O bituary

Obituary was born April 24, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia into a family Gene Martin, of 12 to Anthony and Olena Martin. As the 10th child born, he was Rev. EuGene Martin, was educated born April 24, 1939 in Elementary Fulton County at Grady Memorial at William J. Scott and Turner High School. Hospital, Anthony @ Olena At the earlyto agethe of late 12, he found Jesus Christ asMartin his Lord and Saviour at an old fashioned altar at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta. At 15, he was filled with the Holy Spirit. Soon after joining the church Gene began singing with the junior choir. It was there he fell in love with Gospel singing and determined in his heart to make it his life's ministry. He became a member Aarons Tabernacle with Pastors Dewitt and Walter Aaron. As the years passed, Gene began singing with Gospel groups around Atlanta, occasionally taking out of town trips to conventions and other church meetings. In doing this, Gene knew what the Lord had for him and he was preparing himself for a greater ministry in the Lord's service. In 1960, at the age 21, the A. A. Allen Miracle Restoration Revival Crusade came to Atlanta under the “Big White Tent”. It was there night after night they heard one voice that was above A-L-L the rest. During one of the services, the “sound man” slipped A. A. Allen a note asking: “Do you hear this voice?” There is somebody down here and I can hear him above the thousand other voices. There’s a man here with a VOICE and they began to search for that voice. Gene was always sitting behind the sound and the power of God would hit him and he would get out front and cut a ditch with his dance across the tent. Somebody told them that was GENE MARTIN! Thereafter, he was afforded the opportunity to sing in the afternoon services and after hearing him, they kept him!!! Soon Gene's unusual style of presenting the Gospel in song spread throughout Pentecostal circles. His first appearance with the Allen party in Chicago, Illinois, won him a place in the heart of thousands. That success spread his fame throughout the country. He would go on to work with Don Stewart, he also worked with the world famous Malaco gospel music label. Gene Martin has been featured on many of the largest Pentecostal platforms of the country, and was a featured artist in Carlton Pearson’s Live at Azusa recordings. He later joined Church of Atlanta Lighthouse under the leadership of Pastor Bishop Michael Spires, until his transition. Gene Martin began having Summer Camp Meetings in Greensboro NC and Winter Camp Meetings in Atlanta, and later he resolved to have both meetings in his hometown “Atlanta Georgia”. People came from around the world to attend the Camp Meeting services and he was the first to introduce praising the old year out and the New Year in during the “Watch Night Services”.
