They, in modern times, reside in cities without walls and are seeking to live in safety. Everything I predicted is being fulfilled and will be fulfilled because, as I wrote in my last letter, I stand outside of time and I have seen these events even though for you they are yet future. It will not end well however, for Russia

Letters From God

QUESTION: Will Russia Play A Role In End Time Events? They most certainly will! I have prophetically revealed the events of the end times through many of the prophets who wrote at my request and are documented in my book, the Bible. When I asked the prophet Ezekiel to include in his chapters of the book, references to end time events, it included a clear reference to modern day Russia. Of course, it wasn’t called Russia at the time of the writing when Ezekiel penned my words, but it was clear that it was the land of the nation of modern-day Russia. In Ezekiel chapter 38:1-3, I described a nation that was then called Gog of the land of Magog and the chief Prince of Meshek and Tubal. Later in the book of Ezekiel, I identified this country as being from the uttermost north of my chosen people Israel (Ezekiel 38:15; 39:2). If you were to look at your modern-day maps, you would see that the major country north of Israel is Russia, and their capital city of Moscow is to the uttermost north of Jerusalem. I also revealed that this nation, to the uttermost

and those with whom they align. Later in Ezekiel 38:22 I predicted that “I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.” This judgment will be supernatural, by my hands, and will preserve Israel, who will survive until the final days of human history when my Son, Jesus, returns to the earth (Acts 1:11). How foolish for any nation or individual to think they can live without me and in opposition to me. May I encourage you to take my advice given in Psalm 2 to kings of the earth who “take their stand…against the Lord (Me) and against his Anointed one” (Jesus, my son & your Savior).” “Serve the Lord (Me) with fear…Kiss (Embrace) the son, (Jesus) lest he be angry, and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” (Psalm 2:2,11-12) I love you, God These letters are written by a New Hampshire pastor.

You’ve heard from me. Here’s what others have to say: Cindy from Keene wrote to say a large flock of cedar waxwings showed up and dined on crabapples until the tree was bare, which took a few weeks. Bluebirds joined the fruit party on occasion too. She also reported a red-tailed hawk making a surprise attack on a mourning dove flock. The hawk came up empty. Cindy also reports that “juncos are many more in number than last year, and nuthatches are less frequent.” A flock of more than 50 pine siskins paid a visit recently to Jay

He noted his first red-breasted nuthatch of the winter as well. Jay also wrote that he had grabbed some local Ilex berries to decorate for the holidays and a small group of bluebirds visited and ate the red treats. The Ilex berries in the neighborhood, he said, are now gone, thanks to a large flock of robins. John reported seeing a few bluebirds at his yard in Walpole. Kim in Campton wrote that she’s still awaiting her first bluebirds, but she has played host to birds such as red-breasted nuthatches, juncos, tufted titmice, downy and hairy woodpeckers, assorted sparrows and chickadees. She

also shared that a few pine siskins visited during a recent snowfall. When she looked out a few hours later, “every feeder was occupied. Needless to say by noontime there wasn’t a seed in sight.” Pat from Sandwich said she and her husband had an interesting feeder sighting as two snow buntings showed up to eat some seeds. It was a first for their feeders. Pine siskins also made an appearance a few days later. I usually have to visit the coastal beaches to see snow buntings. That’s a great yard bird to add to the list. Molly, also of the Lakes Region, has had trouble attracting birds to her feeder this

winter as a territorial northern mockingbird chases away any visitors before they can land and enjoy a few seeds. “As soon as a bird (any type) appears on the feeders, this bird shoots out of nowhere and nose-dives them.” Patti from Westmoreland, on the other hand, says her two feeders and two suet baskets are “constantly busy these days with a host of “regulars,” which includes a large flock of juncos.” Patti added that a flock of blue jays has recently started visiting regularly after being scarce earlier this winter. She observed a curious behavior from the jays: “I have heard jays will work together See BOSAK on 27

Broadcast Teams And Sports Soundtracks anced than Aikman’s, even though Tony is not a “Hall-of-Famer.” But my favorite duo is the one that just worked the Super Bowl—NBC’s Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth. Michaels has been doing national telecasts since covering MLB for ABC during the 1970s. He perhaps came up with sports’ most famous broadcast utterance in 1980 when the Americans beat the Soviet Olympic ice hockey team at Lake Placid. “Do you believe in miracles? YES!” But Collinsworth is the best. Why? BeSee MOFFETT on 26

by Mike Moffett Contributing Writer

Sportscasters emanate tones, expressions, descriptions and outbursts that create the soundtracks of our sports lives. Consider Red Sox radio announcer Joe Castiglione. He’s been describing Boston baseball action since 1983, when he first partnered in the broadcast booth with the late, great Ken Coleman. Take a walk on Hampton Beach on a sunny summer weekend day and you’ll hear Joe C’s voice from countless portable radios along with crashing surf, the squawking seagulls, and laughing children. The soundtracks of our sports lives. For basketball oldtimers there was the raspy voice of Celtics announcer Johnny Most, a true radio legend. Granite State hockey fans surely have some of Ken Cail’s Manchester Monarch playby-play calls permanently downloaded in their personal sports soundtracks. And Gil Santos, the late radio voice of the New England Patriots, traveled with us up and down the pro gridiron road— with all its football highs and lows. “It’s good! It’s good. It’s good! ADAM VINITIARI from 48 yards!” Jim Nantz is certainly “the voice of the Masters.” Augusta Na-

NBC Broadcaster Chris Collinsworth tional wouldn’t be the same without his dulcet tones. With NFL announcers visiting our living rooms every autumn Sunday, I thought about who I most appreciated spending time during so many telecasts. The late John Madden and the late Pat Summerall were certainly a great team. I can hear them now when I close my eyes and think back. Some will remember Howard Cosell, whose distinctive voice and delivery became a hallmark of Monday Night Football. Interestingly, several polls of football fans listed Cosell simultaneously as both the most favored and least favored sportscaster.

All of which brings us to the network “A” teams for NFL telecasts on FOX, CBS, and NBC. I love the FOX duo of Joe Buck and “the Hall-of-Famer, Troy Aikman.” Buck is not everyone’s cup of tea, and yes, he is where is because of his dad, the late sportscaster Jack Buck, but his occasional honest irreverence provides some sparkle. My third favorite duo. My second favorite duo belongs to CBS— the aforementioned Nantz and Tony Romo, who like Aikman is a former Dallas Cowboy quarterback. Nantz is a bit easier on the ears than Buck, and Romo’s color commentary is deeper and more nu-

THE SIMPLE FEAST The New England Saturday Night Special - Brown Bread on Saturday night. Perhaps it was because after a long day of errands and projects, beans on brown bread was a quick meal. With the day waning, chores nearly done, you need only open two cans, dirty two pots (one for beans and one for dogs) and quickly heat the brown bread. Saturday night was also bath night. It was almost regimented in our house; eat supper, clear the dishes, get tossed into the tub, play for a few minutes, scrub and rinse, get inspected by Mom for anything left behind See GIBSON on 14

by Eric N Gibson Contributing Writer

Nothing says New England like Brown Bread. Add a plate of beans and a Hot Dog or two, and well, that’s not just a Home Run, it’s a Grand Slam! A real Saturday Night Special in the Yankee tradition. Native New Englanders know the “Saturday Night Special” menu was not about flash it was about dash. Saturday was all about shopping and errands in the AM and yard work or projects in the afternoon. By Saturday night Mom was exhausted so dinner was a slap together meal that was expedient and frugal, yet filling. A plate of beans, a couple hot dogs, and maybe some brown bread or toasted hot dog rolls for a treat. Dad got paid every other Friday. How did we know? Because any Saturday night where we had hot dog rolls or that unmistakable round dark brown loaf of bread from a can, we knew dad got paid that Friday. In the off week there was sliced whole wheat and margarine; small compensation when compared with

steaming hot molasses infused raisin studded brown bread. Mmmmmm!!!! And not just any brown bread, it had to be B&M Brown Bread. I can remember, even when I was barely big enough to look out the car window, somewhere outside of Portland, if the wind was just right and the vents of the car were open, you would get that unmistakable whiff of baked beans and brown bread. For just a few short scrumptious miles, that lofty scent of molasses laced with spices perfumed the air as that ribbon of asphalt took you on a journey past one of the most memorable landmarks on the trail to Down East.

According to internet lore, the B&M website, and recently published news articles, Burnham and Morrill Co. (B&M) ceased production at their Portland facility this past year (2021). It began as a canning facility established in Portland’s Casco Bay area in 1867. Up to the 1920´s they concerned themselves with mostly the canning of meats, vegetables, and some seafood. Somewhere around 1927 they decided to offset costs and experimented with cooked canned brick oven beans. Brown bread (the subject of this essay) followed shortly after. As an aside, I have often wondered why anyone in their right mind would eat beans

GIBSON from 14 a proper oven back in the day. Thus proving that, with a bit of Yankee ingenuity, colonials could have their bread without going to the baker. The recipe I offer for brown bread does not require a direct steam bath, although I will often place a pan of water in the oven to offer some moisture to the heat. The results will yield two loaves. For the purist, leave out the raisins. I prefer a raisin studded brown bread while most of my family does not. The loaf will be fairly dense but not heavy, which I know makes no sense, until you experience for yourself the texture. The loaf bakes off to a moist, dark

milk chocolate brown hue with an aroma that hints back to days when homes were filled with the scent of fresh baked breads and cookies. No air freshener could ever hold a candle to the aroma of baked nutmeg, molasses, and all spice artfully blended together to create such a bouquet. Served with a simple menu of baked beans and hot dogs or ham, homemade brown bread is the perfect side to the Saturday Night Special. I hope you too enjoy this Simple Feast… and until next time, ¨Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen!¨

Tips For A Better Wedding Registry For some couples, the idea of registering for wedding gifts is an exciting way to start planning for the home they’ll be sharing as newlyweds. For others, the registry is just one more chore to check off the wedding to-do list. Regardless of where

registry is a good idea, especially for couples who will be setting up a home together for the first time. Keep these tips and etiquette guidelines in mind to get the most out of your registry. Take inventory of what you have and what you need. For couples who’ve lived alone or together, the registry may be a way to fill in gaps for necessities neither of you already have. It’s also a good way to begin upgrading the less expensive kitchen items and furnishings you had as college students or singles. Make a list of your needs and wants so you don’t forget any

essentials. If you’re still in doubt, request a checklist from the store where you’ll be registering so you can do some planning. Register for things at a wide range of price points. The whole purpose of a registry is to make it easy for your guests to get you things you’ll like and need. Part of making it easy is recognizing your guests have diverse financial situations. While it’s customary to gift the bride and groom, not everyone can afford an extravagant gift, especially if they’ve spent money on travel and attire to attend. While it’s a good idea to offer modest options, don’t shy away from bigger ticket items that a small group might chip in on together. Keep access in mind when you choose where to register. Avoid stores that are local or regional if you have many guests who live out of the area. Also avoid the temptation to choose online only options, as some guests will preSee REGISTRY on 19

eling through the store, debating options and making your selections could take longer than expected. Also be sure to ask how you can add to or edit your registry after your initial visit. Get your partner involved. There are bound

to be some parts of the registry your partner may not care about, but asking for input and making decisions together lets you both share in the excitement. Focus on things you’ll each find useful as you settle into

your new home. For example, the person who will be responsible for taking out the trash should get to pick the new kitchen trash can. Find more inspiration for planning your way to wedded bliss at eLivingtoday.com.

Find Your Wedding Bliss This Fall (NewsUSA) – Caterers, event halls and wedding planners are gearing up for fall wedding season, one of the busiest times of the year for hopeful couples. Fall guarantees exquisite photo opportunities without the heat of summer — and the wealth of in-season decorations are beautiful and affordable. In fact, September and October are the most popular and third most popular months for weddings, respectively. If you’re planning a fall wedding this sea-

FALL from 20 must. Offer hot cocoa and homey baskets of soft blankets or cozy shawls. Set up fire pits or outdoor heating stations where guests can shake of the chill. 2. Location, location, location. Select a locale that is known for its fall scenery. 3. Incorporate fall colors into the wedding party wardrobe. Chocolate brown compliments a variety of fall color schemes, and it’s flattering for most women. But if brown doesn’t suit the plans, burgundy is another great fall shade that makes the bridal white pop. 4. Select in-season flowers and decorations. Unless the bride has her heart set on lily of the valley or orchids, there are beautiful in-season flowers to choose from. Dahlias, chrysanthemums, asters, roses, zinnias and

Article 1, Section 5: Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member. The Senate never tried the impeachment case against Blount because he had already been expelled. A resolution introduced in the Senate saying that Blount was a civil officer and subject to impeachment was defeated by a 14-11 vote. Since then, not one member of Congress has been impeached but five members of the House and 15 Senators have been expelled. Seventeen of them were expelled for supporting the Confederacy, and only two since the Civil War: Mike Myers of Pennsylvania and Jim Traficant of Ohio. Myers was recently indicted

Looking up the Wildcat Valley our eyes were filled with the view of Carter’s Notch Gap formed by the big White Mountains peaks Wildcat and Carter Dome. After we made our way back to the Touring Center we decided to ski around the Wentworth Resort Trail then across the resort’s famous red covered bridge and do a loop over the Troll Trail. On the lower section of the Troll Trail a Jackson Ski Instructor was coaching four kindergarteners. The children happened to be all dressed in different bright colors and looked like a line of Skittles going up the hill. As we skied by them we could hear

Jackson’s has over 50 trails on 150 kilometers and a great variety of terrain and scenic vistas to see and explore. Groomed for classic and skate techniques, sometimes it is hard to decide where to go. We were tempted to ski along the Ellis River but it was such a nice day we opted to search for the grand mountain vistas. After the Olympics are over I will continue to watch our USA skiers compete on the World Cup and cheer for their success. I hope you will too. Have fun.

SMITH from 3 to trees and other vegetation by their eating habits (vegetarians). When I am in the woods and come upon a scattering of green boughs on the ground under a hemlock tree, I suspect it to likely be the work of a hedgehog. The animals are fond of salt and often chew on the handles of axes or other implements that have salt on them from the sweat of the people who have used them. When a dog and a porcupine meet, you can be sure, if the dog gets too close, and it probably will, it will be the recipient of a mouth full of quills. Removing those quills can be a painful (for the dog) and time-consuming process (for the dog and its owner). I have not found porcupines to be aggressive, but they do try to defend themselves and they do have the tools to do that with a body covered with quills. They don’t throw their quills, but have a movable tail which can insert them. A human, however, armed with a big stick or a firearm, can easily protect himself from a riled up porky. I remember the cute little baby porcupine I found in the woods

during my childhood years and my wish that I somehow could take it home as a pet. There was a particular area where I had seen the prickly animals on the limbs of big oak trees, but, if I recall correctly, this little one was roaming on the ground – cute, like most babies are. However, I knew enough not to try to pick it up. As a teenager I enrolled in a correspondence course on Taxidermy from the Northwestern School of Taxidermy. It was a course I didn’t finish, but along the way I decided that I would try to mount a porcupine. The popular term in that day was to “stuff” an animal, bird, or fish, etc., to preserve it but the proper term, I learned, was to mount the object of the project. Before I could mount the porcupine I had shot, I had to skin it. How do you skin a porcupine? Very carefully! The fact is, though I started the procedure and maybe had the creature half removed of its skin without injury to me, I gave up on the project, probably mainly because it was consuming my time. In the woods that I take my walks in durSee SMITH on 25

Porcupine in a tree. Porcupines were considered pests because the damage they do to trees and other vegetation by their eating habits (vegetarians). SMITH from 24 ing the present era I don’t see many hedgehogs, and bounties on them are an offer of years gone by. I’m told that the introduction of fisher cats to the state and the fact that the American hedgehog (porcupine) is on their menu as edible food keeps the porcupine population in check. There was a time when the State of New Hampshire offered bounties to those who killed wolves, but the last wolf to be killed in New Hampshire is reported to have been in 1887. In 1904 bounties were paid to those who killed bears in New Hampshire. Fifty-five bear were killed at a cost to the state of $5 each, amounting to a total of $275. Eleven of the bears were shot in Thornton. At different times the state has paid bounties for other creatures, including hawks and crows. A government report indicated that between the years 1874 and 1895 a total of $56,728 was paid in bounties for the killing of certain animals and birds in the Granite State.

I think it was in the year 1989 when I engaged in my own harvest of hedgehogs. I was living with my family in a rented house in Maine that had an attached barn with an infestation of the hedgehogs. The damage they were doing to the barn and the danger they might be to our dog and children warranted a harvest season. The 1905 New Hampshire legislature had other business to attend to besides the contested hedgehog bill. A bill submitted by the

agriculture committee and labeled “ought to pass” was a dog bill which was described by

the Ashland Citizen as “a bone of contention.” The bill was introduced by Mr. Eastman of Andover and considered by the newspaper writer to be good for the farmer, but hard on the dog. The proposed bill stated “no dog shall be allowed to run at large in any pasture or enclosure not owned or controlled by the owner of the dog, where sheep or other domestic animals are kept, unless accompanied by the owner of said dog or by some person authorised ..” (their spelling). The penalty for breaking the law was a five dollar fine or destroying the dog. The bill was sent back to the committee “...to save what good there was in it.”

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, February 17, 2022 — MAILBOAT from 2 few criminal rioters that were arrested. Similarly, few Democrat politicians care about the harm done to our citizens by the millions of illegal aliens flooding through President Biden’s open border. Democrat politicians don’t expect illegal aliens to harm them or their families. Illegal aliens won’t move into the neighborhoods where Democrat politicians live. Illegal

aliens won’t: degrade their children’s schools, flood their hospitals, take their jobs, or increase the amount of drugs, gangs, violence, and crime in their neighborhoods. It’s the residents of the poor neighborhoods where most illegal aliens settle that suffer and have to worry about their own and their children’s lives. Biden’s weakness and incompetence has encouraged Putin to threaten the Ukraine.

Now Biden is sending American soldiers to Europe, essentially to protect the Ukraine’s border. (Do you want to send your child to go, fight, and maybe die for the Ukraine and Biden’s blunders?) Unfortunately Democrat politicians won’t protect the US-Mexico border, the border which matters to the prosperity, health, and safety of the American people. The January 6 riots

and Putin’s threats to the Ukraine reveal that Washington Democrats do actually care about some lives and property, essentially just their own. Unfortunately for the American people, Democrat politicians just don’t care about our lives, the lives of our family members, or the lives of most other Americans.

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, February 17, 2022 — METZLER from 7 Islands.” Why is this so important? Already 18 other Latin American countries are in Beijing’s BRI. Argentina is a resource rich and bountiful land graced by natural beauty but sadly saddled by the enduing socialist legacy of Peronism which Fernandez proudly embraces. Argentina has amazing food production and raw materials which China views with envy. Argentina’s enduring cult of Peronism dating from the 1950’s remains a toxic mix of political populism, profligate government spending, and high octane nationalism, still maintaining an emotional grasp on at least half the population. Nonetheless Argentina’s chronic economic mismanagement, inflation and currency free fall make the country ripe for Beijing’s blandishments. When we visited Argentina a few short years ago, there were 36 Pesos to one US$ Dollar; now there are 106 to 1$! The People’s Republic of China already operates a huge satellite tracking and telemetry complex in Argentina’s southern Patagonia region. The station is on

a direct line with Washington DC and it’s widely believed to be used for eavesdropping on American communications. The facility was set up during the presidency of leftist leader Christina Kirchner Fernandez (no relation to the current president) and was approved by a deeply divided Congress in 2015. On a more earthly matter, China is intent on providing the Argentine Air Force with modern JF-17 jets to replace its phased out French Mirages. The Argentine Defense Ministry has budgeted nearly $650 million for new fighter jets and China wants to do the deal. At the same time Russia is recommending its supersonic multirole Mig-35 aircraft. American ambivalence towards Latin America for over a decade is reaping dangerous unintended consequences as China fills the gap. Before leaving China, Fernández told Xi that had he been an Argentine citizen, he “would be a Peronist.” Perhaps so… John J. — THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, February 17, 2022 —

MALKIN from 6 professionals and, yes, law enforcement officers -- including the Boise Police Departm ent, which is cosponsoring the event. Remember: Biden has waged war and lawfare against conservatives from day one of his administration. During the Obama-Biden years, its Department of Homeland Security manufactured a panic over “right-wing extremism” as peaceful grassroots Tea Party activism had started spreading across the nation. That seminal 2009 report drew heavily on anti-conservative smears generated by the panic-profiteering Southern Poverty Law Center (the very same character assassination outfit working with the likes of Airbnb

to ban peaceful, lawabiding America First citizens like me and my family). Last summer, weaponizing the Jan. 6 Capitol rally, Biden and the DOJ unveiled a new campaign to crack down harder on “antigovernment” conservatives and treat them as domestic terrorists worse than jihadists or serial killers. Last October, you’ll recall, as the parental revolt against critical race theory gained steam and citizens exercised their First Amendment rights to protest at school boards, vengeful U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced he was enlisting the FBI and U.S. attorneys nationwide to launch another chilling initiative to tar anti-critical race theory activists as violence-

prone domestic threats. (Don’t forget: Garland’s son-in-law, who runs an educational survey company cataloguing kids’ attitudes about race, is a critical race theory profiteer whose company recently reaped $76 million in investments.) Knowing this historical and political context, it’s rather difficult to take Little’s Idaho state board seriously when it now claims it will meaningfully address the real extremists who’ve burned down cities, torn down statues, and doxxed investigative journalists and ICE agents in the name of tolerance and diversity. In the wake of McGeachin’s protest, I learned that the “right-wing extremism” seminar has now been stealthily re-titled: “Lethal Partisanship: Po-

litical Extremism and Violence.” But lecturer Philip Saragoza’s primary professional focus is, you guessed it, right-wing Christians, gun-owners, anti-COVID activists and immigration restrictionists. “The reason this kind of conference can take place even in a deep red state like Idaho,” McGeachin told me, “is because our current governor has compromised our conservative principles and allowed the radical left to make inroads.” Little -- an ardent supporter of open-borders refugee resettlement that is demographically and electorally transforming Idaho -- is deep in Big Business’ hip pocket. McGeachin, a longtime populist activist, former state legislator and smallbusinesswoman, leads

a crowded field challenging Little ahead of the May gubernatorial primary. She’s got guts. McGeachin has taken unapologetic action against Little and state GOP elites repeatedly for their routine capitulation on education policy, medical freedom, and law and order. She convened a task force against critical race theory while others sat on their hands. She joined citizens burning masks last spring while Little went AWOL and issued executive orders against mask and vaccine mandates while he traveled outof-state. She is now taking on homeless camps manned by leftist professional agitators who plague the capitol grounds while the governor diddles around.

Janice McGeachin is the kind of defiant GOP leader we need and I wholeheartedly endorse (along with Donald Trump). Empty-suit surrenderists won’t keep Idaho and America free, safe and great. Bold, uncontrolled and unafraid fighters on the frontlines will. Michelle Malkin’s email address is MichelleMalkinInvestigates@ protonmail.com. — THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, February 17, 2022 — STOSSEL from 7 backyard first.” I took his comment to Chen. “Companies like Apple, Nike and CocaCola have part of their supply chain sourced from this region,” she responds. “In these areas, Uyghurs are forced to participate in slave labor.” Hollywood doesn’t care either. The movie “Mulan” was filmed in the same region where Uyghurs are tortured. In the credits, Disney gave “special thanks” to government depart-

ments in Xinjiang, where the abuse occurs. “Fast and Furious 9” actor John Cena, promoting his movie to people in Taiwan, said, “Taiwan is the first country that can watch F9.” What was wrong with that? “He had the audacity to allude to the fact that Taiwan was a country,” says Chen, “rather than a territory owned by China.” I don’t know what China said to Cena or Universal Pictures,

but soon Cena was on Chinese social media, groveling to China, saying “sorry” over and over. “I have made a mistake. ... I really love and respect the Chinese people. ... I made a mistake,” he pleaded. Chen calls that pathetic. “I think the Chinese government actually takes a lot of pleasure knowing that they can actually strong-arm individuals and companies into capitulation to its own political ideology.” Only one NBA player is principled enough to

point out the NBA’s hypocrisy: Boston Celtic Enes Kanter Freedom. He criticizes players who don’t speak up because they fear losing Chinese business deals. “Human rights and basic rights is way more important than any deal you can offer,” he says. He loses lucrative shoe contracts because he sometimes displays messages on his shoes, like “Free Tibet” and “Stand With Taiwan.” He denounces Chinese Uyghur oppression.

So China won’t broadcast Celtics games. But Freedom keeps speaking up, calling out hypocrites like Nike, which promotes social justice causes in the United States but is largely silent about human rights violations in China. The press rarely points out the hypocrisy, says Chen, because “this exposes the woke edifice of the NBA. Of course, companies exist to make money. Should we expect them to turn their back on the Chinese market?

“Absolutely,” says Chen. “The least we can do is to take stock of their cowardice and recognize that what they’re participating in is bald-faced hypocrisy.” John Stossel is creator of Stossel TV and author of “Give Me a Break: How I Exposed Hucksters, Cheats, and Scam Artists and Became the Scourge of the Liberal Media.” For other Creators Syndicate writers and cartoonists, visit www. creators.com.
