The white rings indicate the distance between the site and surrounding urban contact. In the first figure, two main avenues pass by on both side of the site. This is how people driving to the brewery.

The local railway is also not far from our brewery. The closest railway station is less than 200ft. This could be another main transportation to the brewery.

There are some places that already provide sufficient visitors. The local residential and Findlay Market are close enough for walking.

+ Concept Diagram In the traditional brewery, the production parts and bar are separated, they are basically two isolated systems, like from and back of the house. In the visualized brewery, the two parts are completely mixed. As people move along, they can see the entire production process and all kinds of pipes which have fresh bear inside.

+ Features Since the brewery facilities are distributed in several places in the brewery, the equipments are connected by pipes. These equipments makes the building, especially the interior very exciting. When people enjoying the food or drinks, the freshing beer is brewing beside them.

+ Plan Stategies

There are three organization strategies in plan.

+ Side

The first one is putting the production facilities on one side and other programs on the other side.

+ Perimeter

The second is that putting the production at the perimeter and other programs in the center.

+ Exterior

+ Roof Screen

And the last strategy is leaving the equipments exterior so that they are exposed to the outside and visible from exterior.

+ Cubism In Design

+ Plan Composition

The cubism in painting means demonstrating or interpreting a 3D object into a 2D drawing by showing different elevations, plans, even sections. This is a really basic idea about cubism, but we can still borrow it in design. I started with drawings, getting various views of the precedent and reorganize it.

+ Cubism Concept Museum This project is more like a figure rather than a real design. The one of the most successful museums, the CAM by Zaha, is used as my precedent object. And by analysis its plan, section and elevation, a prototype plan composition was be produced. This is a new study of design process. 14 | WEIZHEN

+ Interior Design

+ 3D Print Model

The interior of the cubism museum still remain the idea of cubism printing. However, it is 1/64 scale 3D print model, the material is power and binder. more like a inversed process. In interior design, I need translate the 2D drawing into a 3D space.

Master Plan of Art District The Ohio State University is relocating the school of theater to the east side of campus. Along with the existing of Art School, Music School, Mershon auditorium and Wexner Center, the new group of buildings will be defined as the OSU Art’s District.

My design groups the different schools based on the activities. After grouping them, the Wexner Center and the Mershon becomes the first cluster. Next comes the Art School which is more quiet. And the last one is the School of Music and School of Theater, which are both about performing art. And that is the building I will keep working on.

Three master plan strategies

+ Central Square

+ University Gateway

+ The Parade

As the main idea of the art district master plan, the central square plays a significant role in district. People gather here and then send to the perimeter buildings. This is a free walking pedestrian square.

The district is also at the edge of the campus. Therefore, I use the idea of an urban gateway. The continuous facade on high st with a little break at art district, it could naturally read as an gate on high street.

With the idea of central square and gateway, we need a connection to link the two key places, which is the parade. Trees and fountains more emphasis the movement and direction.

+ Issue Introduction: TOO MANY THEATER?

+ Offices & Classrooms

The most difficult part in this project is the complexity of the programmatic pieces and the variety of the program size, especially there are four big boxy theaters. Also, as the boundary of campus, the building has to have the capacity of urban audience circulation as well as the student circulation. Four big theaters make the general figure very clunky, they also require lots of supporting spaces.

Offices and classrooms are on the 3rd floor. The building is separated into two parts, which one is for the music school and other is for theater school.

+ Concept To reserve the limited green space in downtown of London and transport people from urban side to the river side. My design is recreating a elevated walking path, like Highline in NYC, through the building.

+ Circulations

+ Vertical Circulation + People's Circulation + Book's Circulation

+ Bridge: FOR PEOPLE & KNOWLEDGE This library is designed as two parts, connected by bridge. It is the third individual part, which allows people walk through the building without get into the library. Importantly, it is not just for people, but also for knowledge. Books transported between the two buildings from book box to the main rooms. The bridge, carries people and knowledge.

+ Spatial Model Study This is a exercise of the simple form manipulation ability. Starting from the most simple shapes, we can make only one or two manipulation. This is the beginning of our exploration of space in three-dimensional forms. All the small models are hand made physical model. With a set of simple model, the next step is combine the ideas and main movement into one larger model, which is the physical mode on top.

+ 2D To 3D Hand Drawing This exercise is interpretation of a 2D photo into a 3D form. Also, it requires the ability of excellent hand drawing. Two boxers in photo are layered as the first step. Then, the points of layering drawing connect according to the position of boxers. In the final drawing, different line weights and dash line demonstrate the position relationship.

30 | WEIZHEN

PORTFOLIO

+ Drawing And Remodel In this exercise, we were asked to choose one object from the desk, made two types of drawings, which were mesh and nurb drawing, and three view for each type of drawing. This is a great challenge of modeling, also for drawing skills. Properly choose the line weight and stroke is the key of a successful drawing. Then,it is the remodeling process. Two methods, one is contouring the model in vertical and horizontal direction and reassemble the slides. The second method is using the CNC melting and the material is foam block.
